Chapter 10

“Sh*t.” Micah knocked on his window and he opened it. “Please you got to let me in. Just take me away from here.” He didn’t answer. Micah found it strange that he was just staring at her like an unsolved puzzle. “If you leave, there’s no turning back.” The man said. He stared at her intently, almost challenging, but Micah had made up her mind. She was ready to leave long ago and now, given the situation, she knew that this was the right time. “I’ve always wanted to leave, and I never plan on coming back.” Turning away, he started the engine. Micah sighed in frustration. She could easily sneak into his car or use her magic to escape, but she cannot afford to let anyone see her power. Not yet. “Get in, angel.” Hearing him speak made Micah frown. “What did you just call me?” “Do you want it or not?” Micah blinked her eyes when he suddenly stepped on the gas--- “Wait.” She circled around and hopped into the passenger’s seat and as she closed the car door, she came eye to eye with Vincent standing at a distance. Micah leaned in closer to the stranger and whispered, “Hey-----” To her surprise, he pulled her in and pressed his lips to her. It was something that she was planning to do but did not expect to happen. Micah wondered if he could read minds and if he did, then she was screwed. She can’t think carelessly with him around. The man gently pulled away and Micah smiled awkwardly. Micah blinked her eyes when he leaned in closer to her, giving her a soft gentle kiss on her forehead. The man turned his head to look at Vincent, who stood there frozen and in pain from the sight of his soulmate with another man. Vincent shook his head, telling Micah not to leave, but she was determined. Giving Micah a quick glance, the man stepped into the gas and sped off. As they passed by the phantom forest, Micah saw the queen standing there with a smile on her face. Micah looked at her apologetically, but the queen returned her with a smile, waving her hand as they drove farther away from the kingdom. Turning her head to the driver’s seat, his face looked so calm as if he had not just stolen a kiss from her. Micah felt conflicted as she felt embarrassed more than ever, yet she admitted that it was quite good if not great. She'd never been with any man before, but she did have a few drunken affairs, but nothing came close to what she just shared with the stranger beside her. “Do not abuse my kindness, little bug. There won’t be a second time.” Micah gasped when she heard him speak. Micah gritted her teeth, giving him a glare. “Stop doing that.” “I’m not doing anything.” He denied it, but Micah knew that he was reading her mind and she was not a bit happy about it. Micah shifted to her seat and stared at the road ahead. “Whatever you say, sir, I’m not buying sh*t.” At the corner of her eyes, Micah saw him smirk. He does read minds but there are only a few mythic who have that ability and vampires are one of them. Micah raised an eyebrow as she finally realized. Turning her head to the driver's seat, she stared at him. He’s a vampire. Micah thought. Frowning, the man turned his head, meeting her gaze. Micah blinked her eyes and looked away, focusing her attention on the road. As she sits silently on the passenger seat, she raised her hand and touched her lips with the tip of her fingers. “I am sitting beside a vampire and f*** k me---I’ve kissed this vampire. Goddamn it.” Micah squeezed her eyes shut and bit her lip. She felt utterly embarrassed about her shameless actions. Even though it was never intentional---kind of---but…sighing, Micah gave up on her own thoughts. No matter what defense she could think of, she can’t justify her actions. She remembered the blood on the road, and it made her look at him again. He had a blank look on his face in deep thought. “Why did you kill them?” Turning his head to meet her burrowed face, the man held a frown as he looked at her. “I don’t think I know what you’re talking about.” “Oh, I’m sure you do.” Micah rebutted. She may not have the ability to read minds, but she can tell when someone is lying and right now that’s what this stranger is doing. “Unlike you, I can’t read minds, Mr. Stranger, but I always know a lie when I hear one.” The man chuckled arrogantly. “I am no stranger. I do have a name. It’s Adam. And one more thing…….” His eyes were fixed on her, and Micah was not afraid to stare back at him. The air started to get heavier; it was intimidating, but not to her. He may be one of the undead, but it takes more than that to intimidate her. Even though Micah is sitting in a stranger’s car, a vampire mythic at that, strangely enough, her