Chapter 11

3902 Words
From a distance, Adam was watching her. She looked tough, wise, and fierce, yet her curiosity about vampires is what makes her amusing. Dead bodies of vampire knights are on the ground. Adam knew that someone from the castle wanted him dead but that was a mission impossible. He crossed his arms and leaned on the tree trunk as he stood on the top branch. “THAT IS ENOUGH MICAH. You will return with us and marry Vincent.” Despite the stoic look on Adam’s face, he wondered why Micah was running away from the person she had always wanted. Waited. Soulmate huh? What are they for? Adam thought. “Let go of me.” Adam smirked upon seeing Micah’s abilities. She’s able to weaken her father through her power of body manipulation, but what makes her terrifying was that it was only a fragment of her abilities. She mastered body manipulation beyond its maximum. More than anyone else, she understood her powers. Adam gritted his teeth as he watched her trapped inside a wall of fire. Closing the space above her head, her soulmate smirked. Her soulmate was planning to torture her once he had her, but she was no longer there. Adam frowned as he could no longer feel her presence nor hear her thoughts. She just disappeared. Where is she? Adam thought. The rustling sound of leaves made him look down. Vampire knights. Jumping off the tree, Adam cursed. Damn it, angel. This is a bad time to play hide and seek. Adam felt the presence of the vampire knights, but fighting them was not his priority right now. Using his vampire speed, Adam had his eyes out for Micah. It would be dangerous for her alone. She had never met a vampire before and even if she could perfectly defend herself, the idea of her alone didn’t sit quite well with Adam. The phantom vampires saw her, and their sense of smell was stronger than a normal vampire. The scent of Micah’s blood caught their attention, and they wouldn’t stop until they got a taste of her. As for the vampire knights, during the fight with the phantom, they saw Adam with her. Therefore, she’s been marked as well. Adam caught the scent of water and, for some reason, it reminded him of her. Following the scent, he saw Micah, standing by the tree. Sighing, Adam crossed his arms and leaned his body on the tree, watching her. She had a frown on her face as she remembered the belongings she left in Adam’s car. Giving her one last glance, Adam ran back to his car to get her belongings, but along the way, he came across the vampire knights. “Follow him.” They followed Adam and when he stopped, they were ever so cautious in every move they made. Adam did not acquire any title within the vampire soldiers but that doesn’t mean he’s weak. In fact, he is the strongest vampire there is, but due to his lack of responsibility and absence during training, he was only made part of the night patrol in the Kingdom of Dracula. But vampires from the kingdom know this. Prince Adam is the strongest vampire in the Kingdom of Dracula. “Was banishing me not enough?” Adam stared at the vampire knights, and they took a step back. “It’s nothing personal, Prince Adam. We were under the orders of----“ the vampire knight started coughing blood, clutching his chest, and gasping for air to relieve the pain, but it didn’t take long before he met his end. His comrades weren’t expecting his death. They turned in Adam’s direction nervously, eyeing him with suspicion. “You can either die with my hands or die by breaking a blood contract. Your choice.” Sighing, Adam snapped their necks in a matter of seconds and left with Micah’s bag in his hands. When he came back, Micah was still standing by the tree, waiting for the right moment to go back to Adam’s car to get her belongings. Adam stepped out of the shadows and said, “Done running?” Micah turned around when she heard a voice behind her. Through the light of the moon, she saw the familiar face of Adam. Sighing, she felt relieved that it wasn’t Vincent or any of her pursuers. “What are you doing here?” Micah asked. “I never said I was leaving.” Adam replied. He stood there staring at her and she stared back, frowning until, finally, he said, “We have to go.” “What?” Micah gasped when he suddenly picked her up. She didn’t know what happened next. Everything was so fast that she had no idea whether Adam was running or walking, but she knew one thing, before they left, there was someone else around. Micah opened her eyes when she felt him stop. “What is this place?” They stopped at what looked like an abandoned factory. “Garage.” Micah raised an eyebrow as she followed him inside until her eyes landed on the red bag Adam was carrying. “Is that my bag?” “You’re welcome.” Micah rolled her eyes at him as he handed her the bag. “No one asked you to get it.” Micah whispered intentionally, for she knew he would still hear it. Giving her a quick glance with a frown on his face, Adam uncovered a black pick-up. Micah frowned, wondering how come the car wasn’t stolen, and judging from all the dust and the car model, she could tell that it had been there for quite some time. “Get