“You are my erasthai.”
Micah frowned. She never heard the word before. “What does that mean?”
Smiling, Adam leaned in closer to her and whispered, “Let’s save that conversation for later.” Micah froze when she felt Adam’s lips on the crook of her neck.
He pulled back with a wide grin on his face. Micah touched the area he just kissed with eyes wide. “You blood-sucking pervert.”
Adam shrugged his shoulders before laying on the bed with his hands behind his head. Micah watched her closely. “I thought you said vampires don’t sleep at night?”
“We don’t, but we do love to try.” He replied, opening his eyes to meet her gaze. “Unless you got other things that would keep me up all night?”
Micah rolled her eyes at him. “Keep dreaming, sir.”
“I will.”
Shaking her head Micah lay on her side of the bed and turn her back on him. In the back of her mind, she can feel him looking at her. Sighing, Micah thought about the word erasthai. She never heard the word before, but it can’t possibly mean soulmates because she had already met him.
Then, what does it mean?
Micah’s mind was filled with the word as she drifted to sleep while Adam watched her shoulders move as she breathed. The sound of her breathing felt like music to his ears but there are still things that he needed to confirm.
~~~~~~~~
As Micah opened her eyes, there was darkness. She looked around and realized she was in a room at Trevor’s place. Sighing, she turned to the side and saw Adam in a deep slumber.
Watching him made her wonder whether he was speaking the truth about vampires sleeping during the day and awake at night. Because looking at him now, she can’t help but stare at his perfection. He was barely breathing yet watching him takes her breath away. Micah reached out her hand to touch his face, but she stopped midway. Biting her lip, she pulled her hand back and sighed.
I am his erasthai. What does it even mean? Micah thought. She stood from the bed and walked to the window with her arms crossed.
From the beginning, she didn’t want to feel attached. Just because they were traveling together doesn’t mean there was something going on between them or so she thought but she can’t deny the fact that there was an inexplicable connection between them. Is it the about the erasthai he spoke of? Micah was filled with confusion and questions. When she said those words to him, “I can wait centuries for you….Adam” it wasn’t out of pretense. Deep in her heart, she knew she meant every word, but why?
She felt drawn to him, yet he is not her soulmate. Micah stared at the dark sky outside her window and thought, “If I were to choose, I’d choose Adam over Vincent. I’ve known Vincent for too long that I know every little thing that’s in his mind.”
Micah knew that Vincent was never in love with her; rather, he was obsessed with her. She witnessed what his obsession pushed him to do. Micah squeezed her eyes shut, closed her hand to a tight fist, and gritted her teeth as she remembered how far Vincent’s obsession had led. And now, he is her soulmate?
How could I ever accept that?
Micah gasped silently when she felt something in the air that brought shivers to her body. Leaning in closer to the window to scan the area, Micah saw nothing out of the ordinary. But for some reason, she can feel Vincent’s presence.
“Micah.” she turned her body around with a spike of water in her hand, intended for an attack but he caught her wrist. “It’s me, little bug.”
Relief washed over her upon hearing his voice. Sighing, Micah calmed her racing heart. Adam held her hand and pulled her closer to the bed. Micah sat on the edge of the bed as Adam turned on the lamp. “You’re sweating. What happened?”
“Nothing. It was nothing.” she accepted the glass of water from him. She can still feel his gaze on her. Looking up, Micah met his eyes and said, “I felt Vincent’s presence around here.”
“Your soulmate.” Silently, Micah nodded her head. The thought of Micah’s soulmates brought nothing but anger to Adam. He wanted to end the bastard’s existence and he will. Goddess be damned.
“He’s tracking you, angel. With the help of a witch.”
“……..and the presence that I felt must’ve meant that he succeeded.” Micah concluded.
“You must’ve been thinking about him.” Taking the glass from her hand, he turned his back on her and left the room. Reaching the kitchen in no time, Adam held the glass tight, and it broke in his hand. He watched as the pieces of broken glass wounded his skin and healed a second later.
It took quite some time before Adam walked back into their room. There was a deep frown on his face as he approached her.
“I will leave in the morning. I’ll be back before your soulmate comes here. In the meantime you are safe. I’ve made sure of it.” The smirk on his face at the end made Micah raise an eyebrow.
“You threatened him. There’s no need for that. I can protect myself---”
“I did not threaten him. He would still protect you so there is no need for that, and I know you can protect yourself.” Adam interrupted.
“Where are you going?” Micah knew that it was none of her business but she was still hoping he would tell her and even if she were to keep that question to herself, Adam would still hear it so why bother?
“I’ll be investigating; that’s all I got to tell you.” Micah nodded her head in understanding. The vampire assassins said that he was a criminal, but Micah knew that he was not.
“If you feel bored do whatever you want. If Trevor tries anything, feel free to do what you see fit.” Micah raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t he a friend of yours?”
“For centuries, yes, but I will not be held accountable for the consequences of his actions. You should go back to sleep.” Micah thought he was going to leave but to her surprise when Adam gently placed his hand over her head and down to cup her face, stroking her cheeks with his thumb.
