Chapter 12

The city of the Lost was a good place to start a new life. There are different mythic on every corner of the street but there was rarely, or to be more precise, there was not a single vampire around, except for Adam. On the day of his departure, he left her a note, saying that she could use his place if she wanted to, but Micah didn’t. She didn’t want to stay in a place provided by him. They barely knew each other and his intentions of helping her were still a million-dollar question for her. Micah found an apartment in the city and, after almost a month of residing in the city, it was one of the greatest days of her life, thus far. Although, for some reason, from time to time------ “What am I doing here again?” staring at the establishment in front of her, Micah shook her head and walked away. From time to time, she always finds herself standing in front of Adam’s place. She hadn’t realized the effect he had on her overnight. “You are one dangerous man, Adam.” She whispered before walking back to her apartment. Micah raised an eyebrow when she sensed eyes on her. Instead of going straight to her apartment, she made a detour, and that detour took her to the same place where she stood not so long ago. Entering the garage, she turned around to greet her stalkers. “Can I help you gentlemen?” three vampires appeared out of the shadows of the garage. “We’re going to ask you a few questions, madam, about the vampire you were with.” One of the vampires replied. “I’m afraid the person you’re looking for is no longer in the city and if you were to follow him, I bet he’s already halfway across the world right now.” “But he will come back.” One of them replied with such certainty. Micah snorted. “Maybe. I do not know.” “He will come back for you.” The vampire added, making Micah frown. “You’re mistaken. We are but a stranger to each other, nothing more.” “He’s bonded with you.” Micah snorted. “I hardly call that bonding, but if vampires have a different meaning to the word, then you have me intrigued.” “He has chosen you.” “What?” the longer the conversation was going, the more she was intrigued. Micah almost wanted to tie them up and ask for details, but what would that do? Taking a dagger from the side of her jeans, she threw it at their chest, but a vampire speed was nothing to be laughed at. Even if she were to use her body manipulation to enhance her speed, she would still be no match for them. “Nice try miss, but you got to do better than that.” Says one vampire before giving her a hard punch on the face. Dang. They can give a serious punch. Micah thought as she stumbled back and spat out blood. Holding a dagger in both hands, she was ready to attack when it started raining outside and that was when she felt the presence of a sorcerer. She’s probably here. This is the closest city she could find refuge in. Scan the area and check all the establishments. The element was telling her that they were getting close. Micah gritted her teeth, but she was so distracted by the presence of the sorcerers that she forgot the creatures in front of her. It was too late for Micah to realize that they had caught her arm, binding it behind her. “That criminal will surely come back for you, and I know he will give us everything we ask.” “If he’s a criminal, then what does that make you? Isn’t it a crime to hold me hostage like this? Have you read the laws and norms of the Six Kingdoms of the Moon? Shall I educate you, then?” Micah gasped when she felt something sharp poking her arm. Shaking her head as it started to make her feel dizzy, she closed her eyes and cured herself of intoxication. Letting her body loose, she made them believe she was losing strength. They are vampires, and the fastest way for her to get away from her pursuers is to use their speed. At a far distance, he was watching. He had always been watching her. From the moment he left the city, he would come back once every three days to check on her. But when she came across a group of sorcerers, he came back for her, and it just so happened that a group of vampires was stalking her. Adam gritted his teeth when he saw one of them land a punch on her face. At a fast speed, he approached them, ripping the heart of the vampire holding her. The vampires were a second too late to react, thus ending with their s*******r. Adam caught Micah’s body as it was about to fall on the floor of his garage. He almost wanted to tear their bodies to pieces when he saw her unconscious, but looking at her face he smiled at Micah’s pretense. He carried her body, taking her to her apartment at a fast speed. Gently, placing her body down on the soft mattress of the bed. Micah gently opened her eyes, and she caught the sight of her red bag, and her hands were no longer bonded together. Turning her body to the side, she raised an eyebrow when she saw Adam casually leaning on the headboard with his eyes closed. “What are WE doing here and why are YOU here?” Micah asked, speaking her mind. “Why shouldn’t I?” he opened his eyes and turned his head to look at her. Meeting his gaze, Micah frowned when she saw nothing but anger in his eyes. “Why are you looking at me like that? Are you angry with me? Why would you be?” Micah sounded angry. Adam’s temper was so contagious that she couldn’t help it. “Because you were being careless.” Adam answered through gritted teeth. “Excuse me?” “One wrong move and you could’ve died. They will not hesitate to kill you.” Adam replied, staring at her with such intensity. Micah scoffed. “I never asked you to save me. If anything were to happen to me, that would be due to my lack of judgment, and they didn’t come for me in the first place. They came looking for you through me. You just got me into your mess.” “What did they tell you?” his voice sounded dangerous. Micah raised an eyebrow. “I think you already know.” There was silence between them. Adam was