Chapter 12

933 Words
Helena remained with Kira for the rest of the afternoon, she ordered food in for her friend, and cleaned up the blood stains. She only left after Kira fell fast asleep after soaking in a steaming hot bath. Helena gingerly put out her hand to Jael, he was just as docile as the reports said, it made her certain that he had only bitten Liam because he was provoked, not that she doubted Kira’s report. “Take care of Kira, okay?” She said to him, smiling softly when he licked her hand in agreement. She left the werewolf and her sleeping friend in her bedroom, letting herself out of the cottage. She had called the director to tell him about what happened, wisely omitting the part about Kira being an Omega. There was no use adding it, it didn’t have any effect on what just happened. She was yet to talk to Kira about it because the situation didn’t allow that kind of conversation but if Kira trusted her enough to be vulnerable with her, the least she could do was keep her friend’s secret. It was just mind-blowing. Omegas were rare and were only born into werewolf nobility. Because they only gave birth to Alphas, they were highly ranked in the werewolf society, right up there with prized Alphas. Was Kira secretly a princess or a noble? It might explain why she kept to herself and never spoke about her family. Helena wasn’t the type to be nosy though, she wouldn’t ask any questions about it and instead, let Kira talk about it whenever she was ready or if she wanted to. Kira being an Omega changed nothing, they were still friends as they always were and Helena would treat her no differently. Fortunately, the director of the clinic had given her the rest of the day off when he heard about what happened, so she could go home to get some much needed rest. She had also told Sheriff Kurt to reach out to her and not Kira if anything happened. Helena wanted to spare Kira the horror of what might become a court case. Liam was exactly the kind of shitty person to sue Kira to court for something that was all his fault, he would probably try to drag Jael down with him but Helena was confident that the case wouldn’t even make it to court. -*- Back at the cottage, Jael had set up shop right beside Kira’s bed, just watching her sleep. His concern grew the longer he watched her sleep. Kira had always been a quiet sleeper but ever since she got into bed, she had been restless, rolling from one end of the bed to another, it made Jael agitated just watching her. Stressed and unable to do anything about it, he placed his upper body on the bed. Kira rolled right into him, finally stilling when she made contact with him. Jael would have sighed and smiled in relief if he could, instead, he gently licked her open palm and the bruise on her wrist before getting comfortable next to her. -*- Kira slept for a long time, waking up only after the sun had gone down. She woke up to find out that she had been cradling one of Jael’s paws like it was a stuffed toy. “Jael?” She mumbled, blinking sleepily. Jael lifted his head from where he had been resting it at the edge of the bed, he howled at Kira like he had many questions but didn’t know how to communicate them. Kira immediately reached out to hug Jael. “I’m fine, I’m fine. I have no idea why I slept for so long, maybe it was the adrenaline. What about you, are you okay?” She asked, leaning back to check his shoulder. Jael howled again, tilting his head to the side as if to show her his shoulder. Kira laughed at the almost smug look on his face as if he was saying that nothing could be wrong with him. “You must be hungry, come on, let’s cook dinner.” Jael looked so peaceful as he sat in his corner and watched Kira move around the brightly lit kitchen. She laughed as she spoke to him and it made him realize that he almost lost her Previously, he didn’t like to attack anyone or be aggressive because he just wanted someone to accept him but for the first time he felt real, burning anger and if Kira hadn’t stopped him, he would have gone for somewhere more vital. “...Jael? What do you think? Should I bake some brownies?” Kira’s bright voice broke him out of his thoughts, her blonde hair like the sun. Jael just stared and listened to her, he could do it all day. It was filling an empty part of him that he didn’t even realize had a hole. “I don’t think you can eat them though… I can’t wait for you to shift back to your human form so you can try them and tell me what you think.” ‘Shift to human form?’ It was something that Jael hadn’t done in a very long time but he hadn’t forgotten how, he just didn’t want to. It was easier to protect his mind and body when he was in his wolf form, so he just remained that way ever since. “Let’s eat first, I’ll bake after.” Kira decided, setting up the table so that Jael could eat next to her like he always did.