At that moment, as they looked into each other’s eyes, it made her wish she could read his mind too, but that would be impossible. Micah blinked her eyes and backed away. Taking his hand back, Adam cleared his throat and said, “Don’t go too far from the house. There are werewolf territories here. Werewolves and their stupid territorial claims.”
Adam was hesitating to leave but he must. “I have to go before the sun’s up.”
“But we’ve been traveling day and night—”
“I won’t be using my car, angel. Now, back to sleep.”
~~~~~~~
Adam watched her as she slept. She looked so peaceful as she breathed air into her lungs. He can hear the blood rushing through her veins and the beating of her heart. It was calming.
Walking out of the room, he saw Trevor standing at the bottom of the stairs. “She doesn’t know, doesn’t she?”
“Keep your mouth shut if you wish to stay alive.” Trevor smirked. “What about your soulmate? Hannah? Now that your brother is dead, she has no one.”
“I don’t care.”
“I know you don’t, but she will surely come after you, especially now that she’s no longer torn between you and Robert. You are the sole heir to the throne which always had been.” Trevor added. He raised an eyebrow as Adam stood before him, waiting for his reply.
“If you dare speak about Hannah to her, I will tear you apart.” Sighing, Trevor chuckled. “I’ve lived through your threats old friend, but I know not to take them for a joke.”
“What? You’re leaving? Just like that?” Adam stopped as he was to open the door. Frowning he turned his head to look at Trevor. “You’re not going to tell me to protect her? To keep her safe. After all, she’s your erasthai,”
“I don’t need you to protect her. She can manage that on her own.”
Leaving Trevor’s place, Adam ran towards the forest, avoiding the territories of the werewolf pack around the area. The current ruler of the six kingdoms marked areas that no mythic could claim as their own. In doing so, every mythic can travel through these areas without trespassing mythical territories. Territorial claims used to be one of the causes of feuds among mythic especially werewolves as they take their claims to the bone, but the High King and Queen found a solution to this unending feud.
After traveling for hours, Adam reached the southern border of the Kingdom of Dracula. The sun was at its highest peak and the heat was hurting his eyes despite the sunglasses he was wearing. With one last sprint, Adam reached the southern village of the kingdom. He went straight to one of the houses he owned in the village. Removing his sunglasses, Adam sighed at the darkness of the room.
“What are you doing here?” a familiar voice greeted him.
“Good afternoon, Luella.” Adam greeted as he took a seat on one of the wooden chairs.
“You shouldn’t have returned, Adam. The king was searching for you, and he was punishing anyone who dared speak your name. If he hears you’re back-----”
“What did he do?” Adam asked his voice getting darker.
“I—”
“Tell me, Luella.”
“I---I heard the king captured and tortured those who favored you. I heard some w—were k—killed.” The woman hesitated. Adam knew this was going to happen, but he cannot forgive the fact that his father would harm innocent vampires just to-----
“Banishment was never enough.” Adam whispered to himself.
“Where are you going? The sun is up. It’s dangerous for you to be roaming around, it’s dangerous for you here, Adam.” Turning his head, Adam had a stern look on his face before leaving the village in a flash.
Ignoring the throbbing pain from the sunlight, Adam went straight to the secret passage of the castle he found long ago. The tunnel lead to the west wing where his chamber was located. Adam climbed up to his chambers in a flash, gently locking the door behind him.
Looking around the room, Adam frowned. The place was a mess. His things were all over the place as if they were looking for something. Smirking, Adam tapped his foot on a tile and a door opened. Adam sensed a presence approaching. Closing the door, he waited for the person to arrive, not afraid of what might happen.
~~~~~~~~~
Hannah bit her lip as she slipped on her robe. “You will bear me a son and once you do, I will make you, my queen.”
The king left the room leaving Hannah disgusted with herself. Yes, she always wanted to be queen. She turned her back on Adam and chose Robert just so she could be queen but now that Robert is dead and Adam was banished, she is simply holding on to a single thread.
“Adam come back.” Hannah silently prayed. If Adam comes back and claims the throne, she will hold on to him tight. Shaking her head, Hannah went to her room to get dressed but as she passed by the halls, she could sense the stares and hear the whispers of the staff in the castle.
“I thought Adam would be the next king with Robert dead. I thought I could finally make it happen with him, but I never thought the king would banish him from the kingdom. I must find a way to bring him back. I am his soulmate. Adam will come back for me.”
Sighing, Hannah lifted her head and realized that her feet brought her to Adam’s chambers at the west wing. She reached for the doorknob but stopped midway through when she sensed a presence inside the room. A part of her was hoping that it was Adam who finally came back for her to claim the throne and make her his queen.
Hannah bit her lip to contain her excitement as she opened the door. She entered the room and saw the man she’s been dying to come. A huge smile appeared on her lips as she set eyes on her soulmate.
“Adam. I knew you would come back for me.” she said in a broken voice, her eyes on brink of tears.
Adam snorted. “Such delusions.” Hannah frowned taken aback by Adam’s treatment. “Adam----”
“Congratulations on your new engagement. You deserved it.”
