Alpha Tristen
Holding Fee to my chest tightly, I felt Lilly’s thin little arms slide between us around her body. I always liked and cared for Lilly, she was part of my pack. She was Luke’s mate, a loyal wolf, but right now my every instinct was telling me to push her away, to stop her from coming between Fee and I. There were too many people right now getting between us, too many people that had connections with my mate that I did not want and or understand. Yesterday she was a stranger, unknown to everyone, a rogue, a mystery. Now she was being coveted, her existence known by many as her past was coming into light. I almost preferred it remain in shadows.
Mine, she was mine. Surrounding her with as much of my body as possible, I tried to block her from the few of others. Looking around, my gaze caught back on Erica, who had her eyes widen with outrage as she pointed with a jerky finger of disrespect at my Fee. Before I even thought about my reaction, I could feel my wolf taking over, he was seething with anger within me, roaring out.
“Fiona is my blood, she is my niece and from what I understand, Luna of this pack. You owe her your respect! Bow!” Larix’s voice ripped through the air directed at Erica. My heart almost stopped, his niece, his blood. If that was the case it would make sense that Lilly knew her as well. Fee was from their pack, their family. That pack was decimated years ago though, that was back when Lilly was first found out in the snow coming to live here with us. Where had Fee been for all these years. Thinking of her lost and alone my chest constricted.
Watching the scene unfold in front of me, I had never had or witnessed Larix being on my side of an argument. Everything with him was a fight, we never saw eye to eye. Even now as he commanded Erica to bow to Fee something was not right, something else was at play, I was sure of it. Larix even having his so called flesh and blood in front of him, he had hesitated. There was no lie in Erica’s voice when she stated Larix was sent to dispose of Fee and that the council had already decided her to be the next Luna of my pack. He had colluded against my Flicka, he was an enemy.
In what right mind would any council recommend that a chosen mate be taken by an Alpha over a Moon Goddess match, a complete soul bonded mate. The council was also in no way uninformed, I had no doubt in my mind they knew the exact outcome and progression of the challenge, our marking and mating. What exactly did Erica mean when she said that Larix was going to get rid of Fee. Everyway there is to have our bond completely removed would entail Fee’s death and with it, possibly my own. Her uncle or not, Larix was a problem and the council was going to take things further then I had anticipated. I had thought after all that had happened, and all that we had now done was enough to secure our bond and her place by my side. She had been introduced to the pack and had fought to gain their respect, she had been accepted.
The scene still unfolding in front of me, I glared at Luke mind linking him to detach his mate from my own. Swiftly obeying he rushed forward bringing Lilly to his chest. My eyes veering back to Erica who was lowering, she was slowly breaking underneath the mental pressure from Larix. Finally falling to her knees she still kept her head up as she refused to bow, refused to show respect and demonstrate humiliation. I had always thought of her as a warrior, a strong female who was always grasping for power. Now I could not help but see her as what she was, a spoilt, selfish, power hungry she wolf with the councils backing.
Looking down upon my little Flicka I tried to reign in my emotions, channelling everything into her. Her little eyes rising to meet my own, a smile pulled at her lips causing my heart to jump in my chest. She was innocent, so innocent and naïve, it was showing heavily as I felt her heart swell with happiness. She was trusting, too trusting. I needed to protect my mate. Watching her move slightly in my arms resigning herself into my body, my chest clenched. I could feel her physical fatigue as she lightly panted, her breath fanning my arm. In her human state, she was just so fragile, so weak, so vulnerable. Just the thought of her being hurt boiled the blood pulsing through my veins.
“Flicka,” whispering into Fee’s ear I lifted her in my arms. Feeling the unrest in her heart, “it is okay Flicka. We are just going inside to my office so you can have a rest, the others will follow.” How I wished they would not, but I could already feel Larix and Lilly’s eyes. Trailing behind us in a small group, I knew this was going to ruin my night. I had plans, plans with my mate. My c**k was already stirring in my pants at just the thought of my plans. Irritation getting the best of me I choked down a growl while keeping a hold on my Flicka.
Pushing the doors to my office open, I walked to one of the couches sitting with Fee in my lap. I could see her trying so hard to sit upright and awake as her eyelids pulled downward, her weight sinking deliciously into my own. Larix, Adam, Luke and Lilly filtering in behind us I inwardly groaned. I had only just found her, my mate, my world. I had not even had her within my grasp for a few days, yet now I had to share her and our time together.
