CHAPTER II – Vanilla

1006 Words
Esme POV   I grab a taxi going to Cardiff, It’ll take me approximately one hour. I might get late if I’ll be stuck in traffic. At 9:00 I can feel the intense feeling of reality as the taxi stops in the sea of cars. I went out and run, hoping that I get there in time. I run ignoring the people on the street, ignoring my ringing phone. I’m wearing a white long sleeve, with a ribbon tie on the upper right, just below my collarbone. I pair it with a short black skirt, and to match it all a 1-inch black sandal with a little diamond in its strap.   I went straight to the receptionist after fixing myself.   “Esmeralda Dwayne, I’m here for the interview,” I said with a smile.   “I’m sorry, but today’s interview was canceled. It was immediate, sorry we’re not able to send a message about it. But don’t worry,” she handed me an envelope. “this is a gift check in exchange for your time. And we also included some cash to cover your expenses for today. Will be contacting you again, once we arranged the next interview schedule.” I smile and said thank you. My shoulders are weak hearing that today’s schedule was canceled.   If this takes a little longer, I have to apply for another company. My saving is running dry, and I’ve been working my butt almost 24/7 already. The UK is a great place, they also pay well, but the living expenses here are way higher than in Australia. I put the envelope inside my shoulder bag and took out my phone. It was blinking, and as I open it I saw 38 missed calls. from two different numbers. And a text message from Suzy.   “Brian is here.” I shrug my shoulder as I feel the heavy weight on it. I feel so stressed. What else can go wrong?   Then my phone ring again, the same unknown number that rang me several times today. I took a deep breath as I answer.   “Look Brian, I know this is rude of me. But I can’t do this anymore. Please, stop looking for me, and don’t call my number.” I drop the call, before hearing his answer. I don’t want to be rude to him, he’s nice and all. But, he just can’t make my heart beat unusual. I just used him so I can come to the UK.   You can call me this and that, but I didn’t mean to do it. My mom learns that the son of his old friend is now managing a hotel in London, they set us up. He became my passport to the UK.   Brian is cool, he is a very nice guy, a pastor’s son. But, he’s more on the nice type, and he can’t give me what I need as a woman. Every single day I’m with him gets boring and boring each day. One day, I just decided to pack my things and move.   I turn my phone off and decided to use the gift certificate that was given to me. It was a 150-pound certificate worth of Red Velvet apparel. A good sum considering it was just a token for a canceled schedule.   But this is why I want to apply here. Cause they are well-known for taking good care of their employee, not to mention that the owner was said to be an Aussie. I don’t have a British accent, and at times, I still find it hard to understand their thick accent. Especially those who are from Ireland.   Suzy POV   A hard knock on my door stops me from working on my PC. I hurried to open it, thinking it was Esme, but a strange guy panting in breath was the one who knocks.   “Hi, I’m looking for Ms. Dwayne.” He said looking warry.   “Please come in, Esme is not around, she went to Cardiff for an interview. I’m her roommate Suzy. Have a seat.” I pouted my lips, pointing to the sofa, as I grab the clothes lying around the floor. I run to the kitchen to dump the used clothes.   “Sorry for that I wasn’t expecting anyone today,” I said coldly, no one in the UK knows Esme, except her ex Brian. The boring guy.   “Wait here, I’ll get you a drink.” Not knowing what to say I left him. “Here, I already texted Esme about you coming, but she hasn’t replied yet. I assumed She’ll be late.” I open the TV and toss the remote control to him.   Taylor’s POV   I can smell her scent, it was the sweetest smell I know, it’s lingering on every part of this house. My eyes were fixed in a color peach door, where I assumed Esmeralda’s room is. I’m trying hard to resist the urge to go inside that room and inhale her scent. The sweet smell of Vanilla.   While trying to make me at ease, I tried to call Esmeralda several times. But she’s not answering my call.   Suzy handed me an orange juice. I can see how uneasy she was with me. So I just handed her a paper with my name and number on it. Then left.   While driving my way back, Esmeralda answered. I was transfixed as I heard her voice. But she called me Brian, an unfamiliar name that made me feel the need to suck the blood out of whoever that Brian guy is. Then she drops the call, and I cannot reach her number after that.
