Chapter 4

"Stay here while I shower real quick." Kira directed Jael after gently guiding him into the room. It was spacious and consisted of a big bed, there was a side table beside it and a wardrobe against the far wall. Kira was relieved that she hadn't gotten to setting up the room yet, fewer things meant more space for Jael to move around. Jael whimpered as she turned to go, giving her puppy eyes. "I can't take you to the bathroom with me," Kira stated, internally pleased at how quickly he was getting attached to her. "The kitchen is big enough though, so you can keep me company while I cook lunch." She reassured him, making sure to lock the door behind her. It wouldn’t keep the wolf in if he really wanted to leave though, but it was better than nothing. Kira showered again for the second time in a row, hoping that this wouldn't become a routine with Jael. When she went back for the wolf, she found him sitting patiently behind the door, ears perked up as he waited for her. Kira eyed him warily. "Don't lick me and we'll be fine." She said to him, reaching out to touch his fur. She wanted to establish a solid relationship between them so she could eventually convince him to shift to his human form. "Come along now." She gestured with a hand, sighing with relief when he didn’t try to lick her this time. They were making progress of sorts. "I don't know how long you've been in wolf form, but it doesn't matter, it's best if your diet consists mostly of meat…" She rambled to him as she cooked lunch. Jael just watched Kira move around, quietly sitting in a corner. He should have hunted down food but she didn't let him out. He could easily take care of himself even in the wild, but he wanted somewhere to belong, so he didn't want to get her upset. He didn't want her to send him away, this was the first place he actually liked. He was warm and she was so nice to him. Kira made Jael's steak rare, it was just a couple of temperatures higher than raw. But it was perfect, she didn't want the meat to lose the quality nutrients that Jael would need. When she was all done, she put her plate on the small dining set up in the corner, it seated just two people. Then she took the tray that held the slab of meat and made a move to bring it to Jael. He moved first though, making his way to the table in careful movements so he didn't knock anything down. Kira gasped in surprise, there was no way that there wasn't a human trapped in Jael. "You want to eat with me? Sure!" She exclaimed happily, placing the tray at the edge of the table. They were making such very good progress already. Jael was caught off guard at her reaction, he had expected her to be upset at him for wanting to eat at the table. All he ever wanted was to fit in, so this made him feel warm inside. He dug in, eating eagerly, only to pause and look at Kira watching him eat with wide eyes. It was his first cooked meal in his entire life and it was so delicious it made him want to howl, but he didn't. Because the females he stayed with first didn't like him howling. "You like?' Kira asked, her eyes twinkling. Jael howled without thinking, making Kira laugh and clap at his excitement. "That's good to know." She smiled happily, relieved."We should go on a walk after lunch, I don't want you cooped up in the house." She explained to him. Kira was certain that Jael could understand her, so she found herself talking to him constantly. She worried at her lower lip as she cleared up the dishes to put them in the sink. According to the report on Jael, when they tried to shift to coax him out of his wolf form, he had gotten terrified. She didn't want that to happen, so she would have to be careful shifting around Jael. It would be a hassle to try to keep up with him in her human form, but she would have to make the effort. It was really cold outside though, Kira shivered at the mere thought of it. So she bundled herself up in her thickest coat, making sure to wrap a scarf around her neck, the last thing she needed was to get a cold. "Jael, come on." She invited him when she was all set to go. He had settled down in a corner of the living room, his big fluffy tail swishing around. She could tell from how he watched her intently whenever she passed by him, that he wanted to follow her around. She wouldn’t have minded if he weren't that size, he would just end up knocking over and breaking stuff, so she was impressed by his self-control. Kira had taken one of the scarves she knitted herself for Jael, it was rather big, so it was perfect for the large wolf. She was trying to include him in her daily routine so it would become familiar enough for him to want to give it a try himself. They stepped out of the house and Kira locked the door behind them out of habit although there was no one around for miles. "Wait a moment." She stopped Jael when he was about to run forward. "It's cold out so you need a scarf too... Don't run too far ahead, I can't keep up with you with my little legs…" She lectured him while struggling to get the scarf around his neck. Jael listened intently, his dark eyes fixed on her. "Now," She sighed, patting his coat. "Let's get going." Jael obeyed, walking forward gingerly, his head held high almost like he was showing off his new scarf. Kira laughed hard, her cheeks flushing. It was cold outside but she felt a little bit too warm in her winter coat. She was coming to realize that she didn't hate how things turned out, it was only the first day and yet she was already looking forward to the rest of the months she would spend with him. He was her best patient yet. Kira shook out of her thoughts to find Jael way behind her, walking even more carefully. They were in the woods now and the huge wolf picked his steps, his big paws stepping hesitantly on the grassy ground. Kira stopped and took a deep breath, it was like taking care of a child. "It's fine if you get your scarf dirty or it rips, I can make you as many as you want." She muttered dryly. Jael glanced in her direction as she said that, bounding over happily. "Ah!" Kira exclaimed when she felt him nudge her back, he then ran in front of her and went around in circles a couple of times as if to hurry her up. "You're one to talk," Kira grumbled, she had been waiting for him only for him to catch up and then call her slow. She couldn't keep up with him though, naturally. Jael ran forward and back multiple times like he didn't want to lose sight of her. Kira stopped to catch her breath, her entire face was red and her hair was coming undone from the ponytail she had put it in. "Perhaps this was a bad idea." She mumbled to herself, watching Jael literally run circles around her. She wished she had some of that boundless energy, even when she shifted, Kira did not find herself wanting to run around all the time. Maybe she was just a lazy Werewolf. Jael came over to her when it seemed like Kira had hit her limit, she couldn’t walk anymore. The hard life wasn't for her. "Sorry for ruining your walk." She huffed breathlessly to him, her hands finding their way to the fur coat on his neck. Jael was naturally warm, his fur protecting him from the cold further. "Well, technically, you ruined the walk." She added sassily under her breath.
