#Dark romance #Mystery #Suspense #Obsession #Possessive Hero Chloe’s frustration burned hotter inside her chest as Adrian continued staring at her with that same calm expression that made him impossible to read. The silence stretching between them felt heavy, almost suffocating, while the storm outside continued crashing violently against the windows. She hated the way he answered her questions without truly answering them. Every word from him sounded like half a truth wrapped carefully in mystery. “You keep talking like you own every answer,” Chloe said finally, folding her arms tightly across her chest. “But you refuse to explain anything properly.” Adrian remained standing near the door, his sharp grey eyes fixed completely on her face. Even without moving closer, his presence alone filled the room powerfully enough to make Chloe nervous. The air around him always felt controlled, dangerous, like he carried darkness naturally inside himself. “There are things you’re not ready to know yet,” Adrian replied calmly. Chloe scoffed softly. “And who decided that? You?” “Yes.” The confidence in his answer shocked her instantly. Chloe stared at him in disbelief while irritation rose deeper inside her chest. “You really think you can control everything, don’t you?” Adrian’s expression remained unchanged. “I control what threatens me.” His voice deepened slightly when he said those words, and somehow Chloe felt like there was a hidden meaning behind them. Before she could ask further, Adrian slowly walked toward the small table near the bed and placed something down carefully. “A phone,” he said. “Only numbers saved there are security and mine.” Chloe frowned immediately. “You’re serious?” “You’ll use it if anything happens.” She picked up the phone slowly before looking back at him. “And if I want to call someone else?” “You won’t.” That answer irritated her again. “You can’t decide that for me.” Adrian finally looked directly into her eyes. “The people chasing you could trace any outside contact.” The seriousness in his voice made Chloe pause slightly. Deep down, she hated admitting it, but Adrian didn’t look like a man exaggerating danger. Everything about him screamed experience. Power. Violence. Like he had spent years surviving things ordinary people couldn’t imagine. Chloe placed the phone back down carefully before sighing tiredly. “Why are you helping me?” For the first time since entering the room, Adrian hesitated slightly. Only for a second. But Chloe noticed. His jaw tightened almost immediately afterward while his gaze darkened faintly. “Because I failed you once already.” Her heartbeat slowed strangely. “What does that mean?” Adrian looked away briefly before answering. “It means you almost died because I wasn’t there.” Silence filled the room instantly. Chloe stared at him, confused again by the strange emotion hidden inside his words. There was guilt there. Real guilt. But she couldn’t understand why a man like Adrian Knight would carry guilt connected to her. “We don’t even know each other,” she whispered softly. Adrian’s eyes returned to her immediately. “That’s where you’re wrong.” Those words sent another strange chill through her body. Before Chloe could respond, a loud thunder strike suddenly shook the mansion heavily, causing the lights inside the room to flicker briefly. Chloe jumped slightly from the sound, and instinctively, Adrian’s attention sharpened toward her immediately. “You’re scared of storms?” he asked quietly. Chloe looked embarrassed for a second before turning away slightly. “No.” Adrian studied her silently. “You flinched.” “It surprised me, that’s all.” Another thunder strike echoed outside, louder this time. Chloe hated how her body tensed again automatically. Without warning, Adrian slowly removed his watch and placed it on the table before loosening the first buttons of his dark shirt casually. Chloe’s eyes widened slightly in confusion. “What are you doing?” “Staying.” Her breath caught instantly. “What?” Adrian’s expression remained calm. “You’re terrified, exhausted, and being hunted. I’m not leaving you alone tonight.” Chloe’s heartbeat quickened dangerously. “You can’t just stay in my room!” Adrian raised one brow slightly. “My room is three doors away. Stop acting like I’m climbing into your bed.” The bluntness in his answer made Chloe speechless for a second. “I didn’t say that!” “But you thought it.” Heat rushed instantly into Chloe’s cheeks. Adrian noticed. And for the first time tonight… A faint smirk appeared on his lips. That tiny expression changed his entire face dangerously. Suddenly he looked less cold and somehow even more attractive, which honestly irritated Chloe more. “You’re impossible,” she muttered quietly. “And you talk too much when nervous.” Chloe opened her mouth to argue again before stopping herself. Because annoyingly… He was right. The silence between them became softer afterward, though the tension never disappeared completely. Adrian calmly sat down on the chair near the large windows while Chloe remained standing awkwardly near the bed, unsure what to do anymore. Outside, rain continued falling endlessly across the dark estate while armed guards patrolled the mansion grounds below. Chloe slowly looked toward Adrian again. Even sitting casually, he still looked intimidating enough to command an entire room without effort. The tattoos along his wrist became more visible now beneath the dim lights, dark ink wrapping around strong veins and expensive rings resting against his fingers. Everything about him screamed danger. Yet somehow… For the first time tonight… Chloe didn’t feel afraid anymore. And honestly, that scared her more than anything else. Meanwhile, Adrian watched her quietly from across the room while darker emotions moved heavily inside his chest. Seeing Chloe alive again after all these years felt unreal. He had spent years destroying anyone connected to the m******e that took her away from him. He built an empire soaked in blood trying to bury the guilt of failing her that night. But now fate had returned her to him again. And Adrian already kne w one terrifying truth. This time… Nothing on earth would separate him from her again. Not enemies. Not danger.
