Return to Green City After their brief but intense escape to the Maldives, reality had a way of creeping back into their lives. The sun-drenched beaches, the peaceful silence, and the freedom they felt in each other’s company quickly faded into distant memories. The luxurious villa with its stunning views of the crystal-clear water became a dream, while Green City fast-paced, bustling, and unforgiving waited for them. Their flight back was quiet. The cabin was filled with the hum of the engines and the faint murmur of fellow passengers, but it felt like an emotional void between them. Dylan was preoccupied with his phone, sending terse messages to his mother, while Lina’s mind was still lingering on the calls from her boss and the ongoing pull between her career and the new life she was trying to build with Dylan. As the plane touched down in Green City, the sprawling skyline came into view the glass buildings reflecting the late afternoon sun, the streets crowded with people, and the ever-present hum of the city that never seemed to sleep. They didn’t speak much as they left the airport, a car waiting to take them back to their respective worlds. Dylan’s mansion was far from the center of the city, nestled on the outskirts, while Lina’s apartment was tucked in the heart of Green City, where the lights never went out and the streets buzzed with constant motion. The City’s Demands Green City was a place of opportunity and high stakes. From its towering corporate headquarters to the private estates nestled in the hills, it was a city where power and influence dictated everything. Dylan, with his wealth and lineage, was a name many recognized, but his personal life his marriage to Lina had remained a secret, at least for now. The pressure of keeping things under wraps was not something he took lightly, especially not with his family’s expectations hanging over him. Lina, on the other hand, had built her career from the ground up. As a rising star in the legal world, she was expected to give her all to her clients, to handle the toughest cases, and to never let her personal life interfere with her work. But after the sudden marriage, she couldn’t help but wonder how much of herself she had given away. She was torn between the woman she had been before independent, career-driven and the woman she had become after meeting Dylan someone who longed for something deeper, something more. The first few days back in Green City were filled with hectic meetings for both of them. Lina had no choice but to throw herself back into work, diving into case files and legal briefs, while Dylan seemed to bury himself in his empire the Black Wood Enterprise, a conglomerate that spanned industries from luxury jewelry and ornaments to real estate and construction. His assistant, Kofi, kept him on track with meetings and schedules, but his mind was elsewhere, caught between the demands of his family and his secret marriage. The Meeting with His Friend One afternoon, as Dylan was preparing for a meeting, he received a call from his old friend, Asif. Asif was the heir to a long line of police chiefs in Green City and was just a few years away from taking over the position of chief himself. The two of them had grown up together, but as they got older, their lives had diverged Dylan with his business empire, and Asif with his path in law enforcement. “I heard the news, Dylan,” Asif said, his voice a mix of disbelief and curiosity. “You really did it, huh? You married her.” Dylan sighed, rubbing his temple. “I didn’t exactly plan for it to happen this way, Asif. It just… it just did.” “Well, now you’ve got to tell your parents. Especially your mother. She’s going to find out eventually. I’m just wondering when you plan on telling them.” Dylan felt a knot tighten in his stomach at the thought of his mother’s reaction. He had always kept his personal life private, but now that Lina was his wife, there was no avoiding the consequences of his actions. “I don’t know yet,” he said, his voice guarded. “I’m still figuring it out.” Asif chuckled, his tone a little lighter. “Good luck, my friend. You’re in for a storm.” Dylan hung up the phone, lost in thought. The weight of his mother’s disapproval loomed over him like a dark cloud, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that no matter how well things were going with Lina, the expectations of his family would always be a constant pressure on their relationship. Kofi’s Surprise The following day, Kofi arrived at Dylan’s office, his usual efficiency apparent as he went over the day’s schedule. “You’ve got several meetings, Mr. Blackwood,” Kofi began, flipping through the papers. “There’s a partnership deal with the Austins, a real estate pitch at noon, and then” “Cancel them all,” Dylan interjected, his tone firm. Kofi paused, looking at him in confusion. “What do you mean, cancel them?” “I’m taking Lina somewhere. No meetings today. Just… cancel everything.” Kofi blinked, taken aback by the sudden change. “You’ve never canceled meetings before, Mr. Blackwood. Everything’s time-sensitive.” Dylan leaned back in his chair, staring out the window. “It’s more important than business today, Kofi. Trust me.” The Call to Action As Dylan and Lina’s connection deepened, so did the tension surrounding their lives in Green City. One evening, after dinner at the manor, Lina stood on the balcony, gazing out at the sprawling city below. The lights twinkled in the distance, and the sounds of the city’s nightlife began to fill the air, but she felt an overwhelming sense of isolation. The dream of the Maldives felt so far away now, as if it had never been real at all. Her phone buzzed again, breaking her thoughts. She glanced at the screen it was her boss again. “Lina, I need you to look at the Johnson case,” her boss said before she even had a chance to speak. “We’re pushing for a settlement, but we need you to finalize the details.” Lina’s heart sank. “I’m still… dealing with things here, Mr. Chandler. I can’t just drop everything.” “We need you to, Lina,” he insisted, his voice sharp. “You’re the best we have. Get it done.” She hung up the phone, frustrated. She had just returned from a brief escape, yet already, her world was pulling her back into its relentless grip. The weight of the law firm’s demands, the unfinished business with Dylan’s family, and the pressure of balancing both was beginning to take its toll. Dylan appeared in the doorway, his expression unreadable. “What’s going on?” he asked softly, stepping toward her. “Work,” she sighed. “It never stops, does it?” Dylan didn’t respond right away. Instead, he walked over to her, his presence filling the space. “You don’t have to do this alone, Lina. I’ve got your back. We’ll figure it out, together.” For a moment, she felt a flicker of hope. But then the phone rang again. This time, it was Dylan’s mother. Lina glanced at Dylan, and his expression tightened. He picked up the call without saying a word. “Hello, Mother,” he said, his voice carefully controlled. “I’m aware of what you’ve heard. But yes, I’m married. And I’d appreciate it if you kept it between us for now.” Lina turned away, feeling a cold wave of discomfort. This was their life now always on edge, always hiding parts of themselves from the world around them. It felt like no matter how far they ran, they would always be pulled back into the world of expectations, obligations, and responsibilities. The Weight of Expectations The days that followed were a blur of obligations, personal conflicts, and difficult decisions. Dylan and Lina were in constant communication, but the distance between their hearts seemed to grow as the weight of their separate worlds bore down on them. Green City, with its constant hustle and high stakes, had pulled them back from their idyllic escape. But despite the strain, they remained bound by something stronger their connection, however complex and fraught with complications, was real. As the tension mounted, it was clear that their journey wasn’t going to be easy. But for now, they clung to the hope that they could navigate the obstacles ahead togethe
