SELENE'S CONFESSION

1056 Words
"I'm in love with you, Ace." The night was too quiet for the two people. The moment Selene realized that Ace heard and saw everything, there was no other reason for her to hide her feelings anymore. She knew that would be the perfect time to tell Ace how she felt. Ace's silence made Selene long for more of his response. "I said, I'm in love with you, Ace." Ace looked down with a bitter smile. "It doesn't matter, Selene." "What?" "You and Zane are to be married soon. So, your feelings won't matter anymore," he added. Those words cut deep. Yet, she still didn't understand why Ace said those words. Ace walked closer to Selene and sat beside her. Selene looked at him with teary eyes. Her tears were only for the man she would marry, Ace, and not Zane. Even though it was dark, and she couldn't see enough of Ace, she knew that there was something in him that was in pain as well. Yet, she couldn't confirm anything since Ace never said a word about his feelings for her. Ace quietly stared at Selene for a moment and suddenly stood up. He was about to walk away from her when Selene suddenly spoke. "What about you, Ace? Don't you have any feelings for me?" Those words slipped out of Selene's mouth. She was too curious to know his real feelings for her. Ace stopped walking because of what she said. He remained standing for a while. Selene waited a moment, her heart pounding loudly, thinking about two possibilities. Then he finally spoke. "You are my friend. Nothing more..." Before she could say another word, Ace continued walking until he finally disappeared from Selene's sight. Those words kept repeating in Selene's head. So, all this time, Ace only looked at her as his friend, and nothing more. Selene scoffed bitterly after that. "Nothing more?" she whispered in disbelief. Selene tried to stand up, but her knees were too weak to do it. She suddenly felt drained because of what happened. After all those moments they shared, she was just a friend to him. She felt like being tricked. Her feelings were played upon. "How could I even have been so dumb?" She shook her head while tears were flowing from her eyes. After a few moments, Selene finally went back to the venue. It was the right time to announce her engagement with Zane. She sat beside Zane without a word. "Tonight, we are formally announcing the engagement and union of the Blackwell and Vale family through the life of our son, Zane Alexander Blackwell, and our future daughter-in-law, Selene Eloise Vale." The people started cheering for the future couple. Zane coldly lent his arm towards Selene. They went on stage facing a huge crowd. "Selene Eloise Vale, will you marry me?" Zane kneeled and brought out a diamond ring from his pocket. Selene stared at the ring coldly. Then, she looked at the crowd who were waiting for her response. She was trying to find Ace in the crowd, but she never saw him. Again, Ace's words repeated in her head. There's no hope for her right now. Ace left her with no choice. "Yes, I will marry you." Zane's expression suddenly changed after that. He didn't expect Selene to finally accept his proposal. It was never the one he expected her to do. "What are you waiting for?" Selene asked and waited for Zane to put the engagement ring on her finger. They finally faced the cheering crowd. Their parents were overjoyed to hear that finally they both accepted their fate. The end of the celebration has finally come. Selene requested to go home early since she was not feeling well. Zane was busy driving his way home when he suddenly received a message. "Let's meet." He smirked after reading the message. When he arrived at the meeting place, there he saw him leaning against his car, waiting for his arrival. "What do you want?" "Congratulations on your engagement." Ace coldly said and blew the smoke from his mouth. "Why did you do that?" Zane asked while looking at him. "What?" "Turning down Selene." Ace smirked. "So, you didn't leave for real. You were listening to our conversation." "Just answer my question, Lockwood." Zane started to boil. "Didn't you hear enough? Whatever you heard, that's it." Then, he looked at Zane with a smile. "So, you told me to come here just to tell me that? Such a waste of time." Zane was about to enter his car when Ace suddenly spoke. "Protect her with all your might. You don't know what will happen next." Zane didn't say a word and left Ace. Later that night, as Zane lay in his bed, he couldn't stop thinking about how Selene confessed her feelings towards Ace. All this time, he already knew that Selene had feelings for Ace, and he couldn't do anything about it. He's the mafia heir, but he couldn't stop Selene from loving his cousin. Hearing those words from her made him feel angry. He wanted to kill Ace because of being too close to her. He wanted to punch his face for turning her down. But what right did he have? Even though he was her fiancé, he knew that her feelings for him were never real. Those cold treatments that he received from Selene were the exact opposite to the treatments Ace had received from her. "I couldn't stand that girl because of her attitude towards me. She's really getting on my nerves." But there's another thing in his head. "I couldn't stand idly by seeing Ace getting closer to her." The next day, Selene was awakened by a sudden call from outside her room. "Selene, dear. Wake up!" It was her mother, Sandra, knocking at her door. "Open the door." Sandra demanded. Selene had no idea of what was going on. So, she just opened the door due to her mother's request. She could barely open her eyes when her mother faced her. She entered through the door with some of the maids. "What's going on?" She asked while watching all of them get her things. "The Blackwells sent a notice for you to stay in their residence from now on." Her eyes widened in shock. "What?"
