Chapter Fourteen - Opportunity
Gabriella's POV
I stood in front of Tami with anger boiling in me. How dared she acts angry because I was finally getting cozy with George? Had she forgotten that it was the exact same thing she did to me when I was still known as Keisha? How dared she act like the victim now? I fought back the urge to raise my voice at her so it would not seem like I was holding any past grudge.
I forced a smile on my face instead and asked in a cool tone. "I do not understand what you are talking about Tami?" I pretended to act like I was in a loop. Tami's loud voice had already attracted the attention of a few people in the hallways. My plan was to act like the bigger person in order to humiliate her.
"Do you not have a husband?" Tami barked at me angrily. I nodded my head slowly and mouthed "Yes, I do."
"The fo...." Just before Tami could complete her sentence, George appeared in the way. He stood in the middle of us and turned to gaze at me, flashing an apologetic smile. "I am so sorry Gabriella, you must feel embarrassed right now. Tami tends to overreact a lot. You see, she loves me so much that she could not stand seeing me with another woman," George said. He paused to chuckle nervously.
I watched him avert his gaze to Tami, I studied George's reaction slowly, I watched him stylishly raise a brow at Tami and gesture her to play along to his words. Seeing that Tami was playing too stubborn, I had to immediately cut in. "I understand, are we not all like that?" I joked and George laughed in response.
I turned to Tami with a forced cheeky smile. "Tami, you have no reason to worry. I and George are only business partners. We only agreed to see him tonight for a team dinner. Everyone else was invited, so it is not just something between I and George. If you still doubt me, you can tag along for our first ever team dinner as well." I said.
I watched as Tami's cheeks flushed red in embarrassment. Everyone made whispering noises and eyed her with so much irritation. I was glad to see her humiliated like a jealous freak. I waved at her and slowly began to walk away.
The clicking noise of my heels made me feel like a boss and my shoulders were up high. As I slowly made my way from Tami. My phone beeped loudly, interrupting my moment. I fetched it out of my Hermes purse and gazed at the screen. My brows furrowed in confusion as I saw that it was a text from Lucian. Before I proceeded to read it, I suddenly remembered Imani and how I caught her in the kitchen on a phone call.
Her plan was to snatch Lucian as hers and I could tell that she was not the one who came up with the idea, Victoria was the one pulling the strings. She badly wanted me out of her son's house, and I was not going to let that happen. I needed to find a way to push Imani out of the house and expose her schemes to Lucian.
I sighed heavily as I felt desperation wash over me. I was going through a lot at the moment and everything felt choking. I had told James about Uncle Jude and James told me he was going to look into it again. I needed to execute my revenge plan on George and Tami as soon as possible. I wanted them out of the way. Now Imani and Victoria were another challenge I was forced to face.
I opened Lucian's text and read it in a low. "Are you going to be home early?"
I felt slightly confused by his question. Lucian never really minded what time I arrived home. I could not help but wonder if he had something important to discuss with me. Even if he did, I was not going to miss this team dinner. I needed George in the palm of my hand.
"Yes, I have a team dinner to attend. Why? Is everything alright?" I sent the text back to Lucian, and it felt like he had been expecting my text because of how his reply came through in haste.
"Oh, alright. Enjoy your team dinner, see you at home soon." His text came in. I nodded my head slowly and shoved my phone back into my pocket and proceeded to go back to work.
Work hours passed by quickly, it was 7pm already and George was standing by the door of my office, reminding me of dinner.
"Do not tell me that you planned to miss the team dinner?" George snapped at me. I smiled at him and shook my head in disagreement. "Why would I do that? Perhaps you think that I am offended by the way your wife spoke to me?" I asked in a light tone.
I watched George's countenance fall. He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "About that..." He trailed off and paused to clear his throat. "I am so sorry about Tami's nonchalant attitude." He apologized.
I shrugged it off as we left my office. We joined our other team members at a restaurant nearby. We had a few alcoholic drinks and a barbecue. The time was 10pm already. I managed not to drink too much because I knew I needed to drive.
"Goodbye everyone, and thank you for dinner." I yelled as I slowly rushed out of the restaurant while the others were playing some kind of drinking game.
I felt footsteps trailing me from behind. I turned around to gaze at the culprit, George.
He looked tipsy. "Going home already?" He asked.
I nodded my head in agreement. "Yes." But then it suddenly clicked to me that seeing George drunk was an opportunity I could not miss.
I cleared my throat and asked, "Actually, do you think you want to spend the night with me?"
