Chapter 12

At the office.

I went inside Jack’s room to list out the schedules that he has on that day. I was interrupted when Jack's phone rang, he apologized to me, ‘Sorry, I have to take this’, and he answered the call.

He was speaking to someone and I was just waiting for him. I suddenly heard Jack telling, ‘I found who killed them’.

I was surprised to hear this. when he hung up the phone, ‘Jack, you found who murdered Lauren and Jerry?’.

‘Yes Nora, I found that bastard, my private detective found him’

‘Who is it, Jack?’

‘Its super Lilly’

My eyes wide opened. I stared at him in a daze.

‘Super Lilly?’

‘Yes, it is not just a random burglary, it’s a planned murder.’

‘Are you sure?’

‘Yes, I am sure it’s Super Lilly and his men had done it.’

‘But Why did Super Lilly have to do this? What is the matter with Super Lilly and Lauren?’

‘We have a dye producing factory, which is located out of the city. The dye wastes are hard to transfer to another place. So, we decided to dump it in a pond nearby, which is an illegal activity. Two common men found that and were demanding money to shut their mouths. So, Lauren had contacted Super Lilly to find the men and just to warn them. But instead, Super Lilly killed the men. Since that, Super Lilly started demanding money from my mother. My mother had already given more money to him, but he never got satisfied and killed my mother when she refused to give him the money he demanded. Jerry was killed by mistake. Jerry must have tried to help her and got killed’

‘Oh my god, did the police know this?’

‘I can’t go to the police. If the police came to know, it will affect Lauren’s reputation as well due to this dye factory’s issue. She had committed a crime.’

‘What are you going to do? Just leave it?’

‘What else I can do?’

‘They have murdered. You should not let the criminals live happily. You should go to the police.’

‘No, I can’t’, his face suddenly goes sad.

I came out of his room after telling him about the schedules. I cannot keep my mouth shut. Those people have committed a big crime and had to get the punishment for it.

No matter what, I decided to go to the police. I was worried a little about whether Frank was also a part of it? But I had a hope that Frank would never commit a murder. Murder is not a small crime at all.

But I can relate to the bag full of money with Frank two days after the Lauren got killed and the bloodstain on it. Is that the money that they took from Lauren? Is that the money he was talking about to Jason on his phone? I was totally confused but still, I was determined in my decision to go to the police.

I directly went to the police station from my office and told that Super Lilly had killed Lauren and I did say the dye factory part because I too was worried about Lauren’s reputation, but she was already dead, no one can punish her now for her crime.

The next day, the news headline was, ’The killer is Super Lilly’, ‘Super Lilly Killed Lauren and Jerry’. I saw the same news on every newspaper’s headline. Policemen were searching for Super Lilly.

I did not go to the office for the next two days, because I was a coward to face Jack at the office. Though I did the right thing, I was guilty that I failed Jack. He told me not to tell this to the police or anyone, but I informed the police, eventually, now the whole country knows it.

Frank did not contact me on those two days. I was more worried that whether Frank was involved in any of this.

At night, I heard my doorbell rang. I wished it should be Frank, When I opened, I saw Jack, I was flustered after seeing him.

‘Jack?’

‘you didn’t come to the office, so I just came here to check if you are okay’

‘yeah, I am fine. I just needed a break.’

Before he says anything, I apologized, ‘I am so sorry about Lauren and Super Lilly stuff. I told the police. Super Lilly cannot roam freely, Jack. He deserves to be punished’

‘That’s okay. You did the right thing. If I were you, I cannot say I would have done differently’, smiling at me bitterly, he said this.

‘Thank you’, I smiled back, and we hugged.

‘What the f**k are you doing Nora?’, a hoarse voice from behind.

Oh s**t, it was Frank, as I saw Frank, I tilted up my body to straight since I was hugging Jack. The hug and Frank’s entry did not look right, and Frank became more furious to see me with Jack.

The situation became more frantic due to silence, so I talked casually, ‘Hi Frank, this is Jack, my boss. This is Frank, my friend’.

‘Oh, hello Frank, you guys carry on, I will go’, he hugged me again while leaving. I smiled bitterly at Jack and exhaled strongly.

Once he left, Frank stared with his usual attitude of narrowing his eyes at me like I owed an explanation. I could see his sparkly eyes’ flames.

‘I did not go to the office for the past 2 days, so he just came here to check’, I said cautiously.

‘oh’, he raised his one eyebrow and then approached me, ‘I said stay away from him. Get a new job. You are not going to work for him anymore.’

‘What? No, wait, do you know him before?’

A long silence. I really could not bear his silence. I knew something was not right and probably Frank was also involved in Lauren’s death.

‘So, you know that Super Lilly killed Lauren and Jerry’

‘what? no’, he snapped.

‘What are you talking about? Super Lilly did not kill them’

‘How do you know? You are just a person in his gang. How would know everything that Super Lilly does?’

‘Yes, But I know this for sure, Super Lilly has nothing to do with their murders’

I shook my head as if I did not believe him, doesn’t he know or is he lying to me?

‘Whatever, it doesn’t matter whether Super Lilly killed them or not. You are not going to his company. Get a new job’

‘I don’t think that’s a good idea. He is paying me high.’, before even I finished, he pressed me on the wall, he gritted his teeth, and he said this in a hoarse voice, ‘You do what I say?’, he was staring at me so coldly as if he wants to eat me alive.

I was so scared of him and I just looked down, breathed heavily and my whole body was shivering. He took a step back, he figured it out that he had frightened me as I was still standing tilting my body on the wall just like I was glued to it.

‘I am sorry I scared you.’, saying this, he slowly moved away from me. I know at some point this should come to an end; Our love was never a perfect one. He was a thug and I was a normal person. Our relationship was just a jinx and it will never work out.

‘I don’t think we should meet anymore’, I stiffened my body and said this.

‘I told you I am so sorry about that’, he stretched out his both hands and snapped at me.

‘No, it’s not about you shouted at me. It’s about you can’t tell me what I should do, what I should not’

I could not live like this, suspecting him whether he did the murder and not knowing the mystery of the money on the bag. Now it was found that Super Lilly and his gang were involved in Lauren’s murder moreover he was ordering me not to go to Jack’s office. I could not go anywhere to work since nobody offering me a job.

He narrowed his eyes and stared at me so coldly, ‘Is it because you love him, right?’

‘No’, I hurled at him. That was the first time that I shouted at him.

‘Yup, he is rich, looking SO good and he is the CEO of Nolan’s industries and I am just a goon, right?’

My eyes were full of tears after hearing this. I did not know what to say, should I be angry at him for speaking like this. Or I just broke up with Frank in a wrong time -- just after Jack left.

I was completely devasted and stood speechless, watched him left my house slamming the door so hard. I burst out and cried so badly.

I was looking for Frank, whether he was coming back. Later I realized he really left, and I was completely broken. I felt like I did a mistake, ‘I should have not broken up with him. I don’t know that Frank is involved in Laure’s murder. Maybe he is innocent, I did not know. I did not even give him a chance to explain. He even apologized to me. I was such a fool to break up with Frank though I love him crazily’, I cried so badly.
