The Cursed Alpha
Once upon a time in a not so far away land there was a young Alpha. He had just inherited his pack from his father along with all his wealth. He had everything money could buy; cars, jets, all the latest technology, the hottest fashions and everything power usually attracts. Attention, influence, and power. She-wolves would flock to him and shamelessly throw themselves at him in hopes they were his fated mate, some didn't care if they were or not as long as they could wriggle their way into power and influence. If he made a move in business or choice of clothing, the masses followed ensuite, and if he gave an order it was followed. On one very important night, a delegation from the neighboring human town arrived bearing gifts in honor of his birthday. Among them was an older woman who was well renowned among many for her uncanny insight. What she shared with very few was her ability to see glimpses into the future, and what she was seeing was making it difficult to draw her eyes away from the young and newly appointed Alpha. Her stares drew his attention. Humans were a nuisance to him, and now that he was Alpha he was planning on doing something about seperating his people from the lesser, weaker species. For now he would simply deal with this delegation and the annoying old woman they brought with them. How dare she make eye contact! He thought as he quickly approached the group that had just entered the ball room of the Manor. "Happy Birthday Alpha Bre..." Brett did not let him finish. He barely glanced at the man. Jeffrey something or the other. He was the Mayor of that sad excuse for a human pack. Instead he addressed the old woman. "Do you know that you are challenging a wolf by staring them in the eyes?" His voice hald authority. Enough so that is snapped the woman out of her musings. "My apologies Alpha, the staring is a trait of the talent I'm afraid." The Alpha could see the confusion in the faces of her companions. Clearly they had no idea what she was talking about. The exception being the Mayor, he seemed tense but not surprised. The wolves in the room waited in silence to see how their Alpha would handle this. "And what...' he paused only breifly as he tried to quell the rage he was feeling against this Irksome ugly old woman, 'kind of talent... would that be?" She smiled softly. "I am a born psychic, or a seer, or an oracle. My family has been known by many things over the generations. I was staring because I was seeing the future of your pack under your leadership. Seeing as it is your birthday, you have everything and anything you could ask for, and I wanted to bring a meaningful gift... I thought I would look into the fututure to bring you hope for your future leadership." "Why would I need hope? We have everything we could need. Our needs do not include humans with useless...talents." He spit the last word out like it was acidic. Seeing the trouble brewing the Mayor waddled closer as quickly as he could to try and do some damage control. "Alpha Brett! Her abilities are real. She knows things, we dont know how but she does." The mayor continued. "She has been a great service in helping me lead, there is no intention to mock you or your people." "Out! Humans are no longer welcome on Pack lands!" He bellowed with all the force of his Alpha tone causing the wolves to bow their heads in submission. He finally found his excuse to get rid of the humans and keep them from coming onto packk lands ever again. With his order the wolves were compelled to start escorting the humans out. All of them. Every single one. Including the human mates of the wolves in the pack. Before she was unceremoniously removed from the property the woman looked at him in such a sad pitying way that he was unable to say anything. Then she spoke. "The future for you is only clear to a point. You let your pride hurt your people. The pain they are suffering, and will continue to suffer at your hands will be your undoing. Unless you can find a way to heal those wounds you will be remembered as the Alpha who destroyed his own pack." Her words struck him somewhere deep inside. He almost stopped his wolves from dragging her away so he could ask her to clarify, but he had given his orders. For now he would stick with them. As the last human was dragged across the pack borders, the howling began. The pain of those who had lost a parent, a wolfless child, a mate, or friend cried out in pain over their loss. Brett had not considered this when he lost his temper and gave his command. He knew he was about to regret his wording as the pain came across the link. It was a pain he could never even imagine. He did not know what it was like to love but he now knew how it felt to lose it. He could feel all of it through the pack link. Their collective anguish was enough to drive him mad. He stormed up the stairs past his Beta without a word. The intense emotions of his pack were hitting harder with every passing moment. Brett was so blind sided that he didn't even notice that his Beta was glaring at him. He quickly made it to his rooms and was inside before he realized that he had to open the doors himself. There was not a wolf to be seen. He was about to call out across the link for one of the Omegas to get over here and do their job but the pain washed over him again. So instead he slammed the door as if he could sever the link and block out the pain. The old woman was right. This would be his undoing. Maybe tomorrow he would send his Beta into the human town to find the Old woman and bring her back. She needed to tell him how to fix this. No, this couldn't wait. He had no idea when this would stop. She could not have made it far. She was an old frail human after all. 