instincts are not screaming for danger. In fact, she felt rather secure and at ease. “…….one more word and you’re out of this car.” Adam continued venomously. Micah rolled her eyes at his sudden outburst. If he is trying to scare her, then he has got to do better than that. He may be a vampire, but she is the mistress of the waters. “You can drop me off at the nearest city.” Adam didn’t say a word. He stared at the road ahead with his poker face, which made Micah wonder whether all vampires are like him. Bipolar with a little anger management issue. She remembered the vampires from the movies and TV series she watched and none of them were like him. From the Vampire Diaries, Twilight series, Dracula: Untold, Van Helsing, and all vampire-related movies that have ever been filmed in history, she watched them all. They wouldn’t be filming them without extensive research, right? Micah thought to herself and glancing at the driver’s seat, she frowned when she saw him trying to stifle his laugh despite the stoic look on his face. Tsk. He’s laughing at me. Micah rolled her eyes at him and shifted on her seat irritated. “City of the Lost.” “What?” giving her a quick glance, he added, “You said the next city.” “I know, but the City of the Lost is a five-hour drive. Are you sure there are no towns or a small human civilization nearby?” Shrugging his shoulders, he replied, “You said the nearest city.” Micah bit her lip to control her anger. The guy was getting on her nerves and to spend two hours more with him would but be utter hell for her. “Drop me off to the nearest civilization, then.” “If you say so.” Micah rolled her eyes at him and turned her head to the window. As they drove by, Micah frowned when she felt someone else’s presence on either side of the road; following them as they moved. Vampires, Lycans, and werewolves are the only mythic who can match the speed of a moving car, but based on the aura she sensed, Micah knew that they were being followed by vampires. She rested her head on the passenger’s seat. There was nothing but silence between them; no one said a word until she heard the car stereo playing. Adam turned the volume so high that it was almost deafening. Frowning, Micah turned her head to look at him and asked, although unsure if he could hear her. “What are you doing?” Adam did not say anything but, with a vampire’s heightened senses, she knew he heard her despite the loud music playing in the car. “We are being followed, little bug.” Micah frowned when she heard his voice, yet his mouth was not moving. She realized that he must have communicated with her telepathically, which she figured a normal vampire couldn’t do. “I’m stopping the car.” She heard him say again. “Are you sure it is wise to do so?” Micah asked, making him glance at her. “What better way to get rid of pests is to kill them.” Adam pulled the car over and stared ahead. Micah looked the same way, and she blinked her eyes when she saw a group of creatures she hadn’t seen before. These creatures are vampires, but something tells her that they are more than that; they are of a different kind. “What are they?” Micah whispered; her eyes fixed on the creatures before her. “Phantom vampires.” Giving her a quick glance, he added, “Stay here.” Adam got out of the driver’s seat and stood in front of the car. Micah was silently observing them as they had a conversation she couldn’t quite hear. She inhaled sharply when the creatures started snarling and that’s when she saw their fangs like those of a vampire but longer and with eyes as red as blood. Micah raised an eyebrow when Adam turned his head in her direction. As the car was tinted, she cannot say for sure, but it seemed like he was staring right into her eyes before turning his attention back to the creatures he called phantom vampires. The phantom vampires were being cautious. None of them dared to make the first move as their instincts were telling them that if they made a careless move, Adam wouldn’t hesitate to kill them. They outnumbered him, yet despite that advantage, they are still unmatched. The phantom vampire took a step back and looked past Adam where Micah was silently sitting in the car. Adam took a step to the side. He knew they were planning to attack her first because they couldn't win against him. The second the phantom made a move, Adam was quick to follow them. Micah frowned when they suddenly disappeared, but she could sense them nearby. She remembered Adam telling her to stay, but when did she ever follow orders? Micah stepped out of the car and rolled over to the side when she sensed something approaching. Raising an