AVA As I was about to reply, a call came in and I reached for it. I checked the caller ID, it was a friend of mine, Stella. Why was she calling? I thought, my mind reeling with different possibilities. I picked the call, placing the phone on my ears. The first sound I heard was her soft sobs and my ears stood at alert. All was not well. Her husband was at it again!!! "I'm sorry but something really urgent came up!!" I said to him, my tone screaming urgency. He nodded, handing me his card. "You can just call me when you've thought about it." He said and I nodded, before leaving. I rode straight to Stella's apartment and I had to secretly go through her room's window to get in. I had to be noiseless so as to avoid getting caught by security. I met her crouched at a corner, tears shimmering down her face in torrents. I ran straight to her, enveloping her in a tight, soothing hug. "It's ok dear!!" I whispered, giving her a soothing pat on the back. She stayed still as she snuggled deeper into my warmth, her tears wetting my clothes but I cared less about that. I couldn't imagine the amount of pain she was feeling but I knew it was devastating. "I'm here for you." I sympathised and soon, I began hearing her soft snores as I watched her sleeping face. She had gotten divorced with her ex because he had an affair with his secretary and she got married a few years later to her husband, who turned out to be her worst nightmare. She fell under the spell of his charms and aura on their first meeting and soon confessed their love for each other, but unknown to her, her husband had an ulterior motive. He claimed that her parents caused his wife's death and he was going to make her regret crossing paths with him. To wrap it all up, she was in a hellish marriage and I couldn't do much to help. Her husband--Diego was dangerous and mysterious. Stella wasn't allowed to step out of the house as her house was just like a prison yard. She tried running away a lot of times but Diego always ended up catching her and he brings her back to inflict endless torture till she got tired of trying to escape and just began to accept her cruel fate. It was heartbreaking knowing that there was nothing I could do to help than to offer words of comfort!! She stirred slightly in her seat and then I noticed the scar on her right hand as I stared at it with pity. I covered her with the quilt as I left through the window, remembering that her devilish husband could return anytime soon. On returning back to my comfy apartment, I fell on my bed tiredly as I gazed at the ceiling recounting events that occurred today. His contact card crossed my mind as I pulled it out of my hand bag, staring at it. "LEVI REYNOLDS." It reads. A cool name for a dummy!! I thought as I shook my head. The offer was really tempting but I had my self esteem to protect. I wouldn't want to look cheap, he had a lot of girls at his beck and call but why was he on my neck? My phone beeped and I checked the message sent to my email. My eyes widened in shock at the sack letter. What the hell was going on? Did he leave a bad review? I phoned Mrs. Kim immediately and her icy voice boomed through the phone. "I hope you've seen it, please do well by returning the agency's T-shirt and ID card unfailingly tomorrow and other materials given to you by the agency." Mrs Kim said. "But how is this....hello....hello!!" I said but she had already hung up. I sighed as I raked my hands through my hair frustratingly. That witch!! I thought fuming. I checked through the complaints group link on the agency's website and I saw the person behind it. But I explained to her the reason for my delay and she still chose to do this!! That's insane. I scoffed and I tossed my phone to the corner of the bed annoyingly. Now that I had lost my job, how was I going to pay off the huge debts that hung on my neck? How was I going to survive? Where do I go in search of a good paying job? Where do I start from again? All these thoughts envisioned my mind as I paced back and forth in my room. Soon my phone rang and I reached for it and checked the caller ID, it was Aunt Dina. My worries vanished at once, replaced with a heart warming smile. I picked the call, placing the phone on a loud speaker. "Hello aunt!!" Craig and Chris screamed in their usual, cute tone. I felt overjoyed, hearing their voices, it melted my heart. "How are my nephews doing?" I asked and they chuckled sweetly. I wished I was there to see their cute expression at that time. It would be fascinating to stare at. "We are growing taller." They chorused and I let out a hearty laugh. How much they had an effect on my mood! "But Chris isn't as chubby as before!!" Craig whined and Chris began to oppose. "I'm still chubby, aunt! I just miss your meals and your home made cookies, they are the best." Chris explained. "Same here also, Mom's cooking is no match to yours!!" Craig complained. "Shhhh....don't let mom hear you." Chris warned and I bursted out laughing at their silly drama. "When will you be coming home?? We've missed you and your cookies so much!!" Chris asked and I could feel tears at the brink of my eyelids. I've missed them so much and just listening to their voices alone makes me feel like having them in my arms right now!! "Yes aunt....I've missed you more!!" Craig said. "Soon sweethearts, I will return soon. Just promise me one thing!!" I said, allowing the tears to fall freely. I also tried not to make my voice sound croaky. "Anything!!!" They chorused and I smiled. "Be good kids and don't give mom a hard time." I said. "Ok aunt....we promise you that!!" They said and I blew them a kiss as they began grinning. How cute!! "Put your mom on the phone, let me have a word with her." I said and Aunt Dina took the phone. “Your kids are a whole lot.” Aunt Dina gushed, her tone low as I chuckled. We talked for a few minutes and she hung up. I fell back on my bed, gazing at the ceiling. I couldn't wait to see them, it's been so long and I couldn't wait to have those adorable sets of twins back in my arms. But first, I had to settle my debts!! That was my priority. Now that I am jobless, how do I do that? Just then, my gaze drifted back to the contact card on my drawer and it lingered. Accepting this job offer might make me seem cheap, but it might be the fastest way to clear off my debts!! He had made it clear that he wasn't going to have anything to do with me, I just needed to act as his wife. As simple as that!! This wasn't blackmailing anymore since I had already been fired. I reached for his card and I dialed his contact. It began ringing and I questioned myself if I was making the right choice. He picked on the third ring. "Hello, this is Ava Grayson." I introduced myself. "Ok, so...." He said. "I've made up my mind and I have decided to accept your job offer but on one condition....." I announced. "What...?”
