Chapter 15

“Congratulations on your new engagement. You deserved it.” “Adam, it’s not what you think-----” Adam turned his back on her and said, “Apologies, my queen.” He turned back around and approached her. His eyes fixed on her like a lover to his beloved but that is beyond what Adam had in his mind. Mesmerized by the intensity of his stare, Hannah found herself lost in them. It was too late when she realized that her ring, which protected her from compulsion and any mind control, was gone. Hannah’s eyes grew wide but before she could say anything, Adam got hold of her mind and said, “Forget you’ve ever seen me today.” Smirking, Adam gently placed the ring back on and disappeared. Hannah blinked her eyes and frowned. Looking around at the familiar room of her soulmate, sadness washed over her. She misses him so much that she can almost feel his presence in the room – his aura – his scent. Everything about him. “Come back to me, Adam, and I will make you king.” She whispered to herself. Sighing, Hannah walked out of the room with a portion of her memory gone. ~~~~~~~ Micah woke up at the sound of loud music playing downstairs. Groaning, she walked out of the room to see what Trevor was up to. From the second floor, she saw him dancing to the music, enjoying himself so much. She rolled her eyes and went back to the room to get ready and change. As she descended downstairs, the music died down. She stopped halfway down the stairs. Taking one of her hidden daggers, she turned around and pointed it at Trevor’s throat. His eyes grew wide, then he smiled nervously. “Chill babe.” Raising an eyebrow, Micah took the dagger away. “What are you doing?” “I thought I'd give you a little scare, but it seemed to be a dangerous game.” Micah rolled her eyes at him and went to the kitchen to find herself something to eat. “Do you have anything other than blood?” Micah asked as she stood before the fridge. “You wound me, my dear. I may be a vampire, but I don’t mind tasting different delicacies.” “Considering that you’re a warlock, that must be the reason.” Micah replied, causing the room to fall into silence. “How did you know?” Trevor finally spoke. “I’ve been with Adam for quite some time, and I’ve encountered vampires in the city of the Lost, not to mention those phantom vampires. Therefore, I’m already familiar with a vampire’s aura which I faintly sensed from you.” Turning to face him, Micah continued, “Or should I say, I could sense half of a vampire aura from you and the other half is an aura that I’m most familiar with, a warlock.” “When we entered the house, I could already sense the barrier surrounding it and it grew stronger the moment Adam left. Only a witch or a warlock could do such things.” Trevor smiled. “I knew Adam wouldn’t settle for less.” At the mention of his name, Micah remembered what Adam said to her. Micah stared at Trevor, and he stared back, waiting for the questions he expected to hear from her, but nothing came. Micah sighed, drifting her eyes away from him. “Are you not going to ask me anything?” Trevor asked. Micah placed the pasta and the ingredients she found on the counter and said, “Why bother? I got the feeling you wouldn’t tell me anything. It is not your place to tell me anything so I guess I should wait for Adam to tell.” Trevor was amused by her. From the moment he met her, he knew that Micah was no ordinary girl, but right now she seemed to be more than that. “You come from the Kingdom of Magic, am I right, love?” Micah gave him a quick glance before turning her attention back to cooking. “In the Kingdom of Magic, men are called sorcerers whilst women are healers. I’m sure you’re the latter but your reflexes earlier tell me otherwise. It almost rivaled that of a vampire.” Trevor was watching her meticulously, observing her every move. “I am a healer, but women from our kingdom are no ordinary healers. Our powers do not limit to healing wounds and injuries. We have the power to manipulate the human body, enhancing its abilities to their maximum.” Trevor looked unconvinced by her answer. Thus, she continued, “Healers can enhance the strength and reflexes of any race. Human abilities can be enhanced but their maximum strength cannot be compared to mythics like us.” “I have a mortal body, but my maximum strength far exceeds that of a human. Which is why I could be as fast as a vampire.” Nodding his head, Trevor finally understood, but what he wanted to know was why she was running away and from whom. “Is that the reason why you’re running away? Because of your ability? Something tells me you're more than what you are now.” Warlocks and witches are known to be curious to everything around them, which is why it is no wonder why Trevor kept asking questions about her. “I am running away from my soulmate.” Trevor smirked upon hearing Micah’s reply. “Interesting. Why would you run away from the person that the Moon Goddess has blessed you with?” “It’s not a blessing, more like a curse.” Micah replied coldly. “Soulmates are drawn to each other. The moment they laid eyes on each other, the connection is inevitable; almost unbreakable.” “Almost. That means there’s a chance that it could be broken.” She turned her head to look at him and raised an eyebrow, waiting for Trevor to tell her the answer she wanted to hear. “You’re not planning to break your ties with your soulmate, right?” Micah's silence was enough to answer Trevor’s questions. Sighing, Trevor knew that was exactly what Micah wanted, but why? Most mythic are patiently waiting for the goddess’ blessing on a soulmate, but why would she want to break the bond? “Looking at you tells me that you know a way to break my tie with him. Tell me.” “Breaking the bond means going against the will of the goddess.” Trevor replied, staring at her intently. “I don’t care anymore.” Micah whispered to