Chapter 3:The Visit.

1571 Words
A ding from my phone stirred me awake, indicating that I had received a message. Wondering who that might be,I unlocked my phone before increasing the brightness of the device, just to see tons of messages and voice mails from my best friend, Lydia. Certainly, she had heard about my leaving the state, and I was more definite she was really mad at me. All of this would surely be courtesy of my mom. She knew how to blackmail me, using Lydia, but it definitely wasn't going to work this time around. Pulling the duvet off me, I played the first voicemail, knowing well enough that I wouldn't listen to all the voice messages. Lydia is a sweet girl, but she sure damn knew how to make you feel terrible about an already made decision, especially when she doesn't like how the outcome would turn out. Voicemail 1: "Melia, what the f**k did I just hear from your mom last night?" She said in her tiny squeaky voice. "You had better be joking." Sighing, I stood up from the bed and dallied to the shower, still listening to the voicemail. "You have a lot of explanation to do, little missy." I increased the tempo of the shower. "Running won't solve anything". My mom really did put her up to this. It's annoying how everyone just wants me to always listen to them, because they feel they are right. I mean, I get it, in this situation, they are right, but then cut me some slack, damnit! I deserve a breather. If she were in my shoes, she would have done the same. I was quite certain about that. Turning off the shower, I left the bathroom when the last voicemail played. "You better be fully awake and ready to serve me some explanation when I come over this morning." Taking a deep breath, I was already anticipating a peaceful day, but then the universe had something else planned out for me, or should I say 'my mom' had something else waiting in store for me. Skipping a step or two down the stairs, I walked towards the kitchen. My stomach grumbled. The reason for that action was spotted on the kitchen island. There sitting peacefully and perfectly placed was a delicacy I'd long craved; some toast, sunnyside eggs, bacons, mashed potatoes and veggies, all cooked to perfection. Beside the platter was black coffee, just how I like it, with two sugars and no cream. Making a mental note to call my mom and thank her for the nice maid who prepared the meal. I devoured the meal and - oh! It was good. Biting the last piece of toast on my plate, the doorbell rang. The constant shrieking of the doorbell gave away who its assaulter was. Standing at the other side of the door was my best friend Lydia, looking all red in the face, with her lips set in a straight line. It definitely was going to be a long day. Opening the door, no good morning was said, rather she waltzed into my abode like the queen that she was. "Good morning Lyds." I said, smiling sheepishly. All I got was a pushed up lip. Someone was rather not in a good mood. "You know, you have nerves, Melia, blood curling nerves." Looking me straight in the eyes, with anger in her voice. " You really wanna just up and leave, without letting me know." She continued "after so many years of friendship, I got to know you were leaving through your mom. I thought we were best friends". There goes the emotional blackmail. "I'm sorry Lyds, It was my intention to tell you later today". I indeed planned on telling her after breakfast, that was my plan. "Why? Why do you want to leave at such a crucial time?" Her eyes tore up a bit. "Now, when I need you more than ever, Melia. My babies need you too." She sniffed. "I know Lyds, but I have to do this." Rubbing her shoulders to keep her calm. "I need you to be there during the baby shower, it's important their godmother be around." Staring at me with her baby blue eyes. "I'll always be there for them, Lyds, and you know that. Distance is definitely not going to be a problem." I did mean that. Apparently, Lydia found her mate when they were both 19yrs. Caleb Wright was Lydia's mate. He is the beta of the Red Oak Pack. Although, Lyds can't stop talking about how sweet and amazing of a person he is. As much as he was her one time crush in high school, I believe she genuinely loved him, loved her mate and all in-between. Their love was beautiful, something I sure did hope for. Pulling her in for a hug, I decided to offer her a meal before her pregnancy hormones started displaying their true colors. "Care for anything, Lyds?" Opening the fridge to check what was available. The maid did some grocery shopping, the fridge was stocked to the brim. "I've got chocolate whipped cream and strawberries, I'm definitely sure you'd love some." Grinning at her, she had no choice but to smile, further turning her cheeks red. "You know, this reminds me so much of Caleb and our role-play in bed." Giving her the too much info look, I shook my head with a sigh of disbelief. "I honestly wasn't expecting that and this would be the last time you'd be having such at my place", making a hand motion to the snack. We both laughed at that. "I mean, coupled with the fact that you won't be anywhere close by for a rerun, I think I'd enjoy all of this and more in the meantime." She said with a forced smile. It genuinely wasn't my intention to sadden the hearts of the ones I love, with my whole scheme of going away, but I had to do this for myself. It was this or me forever wallowing in self-hurt and deceit. I hated being left out from the feeling of being loved, I wanted to love and be loved and seeing the ones I love with their soulmate while I stayed all alone and hopeful, was indeed heart shattering. Of course, I was happy for my mated friends but at the same time sad for myself, and it sure was a whole rollercoaster of emotions and of which I was tired of dealing with anymore. So, if me wanting the best for myself was me going down the selfish lane, then tag me as an offender and jail me right away. The hours rolled by, and it was time for Lydia to return home. "How long would you be gone for, Melia?" She asked, "would you ever pay us a visit, from time to time?" "Give or take, a few months and not for long. So long I get to find my mate in the process". Seeming unsure," Yes, I'd visit from time to time." "What could I do without you, Lyds? Nothing makes sense without you." This made her smile. Reaching for the door, turning the handle, she opened the door. Surprisingly, we came face to face with my Beta Dylan. I couldn't help the loud disgruntled sigh that escaped my lips, which earned me a slap to the butt from Lydia. While exchanging pleasantries, Lydia went out of the door and into my abode came Dylan. "Hey, Melia. How are you?" Dylan asked while taking a seat. "What a pleasant visit, Dylan, it's quite a surprise," I said, trying to tease him. Dylan never paid a visit unless it was important. He wasn't one to waste time on irrelevant things, or so he says. Chuckling, he said, "Melia, it's not like that, don't be that way". Smiling sheepishly, "it definitely isn't what you think". "What I think? Oh! Trust me, I'm not thinking about anything". He really knew how to crack me up with his silliness. "I just came to see you and know how you're fairing" he said, staring at me with concern in his eyes. "That's not the reason you're here Dylan," I stared at him "I know you've heard already, considering the fact that you're my beta". Scratching his head, he said "yeah, about that I heard, and I think you really should follow your heart Melia". I was astounded to hear such from him. Although Dylan was a supportive friend and beta, I was expecting an outburst from him, and discouragement. He never ceases to amaze me most times. "Yeah, I definitely will do that," my heart felt light after hearing what he said. "Thank you, Dylan, you're a good friend". Hugging him tightly. "I had best be on my way then," he said. " Don't want to be late for dinner, be sure to take care of yourself, Melia". "I certainly will," I replied, "thank you". Walking him to the door, I said "take care of yourself and my regards to your dad". "Sure, I'll be sure to let him know," he said while exiting the house. Shutting the door and ensuring the lock was in its place, I was still amused by the conversation. Still in shock, I made a short trip to the kitchen to fix myself a quick dinner. Today's events were enough to make me eat like a glutton.