'Callan! Go to the human town and bring that old woman back here! NOW!' He didn't wait for a response, it took all the energy he had left to break through the packs pain to give his orders. Now all he could do was try not to snap before Callan brought her back. When Brett finally woke the next day much of the pain was ebbing but being slowly replaced with hate and anger. Most of it was aimed at him. He never really felt anything from his pack. There was always a sense of disconnect between them as if they were intentionally not letting him in. They were letting him in now. They let him share the full brunt of their emotions. Why would they do that though? He was the Alpha! This could be considered assault couldn't it? It certainly hurt enough to make him feel justified in swinging on a few people. 'Callan?' Brett called across the mind link for the only friend he has ever known. 'Alpha.' Was his curt reply. Alpha? he always calls him by his name unless others are listening in or are in their presence. 'Callan? Did you go to the town? Did you find the woman?' It was silent for a moment. 'Alpha the woman was no longer in that town. It is my understanding that she left. The Mayor would not tell me where she went.' With that he cut their link. Brett was not imagining things. Callan was being distant and even sounded angry towards him. He will get over it, Brett assured himself. The Manor was unusually quiet. listening carefully he could hear a few pack members milling around, not as many as he usually heard.Where was the staff? He made his way down the hall to the stairs and looked for the closest wolf he could find. When he did find them he was a bit taken aback. It was an adolescent. "The Manor is not a playground."He half groaned and half growled the statement. The kid paled and immediately bowed his head. Still he made no sound. Brett could smell the fear and tension rolling off him in waves. As if sensing the unspoken question the kid held out his hands. In one was a rag, the other a cleaning solution. He was cleaning? Wasn't he a little young to be working? "Why are you here? I don't recall authorizing pups to clean the Manor." "I'm st-standing in... There was no one else." He spoke the last part quickly and quietly. "Standing in for whom?" He asked sternly. They should have their pay docked for pulling this stunt. He considered whether or not there were rules pertaining to this exact thing and whether or not it was worth looking up. He was the Alpha after all. His word was Pack Law. "My mother." Came the hesitant reply. "Is she sick?" The sarcasm in his voice was hardly concealed. "N-No..." The boy trailed off as if he did not know how to say what he had to say. "Well? Where is she then?" He asked with his Alpha tone causing the boy to flinch and blurt out what he was thinking. Brett immediately felt sick and regretted asking. "You banished humans from pack lands last night. All of them. She was human." His voice strained as if he was trying to fight the Alpha command and keep his words to himself. Without another word Brett turned to head down the stairs when he heard the whispered question. "If I dont get my wolf soon... will you banish me to?" The consequences of his decision were slowly and painfully starting to become clear. He didn't turn around and he did't answer the boys question. He couldn't. He felt sick. So he just left him there. On the lower level he came across an older woman and asked her what he failed to ask the boy upstairs. "You there, who is that boy upstairs?" The older woman looked at him startled and surprisingly, with disappointment. Why would she be disappointed in him? He felt his rage boiling up, but he quelled it. The elderly were mentally slipping, it was pointless getting mad at them. "The boy upstairs? The one cleaning? That would be Beta Callan's Pup, Noah." Now he really was going to be sick.He could feel it roiling around in his gut. Then it made hi way up his chest to his throat. He darted down the hall and into a bathroom. His empty stomach giving up only bile as he heaved into the toilet. Now he knew. He knew why Callan was mad at him. 'Callan, I'm sorry. Maybe we can fix this? The Mayor? Can we get him back here?' He pleaded over the link but his questions were only met with silence.
