The Shed was part of a complex on an old army base. At one end of the complex were barracks that the boys slept in. They were heavily guarded. Another part of the complex held the training grounds. This was where the boys were taught skills in combat. The last part of the complex was a large arena. More than forty boys lived in the complex. They were groomed to fight. Once a week, eight of the boys were led to the arena. The arena looked like a miniature coliseum with ten-foot walls surrounding it. Seating above the arena could hold fifty to sixty people. Two at a time, the boys were forced to enter the arena. The instructions were to fight. The winner would receive two days of any food they chose, a female or male companion, and a cash award.
