Kira had nearly passed out in shock when Jael had gotten stabbed, she couldn’t believe that Liam had done that. As soon as she got to her feet to follow Jael, she took out her phone to call Helena, then the police.
Her hand was shaking as she called her only friend, blood tracking on her floor as Jael dragged Liam by the collar of his sweater to throw him out of her cottage.
“f*****g mutt.” Liam cursed when he was thrown on the snow, rolling over to his side to clutch at his injured shoulder.
Jael just ignored him and walked over to Kira to sniff at her and check her over. He didn’t seem to care that blood was staining his fur where he got stabbed.
Kira dropped her phone from her ears and practically folded into Jael, throwing herself on the werewolf even though he was the injured one.
Helena picked up the call at this point, her voice cheery. “Hi there! What a pleasant surprise to hear from you…”
Kira didn’t even have the energy to feel guilty about calling Helena when she needed her help. “Helena?” She whispered, her voice shaky.
Helena immediately went on alert when she heard Kira’s tone. “Kira? What’s wrong?”
“C-Could you come over?” Kira asked.
Helena paused for a second like she was contemplating asking more questions. “Sure, give me ten minutes.” The other nurse agreed, hanging up.
Liam started to get to his feet but a loud growl from Jael made him slowly lay back down on the cold ground.
Jael was seated, creating a nest for Kira who rested between his front paws, hugging one of his legs.
Kira wanted to get up and treat Jael’s wounds but she was shaking so much that she didn’t think she could do it. It was easy to rest her head on Jael and close her eyes, her scent of fresh pines clearing out her head.
She didn’t even notice the time pass, not till Helena’s truck pulled up. By that point, Kira’s scent depressants had faded from the rollercoaster she had been on and proof of her Omega status was fully out on display.
Helena hurried down from her truck, her curly red hair up in its usual ponytail. She had been worried the entire drive to Kira’s house that the trauma victim put in her charge had flipped out or worse, so she couldn’t help but stumble a bit when she got a good look at what had actually happened.
There was a dead deer off to the side, the town’s butcher, Liam was injured and lying in the snow while Kira was practically cuddling up to the trauma victim. Jael, was it? Jael was his name.
Helena hurried up to her friend, her voice husky from concern. “Kira? What’s…” She started to ask only to freeze up, blinking in shock.
She had caught a whiff of Kira’s scent and there was no mistaking it, Kira was an Omega. Helena shook her head, now wasn’t the time for that, first, she had to make sure that her friend was okay.
“Kira? Are you okay?” She crouched in front of the large black werewolf. Why was he so big?
Kira slowly sat up when Helena showed up, throwing herself into the other lady’s arms and letting her tears flow.
“Yes but Jael is hurt please help me treat him.” She immediately asked, shaking like a leaf in the wind.
Helena looked up at the Jael in question and although he did have blood in his fur, he looked more concerned about Kira who was breaking down into sobs now.
“I will, I will.” Helena reassured her friend, rubbing a hand over her back. “But I need to know what happened out here so that I’ll deal with it.”
Liam seemed to come back to life at this. “It was that f*****g mutt. Kira asked me to help her out with the deer that this beast hunted down, and out of nowhere, it attacked me too…” He went on a rant.
Jael growled at him, his expression drawn into a snarl, his sharp fangs showing.
“He doesn’t seem to agree with you on that.” Helena said in a dark voice.
“What the hell? Who are you going to believe, me or the f*****g animal?”
His words only served to make Helena angrier. “Shut the f**k up or I’ll let him finish what he started.”
Liam gulped back his words at this, wisely remaining quiet.
Kira mustered up all of her energy to explain what happened and Helena wisely recorded it so that Kira wouldn’t have to say it again. When she was all done, Helena wanted to shift and finish what Jael started herself. Instead, she called up the police, helping Kira inside after she called them. She took Liam’s truck keys so there was nowhere for him to run to.
Helena set Kira up with a blanket and hot chocolate and treated Jael before the police showed up. She only had to wipe Jael down, the werewolf had superior healing abilities and the stab wound had already stopped bleeding before she could even attend to it.
She left Kira and Jael inside the cottage, going to handle the police by herself. There were werewolves on the police team, she didn’t want them around Kira when she was so vulnerable.
“Helena, good to see you.” The Sheriff nodded to her, he had come with two other policemen who were, luckily, also werewolves.
“Hi, Sheriff Kurt.” She returned his greeting, stepping forward to explain the issue to him.
Kurt listened intently, scratching at his scruffy beard. “I was given a report on the patient and our nosy friend here already has a record, you don’t need to be worried.” He reassured her, signaling his men to cuff Liam and place him in the police vehicle.
Liam was cursing up a storm, threatening to sue the f*****g mutt.
Kurt’s jaw tightened. “I’m sorry about that, is Nurse Kira okay?”
“She’s fine, just badly shaken up,” Helena informed the Sheriff. “Also, if it’s not too much trouble, could I ask for your help dealing with the deer? Jael isn’t going to get in trouble for it, is he?”
The Sheriff waved her concerns away, “Technically, it’s Kira’s yard, he didn’t break any rules.”
“That’s good to hear, I have to check up on Kira now, thanks for your assistance.” Helena appreciated the officer. He had asked for the recording of Kira’s statement and she had quickly given it to him, relieved that the case could be quietly resolved.
