As Amaryllis entered her room she saw two beds placed near the two sides of the wall and four study tables with chairs placed in each corner of the room. She saw there was a tall and lean girl looking at her. She was there along with parents. She smiled at Amaryllis. She politely nodded and settled her luggage in her bed. The girl’s parents started off with the basic greetings and started chatting with Amaryllis parents. Amaryllis kept quiet and was keenly looking at the room. Then she was imagining for the next one year she has to stay in this room and this is from where she will start her new chapter of her life. Her mother unpacked her luggage and started helping her with adjusting the clothes in her assigned shelf. The girl in her room; Penelope she introduced her and started arranging her things. As the time passed her other roommate came. She came with her parents and introduced herself as Cheryl. She was from the same stream as Amaryllis. After exchanging greetings and introduction even her parents started arranging her things. At last her last roommate came. Her name was Maria. Even she started unpacking her luggage. The room was lively. As time passed, it was time for their parents to leave. Amaryllis was nervous but, was acting all strong. Not only she all her roommates were in the same state. As Amaryllis parents were about to leave she was very emotional. Her eyes were welled up and she was controlling her tears by looking down. She was trying to compose herself. It was an overwhelming emotion she couldn’t control it. It was a struggle for her. As the time came for her parents to leave, tears rolled down her eyes. She felt her heart clench at that moment. She won’t be with her parents. She can only see them during her vacations. She cried on parting with them. Amaryllis’ mom gave her a big fat hug and asked her to take care. Even she was emotional. She asked her to be brave and started making fun of her daughter who had tears and snot on her face. Amaryllis cleaned her face with the help of wet tissue and said good bye to her parents.   The situation in the room was no better, her other roommates were also in the same predicament and pain. All of them were crying and hugging their parents. All of them looked like chicks abandoned by mother hen. At that time one of Amaryllis’ senior came, her name was Elsa. She was in final year and from the same place as Amaryllis. She was her neighbour. Sensing the sad situation she told Amaryllis to cheer up and she also joined Amaryllis mom in making fun of her. After Amaryllis’ parents left, Elsa took Amaryllis along with her and consoled her. After that she took her to her room which was in a separate hostel. She brought her to mess so that she could have something to eat.   Elsa took Amaryllis to her room introduced her roommates and asked Amaryllis to introduce herself. Elsa told her roommates about her visit to Amaryllis room and the parting scene with parents. Amaryllis had good talk with all her seniors and she was grateful to them for giving her motivation and guidance. They told her about small incidents as example to keep her out of trouble. By the time Amaryllis returned to her room it was already dusk.
