Not only was no one sure how long Bethany was standing there for, but no one knew how much she had heard.
I myself heard her walking up towards the beginning of the conversation, so I am sure she heard just about all of it. It obviously became clear that the men sitting around me realized who it was that may have just overheard their not very lady-appropriate conversation.
