Chapter 1: The Evil Best Friend
Dana came barging into my room so suddenly I had no time to hide my stash of very expensive chocolates. Jolting, I tried my best to cover it up with my bed sheet but the material was in such a messy tangle that it only helped in exposing my greedy ass more.
I was caught.
"Were you just trying to hide that from me?" Dana paused, an eyebrow raised and her right hand on the light brown woolen purse hanging from her shoulder. Compared to my faded orange shirt with little holes and Donald Duck pajama trousers, she looked overdressed standing in my room, clad in distressed denim shorts and a baggy white brand shirt partially tucked in.
"Hide what?" I shamelessly tried to tug the sheets to cover the container my chocolates were in but the universe hated me and they were stuck somewhere. My chocolates were ordered from Switzerland and cost me over 150 bucks! Now don't judge me, I've done enough of that on my own. Bottom line of all is I don't want to share.
With an unimpressed eyeroll, Dana came over to sit on my other side, instantly rummaging her purse. "I'm not interested in your snack."
That didn't convince me, I moved the container out of reach. "Mmh hmm. There obviously is a very good reason you are here disturbing my Saturday morning."
Dana paused and looked up at me. "It's 3pm, Sarah."
My eyes popped in my socket and I heard a gasp before realizing it was me. "What? I swear it was just 9 O'Clock five minutes ago!"
There was a frown on Dana's face, and she waved her hand at me indicating she was impatient. "Let's get to the point."
I sat a little straighter. She had this command to her tone and I figured it was something important. "I'm listening."
Dana looked pleased. "I have what you need."
I blinked. She blinked back. I blinked again.
There was a near growl of frustration. "What do you need most right now, Sarah."
"A boyfriend." I said frankly and I could tell that if I didn't shuffle away by at least 3 feet, Dana would have bitten me in disbelief. I laughed. "What, that's what I-"
"What have you been trying to get these past weeks, Sarah?"
"Better grades?"
"You're hopeless."
"Don't remind me."
"Cutting to the chase since you chose to be dumb." Dana sighed and I winced a little at her words. She pulled her hand out from her purse, holding a piece of paper I always see in my dreams. Once again, I realized a gasp escaped me. "A ticket to Colin Morelli's private fansign."
"HOLY SHI--" My hands flew to my open mouth and I was convinced that all my dreams came true in that moment. This was a ticket I had been trying to get for over a month now! Legally and illegally, there is nothing I hadn't tried. No amount of money I hadn't spent. Yet I couldn't get my hands on those pretty, little tickets. Now here it was, firmly held by Dana's manicured fingers. Calling out to me.
I felt the slap on my hands before realizing I had dreamily reached out to collect it. Dana had this smug smile on her face as she pulled her hands away.
"Nuh uh, it comes with a catch." She patted down her red, curly hair with that same smug smile.
"Name it, I don't care at this point."
"Go get me something to eat first." Dana smiled sweetly. "Such a bad host you are."
15 minutes later, my evil best friend was eating my precious microwaved chicken nugget I'd been saving for a movie marathon, while I gave her stinky feet a massage.
"I swear to baby Jesus, Dana." I glared as she bit into one of my nuggets. It was painful to watch. "If after all these...."
"Oh, right." She set the plate on my bed side table and reached out to take one of my chocolates.
I jolted. "DO NOT DARE!"
She looked shocked for a moment then went ahead with it. "Well, I guess the tickets would have to be given away."
"Given away?"
"Mmh hmm." Dana picked up a chicken nugget, bit into it. "I have this new personal i********: account and giving away THIS," she held up the tickets and I stared wistfully at it. "is a sure way to get a lot of followers. So maybe I should just...."
"Just take the damned chocolate, you evil rotten potato."
She took two and I silently died inside. My money....
"Great taste."
"Tell me the terms and conditions."
Dana looked at me for a while before bursting into laughter. "Look at you all serious."
"No time to joke around." I narrowed my eyes at the redhead in front of me and seriously considering options for a new best friend. "What do I have to do?"
She stretched both arms above the red flames on her head and wiggled to find a comfortable position.
"Well--hey keep massaging the feet." I cussed her out and she laughed loudly again. "When will your mum be back from work?"
I narrowed my eyes at her. "She said about midnight today... why?"
Dana grinned, showing sharp canines I always found attractive on her. "Because, we're going somewhere tonight."
