"Explain the meaning of this” Brown demanded slamming some newspapers on the table in front of Aurora.
The caption read "New York most eligible bachelor now taken” and the picture on the newspaper were that of Aurora and Brian the day they had dinner.
"Publicity stunt” Aurora shrugged.
"Publicity stunt? You and Brian were practically kissing each other and you call it publicity stunt”brown replied his anger rising.
"You know no such thing happened, our faces were close but we wouldn’t do that” Aurora defended.
Brown knew Aurora was telling the truth, Brian would never do that to him.
"Yeah, besides you’re not even his type of girl” brown said and Aurora eyes widened.
"What do you mean by that?” she asked.
"Come on Aurora, Brian is like royalty. His kind of girls are rich, polished and sophisticated not girls like you” brown sneered and Aurora was hurt, she never thought he would hold her in such low regard.
"Wow! Thank you” she replied trying to mask her pain.
"You welcome, he also likes thick girls not slender looking girls like you” brown continued.
"Anything else?” Aurora asked and brown shook his head.
"If that’s all, can I work now?, I don’t have an inheritance waiting for me like you or Brian so I have to work” Aurora said and brown left her alone.
She pushed her head back to avoid her tears from streaming down her face.
His words cut deep. It hurt so badly that he thinks so lowly of her.
Aurora got up to open the door wishing that brown could spend longer out.
"Hi princess” Brian greeted upon seeing Aurora.
"Brown isn’t home” Aurora replied before walking away.
"I know, I came to see you. You weren’t taking my calls or responding to my messages” Brian replied.
"I was busy” Aurora answered briefly.
"Princess,are you mad at me? I’m sorry about those pictures but you know that wasn’t my intention” Brian said.
"I’m not mad at you, I’m just having a bad day”. Aurora replied.
"Glad I brought you food then, it’s your favorite. Double decker crispy chicken burger with extra cheese” Brian announced smiling and handed the bag to Aurora who appreciated him for his thoughtfulness.
They sat down to watch tv but Brian became uncomfortable with the silence between them.
"You looked really good on the paper though” Brian said and Aurora rolled her eyes.
"Is something wrong princess?” Brian asked.
"It’s actually weird people thought you are in a relationship with me” Aurora replied.
"Why would you say that?” Brian curiosity piqued.
"Clearly we don’t match, even brown said that” Aurora replied.
"Brown said what?” Brian asked, his expression turning serious.
"That I’m not your kind of girl because we are from different worlds and your type are rich sophisticated girls” Aurora explained and Brian rushed over to her hearing these things.
"You know that’s not true princess, brown always says the stupidest things when he’s hurt” Brian said holding Aurora’s hands.
"Which part is a lie? That you’re practically royalty or I don’t fit into your world?” Aurora asked still hurt by brown’s words.
"Both, you’re the best thing that has happened to me and you know that. You also know how much I care and value you. I will trade a million ladies for you my princess.” He assured her holding her gaze, "If there’s a world without princess, I don’t want to be part of it” he continued.
Their gaze held, their tension palpable.
They kept on staring at each other till the door swung open and brown came in.
"What’s going on here?” Brown asked observing the tense environment and Brian stood up to face him.
"Why did you say those hurtful words to Aurora?” Brian asked and brown was confused as to what he meant.
Brian explained everything Aurora told him and this prompted a laughter from brown.
"Come on man, I just told her the truth” brown defended.
"What stupid truth?” Brian asked irritated.
"Stop trying to ease her feelings, that’s all you do. that’s the reason she’s so spoilt because you continually indulge her and fill her head with nonsense” brown yelled.
"I treat her the way she deserves to be treated and you should learn a lesson or two from me“ Brian replied glaring at brown.
"The two of you should stop it already” Aurora pleaded.
"Shut up your mouth” brown yelled at her.
"Don’t you ever silence her again especially not in my presence” Brian warned.
"Or what? What you gonna do? Beat me up?” Brown asked.
“I did it before and I will gladly do it again” Brian threatened.
Brian and brown have been involved in a fist fight before when they were nineteen and Brian had beaten him to a pump, that was the day he found Aurora crying because brown had cheated on her.
"I double dare you “ brown said poking Brian who grabbed him by his collar.
Aurora tried to stop the both of them but brown pushed her which made her fall hard and passed out.
The two men froze, panic replacing anger. They rushed Aurora to the hospital in Brian's car, praying for her safety.
