CHAPTER THREE. The low sound of sparring echoed from the training room, as Alpha Kane sparred with his beta Lance, most of the warriors stood around watching them spar with each other. "Your mind is not here, Kane. You've been acting off for a while now. What's going on?" Lance asked after he landed yet another punch on Kane's face. "It's nothing, Lance." "It's not, nothing if you're getting this worked up about it. Did you hear anything about your brother?" Lance asked while trying to land another punch, but Kane successfully blocked it this time around. "Nope, and hopefully I won't be hearing from him anytime soon," "Then what is it? I'm sure there's something extra going through your head." "It's the girl," Kane finally said, ending the fight and walking off to sit down. He gulped down a bottle of water, and his eyes ran through his warriors. "The girl? Which girl?" Lance asked; he could feel the agitation wafting off his Alpha's body, and he didn't like it. "We're leaving tonight. Inform the head enforcer he's going with us." Lance raised his eyebrows in question, "Another trip, alpha?" Kane's face went blank, his expression unreadable, but the tension in his shoulder was palpable, and” And this might be the last." Lance sighed heavily. "That's the sixth pack in less than two months. What makes you think this time will be different?" Kane's jaw tightened as his gaze sharpened. "I saw her," Lance gave him a confused look. "Saw who?" "My mate, I think her powers have finally awakened." Kane's voice was low but firm. And the very certainty in his words left no room for doubt. "In my dreams. Every night. She stands before me, in the silence, under the full moon." Lance frowned. "Dreams? You've been searching for your mate for months now. What makes you so sure that this time you'll find her?" Kane's eye flared. Lance knew how much he hated someone questioning him, but at this time, he was tired of running around endlessly searching and seeing the disappointment on his Alpha's face when he found nothing. But Kane replied, his voice sounding so sure. "Because I can feel the bond now, Lance. The pull, it's there. I've never been this sure about anything. I've been going from pack after pack searching for her, but this time around I know where she is". Lance watched his alpha carefully. The sharp determination in his eyes matched the weight of his words. "And where's that?" "Blood moon pack, that's where I always see her in my dreams." Lance exhaled sharply. Kane finding his mate meant that he would finally come into his full strength. Kane was already the most powerful alpha he knew, but with his mate beside him, he would be more powerful. Lance didn't speak for a while, the weight of everything sinking in; they'll finally be able to start training for the inevitable, but he pushed that thought away. "If you say so, alpha. But we need to move quickly and quietly; we don't need any other pack finding out about this, or your brother finding out either." Kane flinched a little at the mention of his brother. He tried too hard to pretend he didn't have a brother; he wanted his position as alpha. “I’ll get Torrent ready,” Lance said while walking towards the pack house. They arrived at the blood moon back at noon the next day, and the news spread like wildfire that Alpha Kane was in their territory. He was ushered in by one of the guards at the border as a message was sent to Alpha Williams, Annalise's father, to inform him of Alpha Kane's arrival. Kane walked into the castle and felt the pull immediately. “She's close by,” he whispered to Lance, who kept a straight and stoic face as he observed their surroundings. Kane raised his head and his eyes locked with hers, his breath caught in his throat as he recognised her immediately, mate! His wolf growled in his head. He stood there staring at the girl without moving. She looked so petite and fragile, all he wanted to do was just scoop her into his arms and leave immediately. He felt the mate bond snap into place. Kane was ushered into their Alpha's office, with Lance and Torrent walking beside him. Annalise's father started going on and on about allying with his pack, but he wasn't listening. His mind was still on the girl he had just seen, his mate; all he wanted to do was conclude everything and leave with the girl. He wondered what her position in the pack was. And he knew that without doubt, Alpha Williams would try to ally with him using the girl. “I'm so honoured to have you in our pack, Alpha Kane,” Liam said, addressing him by his title. He fussed around his table, agitated and not knowing what to do with his hands, as he watched the most powerful man he had heard of. “I came here in search of someone, Liam, and I'd be happy if you could just hand her over to me, and we would leave. I have better things to do.” Kane said, his eyes unblinking as he observed Liam. Liam's beta, Micah, walked into his office, in a hurry, “I'm so sorry, I was walking through the borders when I heard of his arrival,” he whispered to Liam. He took a seat beside William after greeting Kane. “We could assemble all our female members for you to select whoever you want, or we could just pick out the best. We have Rhea, our beta’s daughter; she's our best female warrior. I think she'll be the perfect match for you.” Lance scoffed from where he was sitting beside Kane, rolling his eyes. Kane knew how much Lance hated people who jumped to do anything at the first sight of power. “We know what we want already, the girl at the hall,” Kane started, looking straight at Liam, “what's her name?” “Oh, you mean Annalise? She's our weakest link and would be of no use to you. I really think you should go for Rhea instead.” Kane looked at Liam impatiently, his jaw ticking. “And what gave you the impression that I cared about what you think, Alpha Liam?” Kane said his voice came out low and deadly. Liam tried to stop himself from fidgeting; his instincts screaming at him to tread carefully, he knew that getting Kane angry right now would be like stepping on a landmine. “I'm sorry if I have said anything to get you angry,” Liam muttered quickly. “What my father is trying to say ….” James started, but before he could complete his statement, Lance cut him short. “We don't give a f**k about what your father is trying to say, pup. Bring the girl, we need to see her, no one asked you about her f*****g strength or weakness.” Kane clenched his fist, his eyes flicking from gold to black, as his wolf paced inside his head. “I don't think they're willing to give the girl up,” Kane's wolf said, sounding impatient. Kane was doing everything he could to stop his wolf from taking control; it could easily turn this meeting into a bloodbath with how agitated and angry he was feeling from being away from his mate. “Calm down, we need to act like civilised people, you can't go around killing people just because of little inconveniences.” “Now look here,” Torrent said, sitting up and addressing Liam, Micah, and James. *My alpha is someone who doesn't like repeating his words, and he's not a man you want to test. If you don't want this meeting to turn into a bloodbath, I'll ask that you simply bring the girl and keep your f*****g thoughts to yourself.” Suddenly, they heard a soft gasp from outside the door, and everyone became quiet instantly.
