Chapter 10

1096 Words
Kira had barely changed out of her wet sweater when the doorbell rang, which had her scrambling to the hallway. “Who is it?” She called out, breathless from her rush to the door. It couldn’t possibly be Liam, it hadn’t even been up to five minutes since she called him. Maybe someone who was passing by got concerned by the deer on her front porch and wanted to ask about it. “Liam, I got here as fast as I could.” The butcher replied, grinning when Kira opened the door. Kira was stunned, ‘he got here as fast as he could from where?’ Had he actually been following her from the market? It was an unsettling thought because he literally admitted to her earlier that he stalked her at her workplace. Now it was just the both of them alone in her secluded cottage in the woods, she really should have called someone else and told them about this. Maybe she could still try calling Helena, the thought of someone else coming to visit might throw him off. “T-Thank you but you didn’t have to go through that much trouble.” Kira stepped backward a bit from how close Liam was to her. “No, I wanted to.” He cut her off, placing both hands on his waist, the sleeves of his sweater were rolled up even though it was cold out. “I’ll take the deer back to my shop and bring it back to you in a couple of hours.” “Thank you once again, I’m really grateful for your help, I don’t know what I would have done with it.” Kira gushed, eager to see Liam gone. “Can I trouble you for a drink?” Liam raised his brow, his beady eyes looking Kira over. Kira had to fight the urge to place her arms around herself, she didn’t want Liam to realize that she was terrified of him. “Sure, let me grab you a glass.” She accepted, tense. Kira had directed Jael to remain in the kitchen because it was best if he wasn’t seen, especially by another human who wouldn’t understand the situation. She went to the kitchen to get the glass of water, unaware that Liam had followed right behind her. She only noticed when Jael who had been giving her his full attention immediately turned sharply to the kitchen door. Kira jumped. “Liam! Y-You startled me.” she placed a hand over her heart, the glass of water in her other hand, luckily it hadn’t spilled. “It was a little too cold outside, you don’t mind, do you?” He drawled, his expression changing to something predatory. “N-No, it isn’t.” Kira forced herself not to back away, she just had to get rid of him and then call up Helena to come to spend some time with her when he came back. “H-Here’s your drink.” She offered with shaky hands. Jael stared back and forth from Kira to the strange man, he was human and the thought made him scrunch up his nose. He could smell Kira’s discomfort which was quickly changing to fear and Jael decided that he didn’t like the human. “Thanks, Kira.” Liam smiled, stepping closer to take the glass. He seemed to be happy about how much discomfort he was causing her. Liam had actually been stalking Kira before she called or as he liked to call it, making sure that she got home safely, the woods could be really dangerous, you know. He had been concerned about her new pet considering that it had brought down that huge deer without no visible signs of struggle, but one look at the docile but ridiculously large dog had eased his worries. Liam palmed the knife in his pants as he wrapped his fingers around Kira’s wrist instead of the glass cup, if it came down to it, he would just take care of the wolf-dog. Kira gasped at him in surprise and it made Liam want to take her there. She couldn’t be real, right? No one could be this beautiful and be human, right? He planned to take her back to his house, it wasn’t good for her to live all alone in these dangerous woods all by herself, he was just looking out for her. “L-Liam? W-What are you doing?” Kira stuttered, her eyes going wide in horror as she tried to pull away to no avail, water spilling from the glass cup which fell from her hand to the wooden floor. “Taking you back with me.” He grinned maniacally, pulling her closer with the harsh grip on her wrist. “I’m merely looking out for you…” He trailed off to hold her jaw in the same punishing grip and force her to kiss him. Jael stiffened at this, razor-sharp eyes fixed on the human. Kira had told him to sit still but her terror kept spiking with every one of his inhales, it made his muscles tense so tight that they were starting to hurt from how much he was holding himself back. Then the human made the grave mistake of trying to take Kira away. Jael didn’t register when his limbs moved, one moment he was sitting on pins and needles in his usual corner, and in the next moment, he had tackled the human to the ground with dangerous snarls, about to rip out his neck. Kira’s voice was the only thing that broke through his haze. “Jael! No! Don’t!” Kira panicked. She had fallen to the ground from their tussle and it hurt, but she couldn’t let Jael hurt Liam because the law would only take it out on him. At the moment that Jael was distracted from listening to Kira, Liam took out the knife he held and stabbed Jael in his right shoulder. This made the werewolf howl in pain, Kira’s screams mixing with the sound. Jael knocked the knife out of the human’s hands and then returned the favor by digging his sharp teeth into his shoulder. He let his tongue out after this as if he was sickened by the taste of the human’s blood. Kira could only sit and watch in frozen horror and Liam screamed like he was getting his head ripped off. She finally pushed herself to her feet when Jael started to drag the yelling human out, moving carefully so that he wouldn’t knock anything over.
