A business call woke Brian up earlier than usual and he found it unable to sleep again. Instead of wasting his time rolling on his bed, he headed for his in house gym and hopped on the treadmill. He spent about twenty minutes on the treadmill before doing three sets of fifteen push-ups. Checking his time, it was 6:38am, eight minutes past the time for his morning coffee. He went back into his room and met his coffee on his table courtesy of his manservant- winter. He took his coffee, got ready for work and decided to call Aurora. "Hi princess” Brian greeted. "Good morning” Aurora replied, "it’s quite early, you know?” Aurora added. "Yeah, I’m sorry. I just wanted to check up on you” Brian apologized. "It’s fine, I’m up already. I was about to order a taxi before your call came in” Aurora replied. "A taxi? Isn’t Brown taking you to work?” Brian asked prompting laughter from Aurora. "Really Brian? You been best friends with Brown your whole life and you don’t know what kind of a late sleeper he is?” Aurora teased. "Yeah , I know but I just thought he would make an exception with your car issues” Brian replied not pleased with his friend’s behavior. "You know what princess, I will come pick you up “ Brian offered. "Oh no! It’s fine, I can grab a cab besides our offices are in different areas” Aurora protested. "Don’t worry about that, I will be there soon” Brian insisted before hanging up. He instructed his driver to take him to brown’s house so he could take Aurora to work. Brian arrived at Brown's house in under thirty minutes and found Aurora waiting outside. "You look stunning, Princess," Brian said, opening the car door for her. Aurora smiled. "You don't have to do that every time, Brian." "Just being a gentleman," Brian replied. "What time do you close today?” He asked. "Why do you ask?” Aurora inquired. "So I could send david to pick you up” Brian replied and Aurora declined his offer. "Can we have lunch then?” Brian asked which Aurora also declined. "You don’t spend time with me anymore” Brian said, his tone hinting at longing. "I was with you yesterday and I’m with you now” Aurora replied. "Because I was at Brown’s place and also because I’m taking you to work. I mean just us going out, grabbing lunch or doing something fun” Brian explained. "Work keeps us busy” Aurora replied. "Yeah but you manage to make time for Brown” Brian whispered and Aurora rolled her eyes. "I miss you princess, you might be Brown’s finance but you are my friend too. Make time for me” Brian said and Aurora understood. She felt sorry about how she had been neglecting Brian, they all used to be best friends before she started dating Brown and now it looks like she doesn’t care about him as much as she used to which wasn’t true but she hasn’t found a way to balance her work life , relationship and her friendship. "I close at 5:00pm today, you can pick me up so we could have dinner before I go home” Aurora offered and Brian’s eyes lit up with joy. “Thank you princess. I will make the reservations now ” Brian replied. They continued chatting till they got to Aurora’s workplace and Brian was very excited about the rest of the day. Brian had an easy day at work courtesy of the dinner he had fixed his mind on. He kept glancing at his phone watching the time waiting for 5:00pm, at 4:12pm, he couldn’t wait any longer and instructed david to take him to Aurora. Brian had always had feelings for Aurora since their sixth grade but kept it to himself in order not to ruin their friendship. He summoned the courage to tell Aurora on her 16th birthday which was also the day Aurora announced that she and Brown were now in a relationship. Brian was crushed but he saw how happy they were together and didn’t want to ruin his friends happiness. He bottled up his feelings prioritizing his friends and has been keeping it a secret for years. Every relationship he tried over the years tend to fail because no lady made him feel the same way Aurora made him feel. He kept hoping for the day , he would be able to love someone else but the truth was he wasn’t opening his heart to try. He just wanted Aurora and she alone. "Let me guess, you got here before 5:00pm” Aurora said laughing when she picked Brian’s call. He had called her at exactly 5:00pm. "You know me so well princess” Brian replied laughing too. Aurora finished up her work on her laptop and went out to meet him. They exchanged pleasantries and headed for the restaurant where they were to have dinner. "This is too much Brian” Aurora gasped upon seeing how luxurious the place looked. "Nothing is too much for you princess” Brian replied holding her hand and leading her in. They were served their meals and ate it while reminiscing on the fun times they had shared in the past. They spent some much enjoying each other’s company and didn’t notice they spent two hours together. Aurora got worried about the time and prepared to leave, Brian offered to take her home and she accepted. When they got into his car, he handed her a beautiful bracelet with her name engraved on it. "Brian” Aurora whispered stunned. "Just tell me you love it” Brian requested. "I love it, I love it so much” Aurora replied, her eyes welling up. The only luxury gift she had received from brown was the engagement ring on her finger and she had a feeling Brian helped him pick it because Brown wouldn’t think of something that beautiful. Their conversation shifted to other things and when they got to brown’s place, Brian gave her a hug thanking her for her time and she thanked him again for the gift.