eyebrow, she barely saw how Adam was thrown from a distance, his car wrecked, and was pushed out of the road. “I told you to stay.” “I’m not a dog and I would’ve died if I did. Are you stupid?” Micah replied. Adam glared at her, and she raised an eyebrow, giving him a challenging look. “Damn it.” Sensing the phantom vampires, Adam carried her into his arms, taking Micah by surprise. Micah barely knew what had happened. The next thing she knew, Adam was standing in the forest surrounded by phantom vampires with her in his arms. The phantom vampires were snarling and growling at them like a predator to their prey. “Put me down, sir. I can fight.” Adam looked at her with a deep frown on his forehead before putting her down on the ground without a second thought. “Watch out for yourself. I wouldn’t save you the second time.” Micah scoffed. “I never asked you to save me. You’re no knight in shining armor and I am not a damsel in distress. We are not in a f***ing fairy tale.” Adam frowned, but at the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but feel amused by her. She’s got a sharp tongue and she’s tenacious. Giving her a quick glance, Adam thought, let’s see what you can do, angel. Micah used body manipulation to strengthen her senses in order to counter a vampire attack. Despite her body manipulation, she knew she couldn't match the speed of a vampire, but it would help her dodge their attacks as they came. One phantom vampire moved at an incredible speed. With its sharp claws, it tried to claw Micah, but she was able to back away. The phantom turned his body in her direction, snarling like a hungry predator. It started attacking her, and Micah did her best to block and dodge its attack. Micah knew that their movement was still faster compared to hers. She’s almost a second too late to react to their attacks. Facing these monster-like vampires made Micah realize how naïve she was to believe in those vampire movies. They were nothing compared to what she was facing right now. Alright. I have accepted the fact that not all vampires are good-looking compared to Edward Cullen or Damon Salvatore, but do their bodies shine like diamonds under the sun? Micah thought. Adam heard her thoughts loud and clear. Shaking his head, Adam held the urge to laugh at her thoughts. “Goddess woman, stop it.” Irritation was evident in Adam’s voice, and it made Micah roll her eyes at him. “If you stop getting into someone else’s head, it will save you from your misery.” Adam smirked and watched as Micah focused her attention on the enemy before her. “All that talk and that’s all you can do.” Micah gritted her teeth, annoyed. “Oh, shut up.” Increasing the power of her arms, she punched the phantom under its chin, followed by a spin, hitting the side of its head with her elbow. “Not bad, but have you killed it?” Kicking a fallen branch, Micah caught it in mid-air and snapped it into two, stabbing the phantom’s chest with its pointy end. She lets her magic element flow into the branch to get hold of its heart, pulling it out along with the stick. Turning her head, she met Adam’s gaze and a smirk was playing on his lips. Micah raised an eyebrow and said, “What are you looking at?” Micah saw a phantom attacking Adam so she tossed the stick to him, which he caught easily, stabbing the phantom from behind with his eyes fixed on her. Tsk. The nerve. Micah thought, rolling her eyes at him. “She’s close.” “Are you sure it’s her?” “It’s faint but I can sense her aura around here.” Looking back, Micah gasped when she heard faint whispers. They’re getting close. Micah looked up to see Adam staring at her. Looking around, she saw the phantom’s lifeless body on the ground. Adam was watching silently. Micah stared back at him, and she knew he was reading her thoughts. Thank you for taking me this far. I’m afraid I must go. I don’t want to cause you any more trouble. Micah thought. She didn’t mean to sound insincere, but she was grateful that Adam took her this far. Although she did not expect them to follow her still, she must face this on her own. No one said it would be an easy escape. Giving him one last look, Micah turned around and walked in the opposite direction. “We will see each other again, little bug.” “It’s Micah.” “I know.” Micah looked back, but he was no longer there. Sighing, Micah continued walking to where her pursuers were. Sensing their presence close, Micah stopped walking and waited for them to appear. “Lady Micah,” said one of the sorcerers. “Please come with us.” the other sorcerer seconded. Micah raised an eyebrow as she replied, “If I refuse?” “Then you’re leaving us no choice