in.” Adam ordered. Micah narrowed her eyes at him in suspicion. “What are you trying to do?” Adam raised an eyebrow at her. “I don’t want to cause you any more trouble and I don’t find it comforting traveling with someone who can read and manipulate minds.” “What makes you think I possess such abilities?” “I’m no fool and I’m quite observant.” Micah replied. Nodding his head, Adam replied, “I let you into my car to take you to the nearest human civilization and that’s it.” Micah didn’t budge. She stood there eyeing him like a criminal. He didn’t mind that look on other people’s faces, but with her, looking at him like that, he didn’t like it. “You could always refuse. Once I decide to help someone, I don’t half-assed things.” Micah smiled. It was a smile that he did not expect. Frowning, Adam asked, “What are you smiling about?” “You’ve spoken more than twenty words. That was the longest thing you’ve ever said to me since we met, and that is saying something.” Micah replied, then she hopped onto the passenger seat, throwing her bag on the back seat. Adam was watching her closely, wondering what she was thinking. “Step on it, sir, if you don’t have any pursuers to find us.” Adam started the car engine and once again they started their journey. It has been one hell of a night for Micah. From the engagement party to Vincent, meeting Adam, the phantom vampire, and escaping Vincent, it was one bumpy ride. Micah turned her head to the window as she sat comfortably in the passenger’s seat. “Adam.” Hearing his name coming out of her lips caught Adam by surprise. The sound of his name coming from her sounded like that of an angel. You are my angel. Adam thought, hiding his smile. “You’re like a devil in disguise.” Micah didn’t expect those words to come out. It was just a thought, but if he can read minds, then there’s no point keeping her thoughts to herself when she’s with him. “Am I supposed to be offended?” Adam asked, sounding amused. “No, maybe. I don’t know. You tell me.” “Can I take a rest? Surely, you wouldn’t take me to a secluded place and suck me dry? That is all up to you though. If you’re wondering, I’m just speaking my mind. There’s no point hiding them if you can easily read them. Did I mention that I was a top student in our year? I’m smarter than anyone else combined. I’m going to sleep now.” with one last sigh, Micah closed her eyes and fell asleep right away. Turning his head to the passenger seat, Adam felt her exhaustion, physically and mentally. But as he spends more time with her, he finds her interesting more than ever. From the first time he saw her at the mall, he knew there was something about her. He was drawn to her more than he ever was with Hannah, and she was supposed to be his soulmate that the goddess blessed him with. Adam came to the Kingdom of Magic to see her from afar as he couldn’t be with her; not yet. But for some reason, she found her way to him, and he found his way to hers. They’ve only just met and if he tells her what she is to him, he’s afraid that Micah might distance herself from him. He cannot allow it, not now. ~~~~~~~~ When Micah opened her eyes, she could see the lights of the City of Lost. Frowning, she wondered how they reached the city so fast. It was supposed to be a five-hour drive, and on the way, there were small towns and villages. “I thought you were going to drop me off at the nearest human civilization.” Micah said as they entered the city. “I’ve decided to drop you off at whichever town you'd wake up to.” Adam replied, giving her a quick glance. Entering the city, they were greeted by its festive people from different mythical races. The place was called City of the Lost for a reason because this is where different mythic reside, rogue or not. Adam entered a dark building and as he put the car to a stop. Micah noticed then that the headlights were off the entire time. Micah unbuckled her seatbelt, but he stopped her when she was about to open the car door. Frowning, she looked at him curiously. He stared into her eyes and said, “Stay here.” Micah raised an eyebrow. “The last time you asked me to stay, I almost turned into minced meat. You can’t make me.” Adam sighed, frustrated. She can sense vampires in the building, but she cannot see them as they hide in the darkness. Adam turned on the headlights and Micah found it odd that he didn’t turn the headlights on when they entered the city. Instead, he turned them on when they had finally stopped. As soon as the headlights were on, Micah saw how the vampires avoided the light and hid in the shadows. “Don’t make me use compulsion on you, little bug.” Adam warned. “Is that a threat?” “I don’t make threats.” He replied, making Micah smirk. “So, I figured, but you’re not making me stay.” “Fine.” Adam replied through gritted teeth. “……but I won’t be responsible for you.” “I am no damsel in distress, sir.” “I know.” Adam turned off the car, along with the headlights. His movements were so quick that Micah didn’t get a chance to react and even if she wanted to go out, she couldn’t see in the dark. There is a limit to