As she returned to her hostel she saw her roommates Penelope and Maria talking to each other and saw Cheryl busy talking on the phone. Amaryllis went to her cupboard and took out her home clothes and started walking towards the bathroom area at the end of the corridor. She freshened herself and was back to her room when they announced its time for dinner.
She stared at her roommates and Penelope spoke that it’s better if we roommates all stick together. All of them agreed.
All of them took their plates and went to the mess. When they reached the mess it was almost full. They somehow spotted a space where all of them could fit. They all sat in that place and looked around. They were sharing the table with other people and all of them passed a normal smile.
As the time went by the mess area was crowded, some were standing inside the mess area, and some were standing outside the mess area. All mess workers were gathered there along with the mess warden. The mess warden took the mike and for making the announcements. She greeted the crowd and started telling the rules to be followed in the mess. After around twenty minutes she said the food can be served and asked all the girls to maintain discipline and decorum of the mess.
Since the line was long it took some time for Amaryllis and her roommates' turn to come. Amaryllis saw the food on her plate and stared at it for some time. It was her first time eating something like that for dinner. It was something very foreign. But she somehow ate it. The dishes served were in fact something that Amaryllis would eat in the morning as breakfast. She was shocked as well as dissatisfied because she never liked to eat something like that. But she couldn't help it and had to get used to it.
After the dinner they went to their rooms and Amaryllis called her parents; they were on their way back to the City B. They asked her about the events after they left and about what she ate. She answered them and said that it was time for their study hour.
Study hour is the time to study and in this particular time they can’t use their mobile phones and are required to stay in their room and study. It was at this time there would be checks and their SRA (Senior Resident advisor) would come for attendance. SRA’s are assigned on each floor with a certain number of students under her.