but to use force. We know that you specialize in weapons and combat, but you are no match if we use our powers against you.” “We do not wish to harm you, but young master Vincent and your father are on their way. Please come with us silently.” Says the other. There are three of them and they are earth element sorcerers. Earth sorcerers are best at tracking, but it was Micah’s powers that told her of their element. Micah planned on fighting them with her body manipulation as she couldn’t let anyone from the Kingdom of Magic know that she was the water guardian. It would only fuel her family’s hunger for pride, honor, and power. Watching the enemy before her, Micah knew that if she ran, they would use their magic on her, but that didn’t mean they had the upper hand. “Micah.” Micah cursed upon hearing her father’s voice. She took a step back as they took a step forward. “Micah, please.” Now, Vincent appeared with a look of distress on his face. “Micah, why did you leave? The goddess destined us to be together. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?” “Micah, I know it was unexpected, but I love you. If we weren’t soulmates, I would still want to be with you. I will reject my soulmate for you.” “Stop.” Micah glared at him. If it wasn’t because of his desperate attempts to have her, then she might have accepted him as her soulmate, but he ruined everything the moment he forced himself on her. The memory of his assault came back to memory, and it only fueled Micah’s anger towards him. “You’re right. I’ve always wanted a soulmate but that was until I knew it was you. I don’t want to be with you. I’d be with anyone but you.” Micah added venomously. “We are destined to be together, Micah. You cannot escape our fate.” Vincent argued, his voice louder than before. “Say what you want but I will never go back.” Micah replied. “THAT IS ENOUGH MICAH. You will return with us and marry Vincent.” Mr. Clark stood between Vincent and Micah. Taking a step back away from him, Mr. Clark grabbed Micah’s arm, pulling her to him. “Let go of me.” Grabbing her father’s arm, Micah weakened his body by draining him of his strength. His grip on her arm loosens, giving her the opportunity to pull her arm back and run. But a wall of hard soil blocked her path. Micah gritted her teeth and turned around to face them. Altering her strength to its maximum, she punched the ground, causing an earthquake. Micah blinked her eyes, surprised by her own strength. What the hell? I never knew I could do that. Micah thought. Vincent and his companion were dumbfounded, and this gave Micah the chance to run, but Vincent was quick to react. He used his element of fire to trap Micah inside a ring of fire. Micah gritted her teeth and turned around to face a smirking Vincent. But oddly enough, she cannot feel the heat from the fires that surround her. It must be because of my magic element. Micah concluded. “I don’t want to do this, Micah, but you’re leaving me no choice,” said Vincent, as he took a step closer to where Micah was stranded. Micah raised an eyebrow and that’s when Vincent manipulated the fire, closing the space above her head, completely trapping her inside. Micah’s battling with herself whether to use her element or not, but given the situation, she’s left with no other option. Placing her palm on the ground, she closed her eyes and pictured herself like water. She lets her powers flow through every vein in her body. Micah felt the coolness of her skin. Her entire body felt like it was flowing endlessly. Micah’s body turned to water and through the ground, she escaped. Vincent walked closer to the fire and opened a small opening to capture Micah, but she was no longer there. The fire disappeared and Vincent closed his eyes to feel her presence, but he could feel her no more. What did you do, Micah? Vincent wondered how she escaped from him. He always knew Micah was a talented healer and fighter, but he was sure that he had her trapped. “Where is she, Vincent?” Mr. Clark asked, standing behind Vincent. “She escaped but I will find her; without fail, I will.” ~~~~~~~~ Micah continued to flow through the ground until she felt their presence fading. The water gathered around, slowly forming into a human body, Micah’s body. When she finally came back to her human form, Micah looked around and smiled victoriously. But her smile faded when she realized that her things were in Adam’s car. She doesn’t have her wallet with her. She’s literally broke. Micah wanted to go back but Vincent and the others might still be around. There’s nothing I could do but wait. Micah thought, sighing. “Done running?”