how much she can enhance her vision in the dark. Vampires are nocturnal creatures, like those of a bat, which is why moving in the dark doesn’t seem to be a problem for them. Given that fact, it still didn’t stop Micah from trying. She used her powers to enhance her vision, but it still wasn’t enough as she could only see silhouettes fighting in front of her. If she were to act carelessly, she might hurt Adam instead of the enemy. “Turn it on, little bug.” Micah heard Adam’s voice inside her head, making her roll her eyes. Tsk. Little bug. I’ll show you little, if you keep calling me that, you bloodsucking jerk. “I heard that.” Adam replied telepathically. Smirking, Micah replied. I know. Turning the ignition on along with the headlights, Micah was able to see what was happening, clearly. Adam had his back turned against the headlights while the vampires facing it, fell on the floor covering their eyes and screaming in pain. Frowning, Micah wondered whether vampires are naturally sensitive to any sort of light----but that was not quite right. These headlights are the same as sunlight. Smart. Micah thought. At the corner of the room, Micah saw three vampires trying to sneak an attack on Adam. She knew Adam could handle them, but sitting in the passenger seat doing nothing bores her. Micah took her bag, hoping to see a weapon and relief crossed her face when she saw her daggers inside. Micah stepped out of the car, holding three daggers. She threw the first one straight at the vampire’s chest as he was about to throw a grenade towards Adam. At first glance, she thought it was just a simple grenade, but as it exploded right on the vampire’s face, it burned his entire body along with a portion of the other vampire beside him. The other vampires turned their attention to Micah, eyes burning with rage. “Kill her.” Micah prepared herself for their attack but as the vampires made their move, Adam stopped, then in an instant. “Bad move.” said Adam, as the sound of the band playing and the screams of cheers covered the entire city. As soon as Adam killed the last vampire, Micah sighed in exhaustion. “I hope that’s the last of it.” “Maybe. We’ll stay here for the night.” Adam replied. Micah raised an eyebrow at him. “Are you really expecting me to spend the night with you?” Adam switched the light on, and it showed a spacious garage with two cars parked at each corner. “Unless you have other places to go.” He replied before walking away. It could be dangerous if someone recognizes me. I guess staying here for the night wouldn’t be so bad. If he tries anything, I’ll kill him. Micah thought before following Adam to a staircase that led to this house. Hearing her thoughts, Adam smirked. For that short amount of time that he spent with her, he knew she wouldn’t hesitate to attack anyone that stood in her way. Adam entered the code to his house and opened the door. Behind her, Micah walked in expecting a dark interior with goblets of wine or blood, but it was brighter than she expected. Instead of a dark interior, the walls are painted with cream and the furniture is either black or gray. “There’s a room on the left, use it.” Adam said as he laid on the long couch with his eyes closed. Micah took a seat on the single couch and watched him. Fascinated by the sight of an actual vampire before her. Is he tired? Do vampires even sleep? Does vervain hurt them? Micah thought as she stared at him. Her mind is flooded with questions, especially now that she has finally met one of the mythical races she’s been dying to meet. Too bad. Of all the vampires in the mythic world, I happen to meet a jerk with too much ego, feeling all mysterious. Tsk. “Are you done, little bug?” Micah blinked her eyes and looked away. “Uhm… I was just…. I just wanted to ask you where the bathroom is.” Adam opened his eyes and met her gaze. At that moment, as they stared into each other’s eyes, Micah wished she could read his mind just like he could read hers. Why does it feel like I’ve known you for centuries? What have you done to me? “I’m leaving.” Micah raised an eyebrow at him. “……and you’re asking me to come with you?” Sighing, he sat up and rested his elbows on his knees. “I would, but you decide for yourself.” Frowning, Micah replied. “Coming with you would be a bad idea.” Adam shifted in his seat with a deeper frown on his face as he stared at her. “Why? Because one, I do not know you. Just because I came all the way here from the Kingdom of Magic with you, doesn’t mean we’re close enough to travel together.” “Two, you’re a vampire with the gift of reading minds and I don’t think your power is limited to that. I’m not comfortable with the fact that you have the power over the mind. You’re making me think that you are keeping me by your side as a blood bank, perhaps?” Micah raised an eyebrow and stared into Adam’s eyes with a challenging look on her face. Adam, on the other hand, felt rather amused at how she expressed her thoughts brutally. “You’re not holding back, are you?” “I told you. There is no point hiding my thoughts from you as you can easily