just staring at her, watching her as she looked into his eyes. He was trying to dominate her, but Micah was unwavering. “Don’t bother asking questions. There is nothing for me to tell.” Adam replied, which Micah had already expected. “I know, which is why I’m not, because I am not a bit interested.” It was a lie; clearly, but Micah didn’t want to admit that. Not to him. He drifted his eyes away from her and sat in silence. “I wouldn’t be surprised if you made yet another mess in your garage. Thank you for saving me but I didn’t need it.” Micah added. Adam was ever so amused by her sharp tongue that he couldn’t help but smirk. He felt the presence of the sorcerers near and said, “They’re here.” “Hello? Is anyone home?” Micah cursed. She stood from the bed and gathered her things, ready to escape, but she was taken aback when she saw Adam standing with the door open. Micah gritted her teeth and screamed in her mind. YOU BLOODSUCKING DEVIL. I’ll make you pay for this, you numbskull. “We are looking for a healer. She is a beautiful woman with long hair. She is an important person to our kingdom, and we were instructed to check the neighboring areas thoroughly. Do you mind if we look inside your apartment, sir?” turning his head to her direction, Adam smiled. “There is indeed a beautiful woman here………” his eyes were fixed on her, and Micah raised an eyebrow as he met his gaze. “………………...but she’s not the one you’re looking for.” “We shall see for ourselves.” One of the sorcerers replied. “Babe?” Adam reached his hand for her, and she hesitated. Reaching for her hand, he pulled Micah close and snaked his arms around her waist. “What do you think you’re doing?” she whispered through gritted teeth. The sorcerers were watching them, and Micah acted like she wasn’t affected by their presence. “You have such a beautiful wife, sir. We don’t see vampire couples every day and I must say that vampire women are as beautiful as the rumors say.” Raising an eyebrow with a fake smile on her face, Micah turned her head to look at them but there was no sign of recognition on their faces. Glancing at the vampire mythic beside her, he gave her a wink and placed a soft kiss on the crook of her neck. Micah almost lost her breath at the gesture. It was a feeling that almost resembled that of the vampire she once met. “We will let you be. Thank you for your cooperation, sir.” Micah waited until the sorcerers left the apartment building before she pulled back from Adam’s hold. “You’re welcome, little bug.” He casually said, ever so arrogantly. “It seems you can manipulate minds too. Should I be worried?” frowning, he turned his head and stared at her. “Are you?” “NO.” Micah’s reply was so quick that it surprised her. There was no hesitation nor second thought. She knew deep in her heart that she trusted him, more than anyone else in her life. Taking his jacket from the couch, Adam started walking towards the door when she asked, “Why did you come back, Adam?” Turning around to face her, Adam replied with utmost honesty. “For you.” “Don’t lie to me.” Micah retorted. Adam raised an eyebrow and stared at her with a challenging look on his face. “Am I?” Micah bit her lip because she knew, no matter how much she denied it, she knew Adam was speaking the truth. “Why would you come back for me?” Taking a few steps closer to her, Adam bent his head down and stared into her eyes. “Because you are mine.” Frowning with an eyebrow raised, Micah showed her displeasure at the thought, but then she remembered the words of those vampires. They said he chose her. Chose her for what? “I can’t remember ever being yours, Adam.” “Don’t take this the wrong way, little bug. There are people coming after me, and the moment you step into my car, you are added to the list. They’re no longer after me, they’re after US.” For some reason, Micah was not satisfied with his answer. That wasn’t what she wanted to hear but ------ “Nevermind.” She whispered to herself. “What is it?” Raising an eyebrow, Micah smiled, “I have questions, Adam, but if you’re still not ready to answer them, then don’t bother asking.” Sighing, Adam smiled, amused. He then stared into her eyes with a stern look on his face. “It is yours to decide, little bug. Come with me, or stay, but either way, you’re mine to protect.” “I am no----” “…. damsel in distress, I know. Instead of protecting you, I'd train you to protect yourself.” ~~~~~~ The banishment of the second prince of the Kingdom of Dracula has reached each corner of the kingdom. The people who adored the second prince were enraged by the king’s decision. “Adam would never kill anyone without reason.” “When we were suffering from the attacks of the phantom vampires, it was Adam who protected us.” “If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have got enough compensation for supplying animal blood to the central city.” “Killing a vampire under the protection of the kingdom is punished by death, yet they chose to banish him instead. Something is not right.” “They should have the nobles in the castle investigated instead of accusing Adam of a crime he did not commit.” The people living outside the city of Dracula were ever so loyal to the second prince of the kingdom who protected and fought for their rights as citizens of the kingdom. The complaints and opinions about the banishment of the second prince had reached the king’s ears and he was anything but happy about it. “Punish those who support Adam and warn everyone in the kingdom not to say a word about him or they shall be sentenced to death.” He ordered with urgency and anger. Beside him, his royal adviser, Gregory, stood, silently observing the king’s actions. “If you do this, you are only confirming their suspicions,” Gregory commented. The king stood from his throne and turned to face him. “What suspicion? I know and I am sure that Adam killed my son. He was so eager to get