Ever since Tuesday I couldn’t help but be suspicious of Ethan. Since when does he call me Clark? Nobody has ever called me ‘Clark’ except for the dude from the unknown texts. Was he just hinting that it was him?
Now I come to think of it, he’s my neighbor so it shouldn’t have been too hard for him to have seen me in the towel. It would explain a lot actually.
So on Wednesday Sophia went to Ethan to ask if she could barrow his phone so she could sneakily check if it was the same number. He had told her his phone was dead so that plan failed. Just in case you’re wondering, yes we checked all the numbers in Sophia’s and Sarah’s phone but none of the numbers matched. So either it’s someone they don’t have the number saved off or they’re using a second phone.
On Thursday we waited for lunch to sent a text to the unknown number, who had by the way been quiet up until now, but Ethan didn’t take his phone out once during lunch and no reply came.
Today we decided we needed a more direct yet subtle approach. We hadn’t come up exactly with what we we’re going to do but most people were going to yet another party, so we’d come up with something.
-You still haven’t come up with a dare?-
I texted my mystery person again but just as I thought, no reply came. I slightly leaned back in my chair looking around the library at all the working students. Everyone was bright and busy but I couldn’t stop thinking about this person, it’s making me go completely crazy. I don’t care yet my mind is constantly going over every person again and again. It’s got me way to interested to my liking, this stupid game…
“Hey Ella, mind if I sit?”, I snapped out of my thoughts and saw Liam so I quickly nodded. He pulled the chair next to me out and sat down, looking back at me with those dreamy eyes.
“I’m not interrupting, am I?”, he asked politely when he looked down at the papers scattered around the table.
“No no, I wasn’t really doing much anyway”, I explained and I felt him relax a bit, leaning back in his chair.
“So how are you doing?” he asked me
“I’m doing great, just a little tired”
“Is everything allright?” he asked concerned.
“Yeah, I’ll just take a nap after school and then I can easily go to the party tonight. Are you going?”
“I am. Do you need me to drive you guys again?” he asked sweetly.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll just see you there”, I declined his offer. This guy has had to take care of drunk me already.
“Okay”, he nodded softly.
“And how are you doing?”, I asked him after a short silence.
“Good, just busy with school or football and after that I have to help my dad at the company”, he explained.
“Wow, that’s crazy. I’m surprised you still have any time for friends”, I joked. I mean I just have school and that already tires me out like crazy.
“I could always make time”, he said and I felt my cheeks slightly heat up, thinking back at what James had told me. Why is this guy so sweet?
“Anyway, I gotta go. See you tonight?” he said and gave me a quick wink before standing up. Holy f**k.
“Mhm”, I managed to say. He smiled at me one last time before leaving me in the library. Yeah, this guy holds millions of hearts and doesn’t even know it.
“So you’re hanging out with Liam now?” I turned around and saw Ashley come from a few tables away.
“You know he’s not into girls like you right?”, she continued and sat down on my table. What’s that supposed to mean?
“Is there a problem Ashley?”
“No, not yet but you should know you’re wasting your time. He’s way too good for you”, she said and judgingly looked me up and down.
“First of all, who even says I want anything with him and secondly you don’t know me”, I retorted back. This girl has quite the attitude. But then again, so do I.
“I’ve seen you walking around grabbing every bit of attention from guys you could get and Liam doesn’t fall for chicks like that” Well, she’s the one to speak… I slowly started packing my stuff, it’s not like I was doing anything anyway.
“Whatever Ashley”, I told her, gathering my last things to put them away.
“Just stay away from him”, she snarled and paraded away. Wow…
Not long after my little encounter with Ashley the bell rang, signalling the end of my first full school week. I was mentally exhausted and I knew that from tomorrow, I would be living in my bed for the whole weekend. I had to walk home this time since Michelle had already earned detention, I didn’t even bother to ask what for. Not that I minded though, it was really sunny but a colder breeze made the temperature a lot more bearable. I was pretty tired yet the walk brought my mind at peace and sometimes I would just close my eyes for a few seconds, enjoying the sound of the wind and the birds.
The rest of the evening went by as if it was nothing. I got home, took a nap, ate, Sarah and Sophia came over, we got dressed and then we ended up where we are now. With the wine.
“Ashley can be such a b***h”, Sarah said when I explained what she told me in the library. The moment we started with the wine, I immediately felt it kick in like a motherfucker.
“She’s so not over Liam”, Sophia said and I couldn’t help but agree. She was way too possessive over him to just see him as a friend.
“I just think it’s sad she behaves that way and then describes me as an attention w***e”, I explain, sipping some more wine.
“Onto more relevant matters, what’s our plan for tonight?” Sarah asked and I started thinking. The only way I could catch him is when I saw him with the texts on his phone.
“Why don’t we try to make him text me again?”, I said and started typing yet another message.
-Didn’t you say yourself it wasn’t nice to ignore people?-
“Yeah, that seems the most logical to me as well”, Sarah nodded in agreement and we both looked at Sophia who was staring weirdly at her phone. When she finally looked up, she saw our gazes and let out a big sigh.
“So Oliver’s been sending me messages again and I don’t know how I feel about that”, she confessed.
Just when I was about to answer her screen lit up and a call came to the screen.
“It’s Oliver”, Sophia looked at us with wide eyes.
“Pick up then”, Sarah pushed and she finally did, putting it on speaker.
“Hey”, she said hesitantly and I couldn’t help but look weirdly at her. Since when is this girls shy?
“Hey, I wanted to ask if you guys needed a ride? ” Oliver asked and we all looked at each other. Would save us money for the taxi, so why not? Sarah and I both nodded before Sophia turned back to the phone.
“That would be nice. I’m at Sophia’s, at Pa-“
“Yeah yeah, I know where she lives. I’ll be there in a few minutes”, Oliver said.
“Okay, thanks”, Sophia told him.
“Don’t miss me too much ay”, he chirped trough the phone before ending the call. Sophia’s cheeks however turned crimson red.
She looked up at the two of us before accusingly pointing towards us.
“You two just shut up”, she warned before standing up, ignoring the stupid smiles on our faces.
“So are we going to this party or not?” she said, resting her hands on her hips. Sarah and I just gave each other a knowing look before getting up and cleaning up.
A few minutes later indeed we heard the car honk outside, probably Oliver.
“Let’s go”, Sarah said and we carefully made our way out.
Imma catch you tonight Ethan. I locked my front door and put away my keys when I felt my phone vibrate. I took it out and it was no other then ‘the stalker’.
-Sorry Clark, I’ve been busy. So how did you find my letter?- unknown
-It was unexpected but quite lovely-
-Love to hear that. So are you ready for your next dare? - unknown