herself, but for a half-breed vampire like Trevor, it was a loud megaphone. “It is a heavy price to pay, love. You should think about it.” Glancing at him, Trevor gave her a quick shrug before leaving the room. Watching Trevor’s retreating figure, Micah knew that breaking the bond with Vincent was no easy feat. Sighing, Micah bit her lip at the sudden surge of pain in her temple. It has been going on since she left the Kingdom of Magic. She knew for sure that it had nothing to do with Vincent being her soulmate or her leaving the kingdom. “Something’s not right.” She whispered to herself. Shrugging at the thought, Micah turned her head from side to side when she heard a flowing river. That’s odd. Why is it so loud? Following the sound, Micah found herself standing in front of a waterfall. Looking back, she can no longer see Trevor’s house. She did not know she had walked that far from the house. “Why are you calling me?” Micah said as she bent her knees to touch the cold waters. “Save us.” Raising her head, she heard a voice just behind the waterfall, but she wasn’t sure anymore. There was obviously wrong with the place. Her instincts are telling her that there is nothing but danger in there, but a part of her cannot ignore what’s in front of her. Whether it was because of her magic or something else, one thing is sure, she wanted to know what was going on. “Sometimes ignorance is bliss, sweetheart.” Turning around, she saw Trevor standing not too far from the waterfall. “What are you doing here?” she asked, turning her attention back to what was in front of her. “You should fear the unknown, Micah. No one should disturb the balance of nature, or we shall incur its wrath.” He added. “Why fear the unknown when one can always uncover it? And if nature were to unleash its wrath, what makes you think I wouldn’t fight back?” Micah replied. “Micah---” “If there’s nothing else Trevor, you should leave.” Trevor wanted to protest, but there was no room for argument in Micah’s face. She is determined to uncover the secrets of Mystic Falls. Sighing, Trevor took Micah’s hand, placing a mark on her wrist. “I can’t let anything happen to you.” Micah smirked. “Why? Are you afraid that Adam might come for you?” “I just got the feeling that I must protect you. It’s not what you think, but something tells me you have an important role in the balance of nature.” Smirking, Micah replied, “Suit yourself.” She felt Trevor’s presence fading but the mark he placed on her wrist enabled her to call for his help if anything went wrong. Micah stepped closer to the edge of the waterfall, removed her slippers and dipping her feet into the water. Closing her eyes, she finds it odd that she cannot take control of the water beneath her. She walked further into the water until the water level was on her chest. Looking up at the falling water, Micah dived into the coolness of the water and swam but the water current got her. She finds herself spinning and the impact from the falling water was almost too much for her to handle. Micah lost consciousness as she struggled for breath and when she opened her eyes, she was met by darkness. Where am I? she thought. “Welcome to the realm of the hidden water.” Hearing a voice, Micah turned her head back, and slowly the room lit up. She found herself in a cave where the walls on each side were made of shiny rocks and there stood before her was an enchanting woman with sharp ears like that of an elf and pale skin. If she didn’t know better, she would think that the woman was a goddess. “Who are you? Were you the one calling me?” “Indeed I am.” The woman replied. “What do you want from me?” Micah asked. “We know who and what you are. You are the only one who can help us.” She replied as she turned her back on her and walked further into the cave. Turning back, the woman said, “Come. You will find all the answers you seek.” ~~~~~~~~~~~ “Where did you say she was?” Adam asked through gritted teeth. “You know I couldn’t stop her even if I tried and if I did, I'd end up dead, but I did leave her a mark so she could call me for help.” Trevor explained. When he arrived home, Adam had just arrived, and sensing that Micah was nowhere to be found, Adam got furious. “You better pray she’s okay, Trevor because I will not hesitate to throw you back to the kingdom of Dracula.” Trevor thought of a humorous reply, but seeing the look on Adam’s face made him think otherwise, as he still valued his life. “You said Micah is a capable woman. I know she wouldn’t put herself in such danger and I got the sense that she’s no ordinary healer.” Trevor replied. A sudden presence within the vicinity caught their attention. Judging from the aura, Trevor knew that they were sorcerers. Glancing at each other, Trevor stood from the couch to welcome the visitor as they pushed the doorbell. Opening the door, he was met by a group of five sorcerers and more of them were hiding not too far from the house. “What can I do for you gentlemen? I must say that I wasn’t expecting a group of sorcerers to visit me.” Trevor said in greeting. The man standing in front of the group smiled and said, “We are not here to chat, vampire. Someone told us that a young woman is staying here with you. Do not deny it.” “I am not denying anything but------” “She’s not here.” Adam stepped out of the house and stared down at the man before him. “We have to decide on that matter.” The sorcerer replied. From the corner of his eyes, Adam senses an attack coming out of nowhere. Unbothered by the sudden attack, he moved his head to the side to dodge the arrow of fire directed towards him. “Where is she?” Vincent came out of hiding and walked closer to Adam. “You took her.” “She came with me.” Adam replied. “Why would Micah ever be with a vampire? Your despicable species killed her grandmother—” “What does it have to do with me?”
