Chloe stared through the tinted windows in complete silence, her heart still beating unevenly from everything that had happened tonight. The mansion before her looked unreal beneath the stormy sky. Bright security lights surrounded the enormous building while armed guards stood watch around every corner like soldiers protecting a dangerous king. Nothing about the place felt normal. It was luxurious, beautiful, and terrifying at the same time. The car finally stopped in front of the mansion entrance. Before Chloe could gather her thoughts properly, a guard rushed forward and opened Adrian’s door immediately. Adrian stepped out calmly, his expensive black shoes touching the wet ground while rain droplets landed lightly against his dark suit. Even the guards around him lowered their heads respectfully the moment he appeared. Chloe noticed it instantly. Fear. Loyalty. Obedience. Everyone here treated Adrian like someone far more powerful than an ordinary billionaire. Adrian turned toward the car and looked directly at her. “Come out,” he said calmly. Chloe hesitated slightly. Something deep inside her warned her not to trust powerful men too easily. But looking behind her wasn’t any safer either. Dangerous people were still chasing her somewhere outside these walls. Slowly, she stepped out of the car, hugging her soaked body tightly as cold wind brushed painfully against her skin. The moment Adrian saw her shiver slightly, his expression darkened. “You’re freezing,” he muttered quietly. Before Chloe could answer, Adrian removed his expensive black suit jacket and placed it carefully over her shoulders. Chloe froze instantly from shock. The warmth from the jacket surrounded her immediately along with his scent — dark cologne mixed with rain and something dangerously masculine. Her heartbeat quickened slightly without permission. “You don’t have to do that,” she said softly. Adrian ignored her protest completely. “Inside,” he instructed calmly. Chloe followed him quietly toward the mansion entrance while guards silently watched them pass. The large doors opened immediately, revealing an interior even more luxurious than she imagined. Crystal chandeliers reflected soft golden lights across expensive marble floors while enormous paintings decorated the walls beautifully. Everything inside screamed wealth, power, and control. Yet despite the beauty surrounding her, Chloe couldn’t relax. The mansion felt less like a home and more like a golden prison. A middle-aged woman suddenly approached them quickly. “Mr Knight,” she greeted respectfully before her eyes landed on Chloe in surprise. “She’ll be staying here,” Adrian said calmly. The woman blinked slightly. “Prepare the east guest suite for her immediately.” “Yes, sir.” Chloe frowned slightly at his words. “Staying here?” she repeated softly. Adrian finally looked at her fully again. “You can’t leave tonight.” Chloe crossed her arms nervously beneath his jacket. “And if I want to?” A dangerous silence followed immediately. The guards nearby instantly looked uncomfortable. Adrian slowly stepped closer toward her, his towering figure making Chloe’s breathing uneven again. Up close, his sharp grey eyes looked even more intense beneath the soft mansion lights. Everything about him radiated control. Power. Danger. “You’re being hunted,” Adrian said quietly. “Walking outside tonight would be suicide.” Chloe swallowed nervously. His words were harsh, but deep down she knew he was right. Still… Something about staying inside Adrian Knight’s mansion felt dangerous in another way she couldn’t explain. The woman beside them cleared her throat awkwardly before speaking again. “Miss, please follow me upstairs.” Chloe looked at Adrian one last time before finally nodding slightly. Her exhausted body barely had enough strength left to argue anymore. She quietly followed the housekeeper upstairs while Adrian remained standing downstairs, watching her disappear from sight. The moment Chloe vanished upstairs, Adrian’s expression instantly changed. All softness disappeared. “What did the security cameras capture?” he asked coldly. One of the guards stepped forward immediately. “We traced three vehicles following her before interception, sir. Same symbol as before.” Adrian’s jaw tightened dangerously. Of course. He already suspected it. “They found her faster than expected,” another guard added carefully. A deadly silence filled the mansion afterward. Adrian slowly loosened his tie while darker thoughts filled his mind. For years, he searched endlessly for Chloe after the m******e that destroyed everything. He buried people. Tortured enemies. Started wars. All because he refused to believe she died that night. Yet after years of nothing, even Adrian eventually accepted the painful truth. Until tonight. And now the people responsible had found her again. His eyes darkened dangerously. “They will not touch her,” Adrian said coldly. Nobody responded. Because everyone inside the mansion already knew what Adrian Knight became whenever something belonged to him. Upstairs, Chloe entered the luxurious bedroom prepared for her while the older woman placed towels neatly beside the bathroom door. “You can shower and change into these clothes,” she said kindly. “I prepared them quickly.” “Thank you,” Chloe replied softly. The woman hesitated briefly before speaking again. “You shouldn’t be afraid of Mr Knight.” Chloe looked surprised. “I didn’t say I was.” The woman smiled faintly. “You don’t need to say it.” Silence followed. Then the woman continued quietly. “He may look cold… but he has never brought anyone into this house before.” Chloe frowned slightly after hearing that. “What do you mean?” But the woman simply smiled again. “Rest well, miss.” And with that, she quietly left the room. The moment the door closed behind her, Chloe finally released the breath she had been holding all night. Her exhausted body slowly sat against the edge of the large bed while her mind replayed everything that happened repeatedly. The gunshots. The chase. Adrian’s strange reaction when he saw her. None of it made sense anymore. Slowly, Chloe stood and walked toward the large mirror inside the room. For a moment, she barely recognized herself. Her wet hair clung messily around her pale face while the small cut on her forehead remained visible beneath Adrian’s black handkerchief. 🔥TBC...
