Later That Evening – Dylan’s Study The soft clicking of polished shoes echoed down the corridor before a gentle knock came at the door. “Come in,” Dylan called. Kofi entered with his usual efficiency. Dressed in tailored gray, with an iPad in one hand and a Bluetooth earpiece in the other, he looked every inch the overworked, under-slept personal assistant to one of the richest men in the country. “Sir,” Kofi began, “you have back-to-back meetings scheduled for the week. Here’s the lineup” Dylan raised a hand, silencing him mid-sentence. “One word,” he said. “Cancel.” Kofi blinked. “Sir?” “Cancel everything. Meetings. Events. Dinners. Calls. Push them all to a later date.” Kofi hesitated. “Sir, some of these appointments—” “I said cancel.” Kofi swallowed a sigh. “May I ask… why?” Dylan turned, his gaze softening as he looked at the city beyond the window. “I’m taking my wife to the Maldives.” There was a long pause before Kofi blinked twice, then set the iPad down carefully. “Excuse me, sir?” Dylan smirked. “Yes, Kofi. You heard me correctly. I got married. Yesterday.” Kofi froze. “Married?” he repeated, as if trying to process the information. Dylan nodded, a playful gleam in his eyes. “I didn’t exactly announce it to the world. A private ceremony. Just the two of us.” Kofi’s mouth opened, then closed. “I… I didn’t know you were even seeing someone seriously.” Dylan gave a half-shrug. “It’s complicated. But yes. I’m married now.” “You’re… married…” Kofi repeated slowly, then let out a nervous laugh. “Wow. Okay. That’s… a big thing. How am I just now hearing about this?” “Let’s just say I wanted it to be my choice, not anyone else’s,” Dylan replied. “And I don’t want the family to know just yet. Especially my mom. She has a way of making everything very complicated.” Kofi chuckled. “I won’t say anything. Not that anyone would believe me anyway. I mean, you, married? It’s almost too shocking to spread.” “I’m trusting you on this, Kofi. Keep it quiet.” “Of course, sir. Your secret’s safe with me.” He paused. “I take it we’re moving up the honeymoon plans?” Dylan’s lips curved into a satisfied grin. “Tomorrow morning. Get the jet ready.” Kofi raised an eyebrow. “The Maldives, huh? I’ll start working on the details.” “Make sure it’s private. No cameras. No interruptions.” “Yes, sir. And just to clarify, you’ll want the villa to have…?” “The works. Infinity pool. Private chef. Ocean view. A place to breathe. I’m putting the world on hold for a while.” Kofi nodded, making notes in his tablet. “Understood. I’ll make it happen.” As Kofi exited the study, Dylan allowed himself a moment to simply breathe. His mind briefly flashed to his new life with Lina, how quickly it had all unfolded. But he wasn’t worried. He wasn’t running from anything anymore. His thoughts shifted to her again—Lina, still on the terrace, lost in a book. He picked up his phone, sending her a simple text: Pack light. We’re leaving early tomorrow. The Next Morning – Private Jet The jet was sleek and modern, its interior the epitome of luxury. Linen seats in cream and gold. Dark wood accents. The windows revealed the vast sky, endless and blue. A flight attendant brought them champagne as soon as they boarded, but Lina barely noticed. Her gaze was fixed on Dylan, who sat across from her, relaxed but with a quiet intensity. “Are you sure about this?” she asked him quietly, her voice betraying just a hint of uncertainty. Dylan leaned forward, his hand reaching across the table to gently grasp hers. “We’ve waited long enough, haven’t we? A few days away from everything won’t hurt.” Lina smiled, though she was still adjusting to the whirlwind of events. “It’s just… everything feels so perfect. I never thought it would be this easy.” Dylan’s expression softened, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. “Love isn’t meant to be complicated. It’s only complicated when we let other people, or our own fears, get in the way.” The jet lifted into the sky, and Lina felt her worries ease away with the clouds. This wasn’t a dream. This was real. And this was them. Arriving in the Maldives The jet landed at a private airstrip, and a sleek black car waited to take them to their destination. The resort was tucked away on a small, private island, surrounded by nothing but the deep blue sea and the endless horizon. As they drove along the narrow paths lined with palm trees, Lina’s breath caught at the sight. The villa they arrived at was beyond anything she had ever imagined. It looked like something straight out of a magazine an open-air design that blended seamlessly with the landscape. The walls were made of natural stone and teak wood, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that opened out to the beach. The infinity pool stretched into the ocean, the water reflecting the sky in shimmering blues and greens. A private chef had already prepared a meal on the veranda a spread of fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and champagne. Soft lounge chairs sat beneath large umbrellas, the perfect place to relax and take in the beauty of the Maldives. Dylan turned to her with a smile, his hand gently resting on her back. “Welcome to paradise.” Lina’s eyes wandered over the scene, still in awe. “Dylan… it’s perfect.” “I thought you’d like it.” He stepped closer, brushing her hair away from her face. “There’s no rush here. No schedules. No pressures. Just us.” She met his gaze, the warmth of the moment washing over her. “I think I could get used to this” Dylan smiled and kissed her softly, the promise of a future together unfolding before them. For the first time in years, Lina felt like she was truly where she belonged. Strolling along the Beach The air in the Maldives was rich with the scent of salt and tropical blooms. Lina stepped barefoot onto the soft, powdery white sand, her feet sinking into it with every step she took. The turquoise sea stretched out endlessly before them, an infinite expanse of blue that shimmered beneath the golden rays of the setting sun. It was the kind of beauty that made you forget about time, about everything, and just be. Dylan was close behind her, matching her stride as they strolled along the water’s edge. His fingers brushed lightly against hers, a touch so gentle it was almost accidental. Yet, neither of them pulled away. Their connection was undeniable, unspoken but felt in every brush of skin, every shared glance. Lina’s eyes drifted to the horizon, where the sun was slowly sinking into the ocean, casting long shadows on the sand. She could hear the faint hum of distant waves and feel the gentle breeze tugging at her hair. “Dylan,” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the waves, “this place… it feels like a dream.” Dylan didn’t answer right away. Instead, he glanced at her, his dark eyes softening in the golden light of the sunset. He smiled, but it wasn’t the confident grin she was used to seeing. It was a quieter, more thoughtful smile, as though he was cherishing this moment just as much as she was. “It’s real, Lina,” he said, his voice low, steady. “And we’re here. Together.” There was a weight to those words that lingered in the air between them. It wasn’t just about the beauty of the Maldives or the luxury of the villa—it was about the connection they had, the bond that had been formed unexpectedly, yet fiercely. Lina smiled, feeling her chest tighten with emotion. She wanted to say something, something that would echo the tenderness she felt, but the words didn’t seem to come. Instead, she simply squeezed his hand, a silent affirmation of everything she felt. They continued walking, side by side, the waves washing over their feet as they moved forward together, not rushing, not speaking, just being. For a moment, it felt like the rest of the world didn’t exist.