read them.” Micah replied. Adam nodded his head and stood from his seat. He took a step closer to her whilst Micah remained seated waiting for him to come close. Adam leaned in closer to her, placing his hand on either side of the armrest, trapping her in, but Micah had no intention of running away. She met his gaze with a strong look on her face. “You’re making this harder for me, little bug.” Adam said, almost sounding like a whisper. Micah felt his icy breath on her forehead, making her bite her lip. “Is it, Adam? Unlike you, I know nothing about it.” Adam's eyes drifted from her eyes to her lips. Fighting the urge to kiss her then and there. Pulling back, he took a step back and said, “ The bathroom is on the right.” Taking her bag into the bathroom, Micah sighed. The intensity of Adam’s presence was nothing to be laughed at. Every time they talked and every time he stared into her eyes, Micah knew that he was trying to dominate her. The weight of his aura was trying to consume her, to make her fall into submission. Smirking, Micah stared at her reflection in the mirror and said, “You got to do better than that, Devil Prince.” She was not holding back her thoughts anymore because she knew he could hear them, nonetheless. Micah opened the bag to see all its contents. Arci packed her some shorts, jeans, underwear, shirts, and a top. In the bag was her wallet too, with two more cards in them. It made her wonder where those cards came from? Micah shook her head and put the wallet back into the bag. She felt disappointed that Adam was leaving. She didn’t get the chance to ask him for any information about vampires. But now that she’s out of the Kingdom of Magic, the chances of her meeting yet another vampire will increase. Except for those vicious phantoms, of course. Remembering the phantom vampires, made her wonder what was the difference between a phantom and a villainous vampire? Besides having a vicious appearance, how could they possibly differ from a vampire who only thinks about himself? Who brings nothing but pain and betrayal to those around them? Looking at her reflection in the mirror, Micah said, “I do not know enough. Through the mirror, her eyes landed on the dress she was wearing. Tearing the dress as it reminded her of the events that had transpired tonight, Micah was determined not to look back anymore. She turned on the shower and let the cold water wash away all the filth from tonight’s incidents. Raising her hand to catch the water from the shower, it is formed into a ball of water. As she stared at the ball of water floating over her hand, Micah saw all the moments where she felt frustrated and angry. The ball of water started to boil and the water from the shower was getting hotter. Sighing, she calmed her raging heart, closing her eyes and breathing in and out. When she finally cooled down, so was the water temperature. Closing her palm, the ball of water popped. After a quick shower, Micah dipped into a tub filled with warm water and let the waters soothe her to an unending bliss. ~~~~~~~~ Micah snapped her eyes open when she felt movement from the water. Out of instinct, she created a dagger with the water element and as she was about to throw it, she saw Adam standing by the door. Micah dropped the dagger, letting the water flow through her body. “Did you see it?” asked Micah, standing in the tub not bothered by her nakedness in front of him. Adam stared at her, unsure whether to tell her the truth or lie to her. If it was something that she wanted to hide, then it would be better if he lied about seeing her powers but------ “Don’t even think of lying to me. I would know.” Micah added before he could speak. “I did. What are you going to do about it?” “Nothing. In fact, I do not care anymore.” Micah replied and she looked down, she saw the water was overflowing from the tub and it continues to overflow, yet the water was not flowing out of the bathroom. “You are guardian.” “That I am” Micah replied. “Forgive me for using the bathroom for too long and for making a mess. I didn’t know I had fallen asleep.” “Underwater?” “What?” “You were sleeping underwater for two hours.” Micah blinked her eyes, tongue-tied. She didn’t know what to make of it. “Get dressed.” With that, Adam closed the door. He held the knob so tight that it almost broke. Glancing at the door he sighed, shaking his head to rid his mind of Micah’s nakedness. “You’re getting dangerous, angel.” Adam whispered to himself before walking away. As soon as Adam left, Micah looked around at the mess she created. Sighing, she pulled the drain stopper and the water flooding on the floor reverted into the tub all the way to the drainage until there was nothing left. After changing into a pair of jeans and a top, she walked out of the bathroom and to the spare room. Frowning, Micah noticed that there was no other presence in the room or in the entire house. Walking out of the room, she looked around for Adam, but she saw no one. She went to the garage and saw one of his cars gone. “You left just like that. What a decent man you are.”
