Kira woke up an hour and a half later. Jael was already awake but he sat quietly, watching her sleep.
“Hey.” She whispered, her voice sleepy. “How was your nap?” She asked, ruffling his hair before straightening out her sheets and pillows.
Jael stomped a foot and went back to quietly watching her. He noted that she slept quietly and didn’t move a lot in her sleep. Jael didn’t need a lot of sleep so he woke up earlier just so that he could sniff her and just keep watch over her.
“I’ll take that as a positive review.” Kira smiled brightly. “Do you want to join me to make dinner?” She offered but before she could get all her words out, Jael was already on his feet and heading to the door.
Kira just shook her head and walked forward to open the door for him. Although, she supposed that opening doors was something the werewolf could do himself considering that he left his room to lie in front of her bedroom door.
Dinner-making went smoothly, Jael quietly sat and watched Kira some more as she moved around the spacious kitchen, preparing dinner for them both.
Kira thought that she would find it weird to suddenly have a roommate after years of living alone, but she didn’t mind it. Not even when Jael did nothing but curiously stare at her the entire time.
Jael joined her at the dinner table again and afterward, she headed to the living room. Jael followed right after her and Kira put on the television, bringing out her knitting equipment.
“Jael? What would you like to watch?” She asked conversationally.
Kira constantly spoke to Jael whenever she could, it didn’t even feel odd to her that he couldn’t respond.
Jael walked up to the television and plopped down beside it, looking to Kira and back to the glowing screen again.
“You know what a television is right?” She prompted, holding out the remote.
For the umpteenth time, Kira wished that they had more information on Jael, it would undoubtedly make her job easier.
“It’s a big screen where you watch things on.” She explained kindly. “Here, just howl if you see something you like.” She directed him.
Jael leaned closer to the television as the screens blinked to show different scenes. His tail swished absently as he concentrated.
Kira smiled softly, studying his reactions to the stations. He barely blinked when news stations came on and only c****d his head when a cartoon went by. An action movie caught his attention and had him following the car chase scene that showed on the screen.
Jael’s quick howl caught Kira off guard. He had howled for a rom-com and without hesitation, she placed the remote to the side to let him enjoy the show.
His choice was rather interesting and although Kira didn’t pay a lot of attention to the movie as she was knitting, Jael was fully engrossed.
It made Kira think that he wanted to watch a romantic comedy because it had all the things he probably never got, love and laughter.
Kira blinked rapidly to force back the tears that were welling in her eyes, Jael was such a sweet person, why would anyone want to be mean to him?
She hunched over her knitting, her eyes blurring up so much that she could barely see what she was doing. She wanted to knit a better scarf for Jael and a hat as well since he would be going out every day.
So she didn’t notice when Jael sniffed out her tears and distress and immediately hurried over.
Kira jumped a little when she felt his cold nose nudge her arm. “Oh, hi there.” She beamed at him through her tears, her voice was shaky. “Did I distract you?”
Jael very hesitantly licked her cheek as if to comfort her but he also didn’t want to get scolded like the first time.
Kira saw the concerned worry in his dark eyes and immediately wrapped her arms around him in a hug, letting out a little sob as she did so.
“I’m fine, I’m fine.” She reassured him, rubbing his back and sides. “You’re going to miss your movie.” She pointed out, lifting her head to dry her eyes.
Jael didn’t seem to fully trust her and instead of returning to his position by the television, he remained by her side. This made Kira genuinely smile as she returned to her knitting.
When it started to get late, Kira got to her feet to stretch out her stiff muscles. She had managed to get through a quarter of the scarf which was a lot of progress as the scarf was going to be very big.
Jael shot to his feet as well, like he had been waiting for her to make a move.
“You’re ready for bed too?” Kira asked, giving in to the urge to ruffle Jael’s fur. “How were the movies?” She asked conversationally, looking past him to the television.
She was sure that he had watched at least two movies by now and even though she was starting to get sleepy, she had been ready to stay up for as long as he wanted. Jael was her job at the moment, after all, she was still getting paid although she was on a leave.
His happy howls told Kira everything she needed to know so she put off the television and walked Jael to his bed.
But went she tried to tell him goodnight and leave, he just got off the bed and followed after her. “You want to sleep in my room?” Kira quickly figured it out, a slight exasperation in her voice. “But your room is perfectly fine to sleep in.”
Jael just stared at her expectantly, making no move to return to his bed.
“Fine, fine.” Kira gave in quickly as always. “Let me let you out first then, I don’t think you can handle a toilet just yet.”
Just like with their afternoon nap, Kira placed the same blanket over Jael, giving him a pillow as well before getting comfortable on her own bed.
