Chapter 13

It had been a week after the breakup, every single minute, I could stop myself from thinking Frank and cursing me to break up with him. I called him many times, but he did not pick up my call. I decided to go to his home and to apologize for what I said the other day.

Usually, his home would be locked, but that day it was not. Seeing Lauren’s house, I was having a nostalgic feeling. I ignored it and rang the doorbell of Frank’s house.

After a long time, he opened the door, ‘Nora?’. He was surprised to see me, but he didn’t seem happy about my visit.

‘Frank, I need to talk to you’

He looked around the street, held my wrist, and pulled me inside his home, ‘Did anyone follow you?’

‘No’

‘Are you sure?’

‘Yes’

‘What the f**k are you doing here?’

‘I wanted to see you, why didn’t you pick any of my calls?’

He just rolled up his eyes, tilted his head up, and went inside the living room. I followed him to the living room.

‘This is not the right time to speak. You should go. I will come and meet you later’

‘Okay, I just want to tell you one thing, about the other day, what I spoke, I did not mean it. I am sorry. I just work at Jack’s office and I have nothing to do with him.’

He narrowed his eyes and looked down and he gave a weird look, touched his beard the same he usually does. His action conveyed that I was annoying him, but I did not give up.

‘I love you’, I said staring at him.

He stared at me with an emotionless face, ‘Leave now’, he said it so coldly.

The word ‘Leave now’ really hurt me a lot. I came to his house to apologize and was saying that I love him, but how rude he was? At least he should have accepted my apology. I turned back and started walking out of his home so angrily, I was such a fool to go behind a person who never loved me. I cursed myself. With eyes full of tears, I could not even see the road properly.

Suddenly, I heard a bike horn sound behind me, Yes! It was from Frank. I was so happy to see him but still, I pretended to be angry. I wanted to curse him, kiss him, hug him but stood silently.

‘I will drop you’

‘No, I can go by myself’, I snapped.

He stared at me so coldly and I did not want to argue with him, that too on road, so, I boarded his bike and we both went to my home.

As soon as we reached home. ‘Don’t come to my house. They will often come and visit me, it’s not safe for you’, he said this giving me a meaningful look.

Staring at him, I nodded quietly. His phone started ringing, ‘Yeah Jason, I will be there in an hour’, he spoke to the same Jason on phone.

‘I got to go’, he snapped.

‘Are we good?’

‘yes’, he nodded doubtfully. I knew he was still mad at me.

The next day morning, I got a call from Elena, ‘Sister Audrey is ill. You should come here’

Before even I reached the orphanage home, sister Audrey had passed away. I felt my life was not going smoothly.

After Sister Audrey’s funeral ceremony, I felt so isolated. I really needed someone to talk, I was having a hard time. I could call Frank, but I did not have any idea where he was or what he was doing?

Days passed by, I felt so lonely on those days. I did not like the city or my lonely life. I did not want to work in that city at all. I was just doing an assistant job which I was not meant to be. I wanted to run away to my orphanage home and wanted to live there with Elena and other kids. But whenever this thought hits my mind, I wanted to save money for Elena’s school fees, so, I convinced myself not to give up.

Jack used to call me out, but I refused. Jack was really a gentleman, he understood me very well when I refuse to hang out with him. I really cannot encourage whom I didn’t love.

One evening, after I returned to my home from the office, I was sitting near the window looking at the snow. I heard my doorbell rang. I opened in hesitation. My face was full of a grin. It was Frank.

‘Hi’, he said faintly with a smile.

 Is this really Frank, it had been a long time I saw him smiling, ‘Hi’, I replied in a gaze.

I did not know how long he was going to stay this time. Frank started kissing me as soon as he entered my home, ‘I missed you’, I murmured on his ears. We had a perfect romance that night.

The next day morning, I saw Frank was still sleeping next to me. I switched on the television and there were this news headlines saying, ‘Super Lilly and his gang people have murdered two policemen last night, so, authorities have decided to search for Super Lilly with more force’

And the news also added, ‘If anyone knows any clue where Super Lilly is, the department of police have requested to inform them.’

I was so shocked to hear this. All I worried was about Frank’s safety because he was also one of the persons from the Super Lilly gang. I knew for sure, Frank was not involved in that crime. He was with me the whole night. I should make a move and make Frank get rid of Super Lilly.

I took his phone as he was still sleeping and opened his message inbox, I was looking for any clue where Super Lilly was. The very first message in his inbox was a message from a contact called Jason and it was an address.

I guessed it may be a Super Lilly’s address, but I was not sure. I was very good at memorizing things and I memorized the address and even I noted it down in a paper in case if I forgot. When I turned back, I saw Frank standing and staring at me, ‘What are you doing with my phone?’

I was so agitated and took a step back on seeing him. I crushed the paper and threw it away when he didn’t watch. He took his phone from my hand, ‘tell me what the hell were you doing?’

‘I was just looking, whether you are speaking with any other girls or not’, I smiled at him.

‘what’, he raised his both eyebrows and asked me in doubt.

‘Yeah, I am already late to office. I will go first. Put the keys in the usual spot while leaving’, I pretended to be normal and passed him.

He held my arms abruptly, stared at me deep coldly, and grabbed it harder, ‘it is paining’, I said to him as I was groaning.

With a cold stare, he slowly left my arm which he was holding so tightly, and then I walked out of my house. I was so confused, I knew the address, ‘Is it super Lilly’s current location? Should I tell the police? or Should I just leave it?’ but this was the one good opportunity to help police to get Super Lilly arrested.

I should do it. I ran to a random public telephone booth and called the police,

‘Hello, I know where Super Lilly is’

‘May I know whom I am speaking with?’

I just told the address and hung up the phone. I was almost sweated all over my body out of fear. I ran to the office. Jack noticed my uneasiness.

‘Are you okay?’, he looked at me with confusion.

‘Yeah, I am just fine’, I snapped.

‘If you are not well. Take off today’

I still could not concentrate on what Jack was telling me as my mind was fully occupied by the phone call that I made to the police station.

‘Hey, you okay?’

I was startled back to consciousness.

‘I am sorry Jack, I am fine. I will start to work’, I licked my dried lips nervously.

‘Okay, let me know if you need anything’, he said this in a concerned tone, patted my shoulders, and left.
