Chapter One
“Life wasn’t supposed to turn out like this. And yet, here I am, standing at the altar, getting married to a dude I met just five days ago.”
Lily thought to herself as she held her wedding flowers, staring at him.
The priest’s voice had become nothing but background noise in her ears.
How did my life end up like this?
“Lily. Lily!”
“Huh?”
She looked at the priest—her father.
“You need to say the words.”
“Oh, uh… sorry. I’m just a little flushed.”
“What a shy girl you are,” he said.
His voice was so low that she almost thought she had imagined it.
She looked at him, but the words refused to come out of her mouth.
How could she possibly say I do in front of someone she had only met five days ago, especially when her family had simply told her that she would be marrying him?
The wedding gown felt so tight around her that she could barely breathe. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes, and before she knew it, he leaned toward her and kissed her.
Her eyes widened in shock.
“I—I do.”
The words escaped her lips.
People stood up and began clapping. Despite the many guests, the beautiful decorations, and everything around her, Lily felt as though she had just signed her life away to the devil.
They walked over to her family to receive their blessings.