rid of him so he could claim his right to the throne.” “No matter what you say, Adam is the rightful heir to the throne. Queen Nadia has declared it.” Gregory replied. “…..that declaration died with her and the same fate awaits Adam. You had better keep your mouth shut if you don’t want the same thing, brother.” The king left the throne room with a dark look on his face. He thought Adam’s banishment would benefit the kingdom, but it only sparked suspicions and might start a rebellion against those who believed in Adam’s innocence; it would get worse if the word about the queen’s royal decree got out. “The monarchy is mine.” Glancing at the vampire knight posted by the door, King Bartholomew waved his hand asking him to come over. “Look for Robert’s fiancé and tell her to come to my chambers.” “Right away, sire.” As soon as the king left, Gregory stepped out of the corner and stared at the king’s retreating figure. “Advisor Gregory.” Behind him, Master Langdon appeared. “Is there anything I could help you with, Master Langdon?” “You’ve been serving your brother long before he was seated on the throne, therefore I know YOU know almost everything about him. Thus, let me ask you, did Queen Nadia leave a royal decree?” Master Langdon stared at him, cautious and observant as he waited for Gregory’s reply. Sighing, Gregory glanced from side to side before looking into Master Langdon’s eyes. “Yes, there was, but the content of the decree was never known. My brother was the only person who read it and maybe, Adam, as well as he claimed to be the rightful heir of the throne.” “By birthright, it was Prince Adam’s to claim, and honestly, I had high hopes for him. But ever since his mother’s death, he has started to ruin his life. Which is why I started to doubt his ability to rule the kingdom.” Master Langdon replied. “We know nothing of Adam’s pain when his mother died and we know nothing of his intentions for the kingdom, but as the person who practically raised him, I know Adam loved the kingdom that his late mother loved and served until her last breath. Now, if you’ll excuse me, Master Langdon.” The prestige of the kingdom was slowly crumbling down. Sixty percent of the kingdom’s populace are found in the outskirts of the city of Dracula and all of them side with the second prince of the kingdom. If the king were to oppress them, it would only make matters worse. Gregory had always been loyal to his brother, but he raised Adam as his own. Gregory stopped and stood before the portrait of the king. “You were the one who brought honor and power to our family, but I cannot let you kill Adam.” ~~~~~~~ Micah and Adam traveled in silence after spending one night at Micah’s apartment. They left the city at dawn and since then, Adam hadn’t said a word, which made Micah think twice about her decision to come with him. She wanted to have a conversation, but she didn’t want him to think her a fool for asking trivial questions about vampires. There was a lot she wanted to know about them; about him, but that would have to wait. She must wait. Sighing for the nth time, Micah bit her lip as she stared at the window and watched as they passed by small houses and forests along the way. “I will leave the car to an old friend. We will walk through the woods from then.” Finally, she heard him say. Micah shifted her body on her seat and turned her head to look at him. “Whatever you say, sir.” She replied, shrugging her shoulders. Frowning, Adam turned his head in her direction, locking his eyes with hers. “What?” “What are you saying, little bug?” he asked. “Nothing. I never thought a tight-lipped bloodsucking bipolar like you, could have any friends.” Micah replied smiling, but the sincerity cannot be found in her eyes. Smirking, he replied. “You’d be surprised what this tight-lipped bloodsucking mouth can do.” Micah snorted as she rolled her eyes at him, turning her head to the side as she whispered, “I bet all that mouth can do is suck blood from a beautiful woman’s neck.” “You don’t have to be so jealous, little bug. Vampire men don’t necessarily drink blood from women.” Adam said upon hearing her. Micah rolled her eyes at him yet again. “I am not jealous. Why would I be?” “You tell me, little bug, but just to feed your curiosity, in my centuries of existence, I have never gone close to any woman’s neck except for that one time.” Adam glanced at her, and she raised an eyebrow. “Your soulmate?” “Not a soulmate. She was more than that.” Micah blinked her eyes and looked away. She didn’t want to hear more about it. Smirking, Adam noticed Micah’s foul mood. She could feel her glare in the window, and it was amusing. “Jealous again are we, little bug? You need not worry about anything. You are the only woman I have ever kissed-----" “Shut up.” Grinning, Adam turned his attention back to the road. “Is it true you’re a criminal?” Micah couldn’t help but ask. Ever since she heard it from those vampires, it has been bothering her the entire time and even if she tries and keep it, Adam can still hear her thoughts. There was nothing but silence between them. The once playful atmosphere was replaced with an air of discomfort. Gently turning her head to see Adam’s expression, his eyes remained fixed on the road with a blank look on his face. “I am, little bug.” Adam turned his head to meet her gaze and watched her reaction, but there was nothing. She was looking at him the same way. Hearing his reply, Micah didn’t know how to react. How could she react when he’s both telling the truth and telling a lie? “I am a criminal. Do you still trust me with your life?” He added. “There is something you should know about me, Adam. I have never regretted any decision in my life and right now……………...” Micah stared right into his eyes as she continued, “………..I’d rather be with a criminal than be with people who would only trap me to an eternity of suffering.”
