Prologue
16 Years Prior
The skies came alive with rattling thunder and striking lightning, momentarily it casted a gruesome image of shredded bodies and c*****e. The rain pelted down relentlessly, heavy winds swayed the giant sipine trees and made everything in its wrath cower. The stench of the encampment was gut churning. Bloodly water seeped into the icy cold river, carving a trail of death in its path.
Aris hid between two boulders clutching his shivering wife Iryne. Surely if the creatures did not kill them the blistering cold certainly would. Their camp had been under attack for almost two days, they were hungry and weak. The rain had only started pouring the day before, and it seem unlikely to stop as winter was upon Pisces. That could have explained why their camp had been attacked, these darklings would have never attacked in warmer days, because they thrived in the cold. Desperation and lack of sleep must be leading to his hallucination thought Aris. Because somewhere he heard echos of a wailing child, though it maybe a trap to lure anyone in hiding. He was not sure why they would leave a helpless child alive. It must indeed be a trap. These creatures devour everything breathing with blood running through its veins.
An innocent baye thought Aris, it was the one thing he and Iryne had tried for so many years to have but never succeeded. Were its parents even alive he questioned himself and looked over at Iryne. "Iryne, do you hear a baye?" he whispered to his wife. With her teeth clattering and body trembling, Iryne nodded her head to show him she did. Maybe he could hide between the shrubbery and retrieve her before the creatures got her. But something wasn't right. He had yet to see any creature in sight. It's a trap he concluded. And it could mean that others were hiding in the surrounding forest as well. So he decided to wait and told Iryne his plan.
Almost two hours later, the rain showed no signs of stopping and the storm only got worse. Maybe even the creatures were taking cover. He would have to move now if he wanted to save the babe. So at the risk of being caught and devoured Aris sprung into action. At the exact moment a blinding white light struck into the skies from the tent in the middle of the camp and burnt all the creatures. An immense shock wave sent Aris flying into the nearby river. Luckily he was saved, he knew from the vantage point that Iryne was safe. Such power could only be a sign from the great Oranis. Dragging himself to seek cover under the nearest tree, Aris suddenly heard the wailing of the child who had by some mystery survived. Miraculously it had stopped raining, even the winds were calm. Not a sound could be heard besides the flowing river. Staggering and coughing, with buring eyes Aris approached the glowing tent. There to his amazement was the baye, swaddled in the whitest blanket he had ever seen, unharmed and watching him with keen glowing blue eyes. He could have almost fainted if it wasn't for the small shield he saw around her. She must be the most beautiful baye he ever saw, because she swore she had smiled at him. Picking her up in his arms he ran back to Iryne and they made haste their escape into the dark of night...
