I am Your Fiance

In her sleep, Vay smiled at herself, making Sakira shudder at the sight of her friend. Curious, Sakira got up from her chair and approached Vay, who was still fast asleep. The young woman was mumbling in her sleep while hugging a bolster. "Ah! Prince! Where are we going?" Vay muttered dreamily. Sakira shook her head, feeling sorry for how lonely her friend must be to dream in such an unusual way. "Hey, wake up!" Sakira called out, patting Vay's arm several times. However, Vay remained sound asleep, as if unwilling to leave her amusing dream. "You lazy girl! Wake up right now!" Sakira shouted, this time directly into Vay’s ear while pinching her nose. If she had not woken up this way, Vay could have slept even through an earthquake. Startled, Vay finally woke up. "Ugh, what is it, Sakira? I was having a beautiful dream!" she grumbled in the drowsy tone of someone who had just woken up. She sat in the middle of the bed, her eyes still heavy with sleep. "Don't tell me you were dreaming about a prince again!" Sakira said flatly, narrowing her eyes with suspicion. Vay let out a small laugh and said, "How did you know?" She then got out of bed and tossed aside the bolster she had been hugging. As usual, every weekend, Vay stayed over at Sakira’s place. Not only to unwind but also to escape her father’s persistent questions, which were becoming increasingly difficult to answer. "I feel like going for a jog!" Vay exclaimed as she opened the curtains, letting the morning sunlight in. "Who knows? Maybe I’ll meet my prince along the way!" she added, stretching her body and letting out a big yawn. The fresh morning air invigorated her. However, before she could step outside, Sakira grabbed her wrist and looked at her seriously. "Hey, young lady. Instead of fantasizing about something that will never happen, you’d better head home. Uncle Richard called me earlier and asked you to return immediately!" Sakira said firmly. Vay’s eyes widened in disbelief at what she had just heard. "Oh my God! What happened? Why did Father call? This isn’t like him! Did I do something wrong? Is he angry? What is going on?" she asked in a panic. Sakira merely shook her head, used to Vay’s dramatic reactions, especially when it came to her father. "Rather than bombarding me with endless questions, you should go home and ask Uncle Richard yourself. Okay?" Sakira said while pushing Vay toward the bathroom. If not forced, the girl would keep asking nonstop until her ears burned. "Do you want me to take you?" Sakira asked as she watched Vay hurriedly pack her scattered belongings. "No need! I need to get home right away. If Father calls three times, it must be something important!" Vay replied, pressing her cheek against Sakira’s in a brief farewell. "Take care, Vay," Sakira said as Vay stepped out. Vay drove her car at high speed, her mind filled with worry, imagining all sorts of worst-case scenarios. All this time, whenever she stayed over at Sakira’s, her father never searched for her. But if he had gone as far as calling Sakira to summon her home, it had to be something serious. Upon arriving home, Vay quickly parked her car and rushed inside. However, she came to an abrupt halt when she noticed a man standing with his back to her near the palm tree in the corner of the yard. The man appeared to be on a phone call. Vay squinted, trying to recognize the unfamiliar figure. But given the urgency of the situation, she decided to ignore him and hurried into the house. As soon as she stepped into the living room, she saw her father, Richard, sitting on the sofa with Maya, her stepmother. "Father!" she called out, rushing toward him and immediately embracing him. Richard, surprised by his daughter's sudden affection, asked, "What is it, Vay?" "Are you okay, Father? Why did you suddenly call me? This isn't like you!" Vay asked anxiously, pulling away from the hug to examine her father's face with concern. Richard chuckled at his daughter’s antics. He knew how deeply she feared losing him. "I'm perfectly fine. I called you because there is something important I need to discuss," he replied, gently stroking her hair with loving affection. "You really worried me, you know!" Vay pouted, her lips pursed in a sulky expression. Maya, who had been watching them, smiled and said, "Honestly, Vay. Even though you’re about to get married, you’re still so spoiled." Vay was instantly taken aback. "Married? What do you mean?" she thought. How was that possible? She did not even have a boyfriend. As her mind spun in confusion, a deep, composed voice suddenly broke the silence. "Apologies for the delay," the man said. "It's no problem," Richard replied, gesturing to him to sit down. Vay turned to look at the man, perplexed. She did not recognize him, but she had to admit that he was undeniably handsome. Dressed in a black suit, he exuded authority. His sharp, piercing gaze carried an air of dominance, as if capable of hypnotizing anyone who met his eyes. If Sakira were here, she would surely make a sarcastic remark about this stone-faced man. "Vay, sweetheart. Let me introduce you—this is your fiancé!" It was as if she had been struck by lightning in broad daylight. Vay’s jaw dropped in shock, unable to believe what she had just heard. "Father, please tell me you're joking. Because if you are, it's not funny!" Vay forced a laugh. But this time, Maya reinforced the statement. "No one is joking, Vay. He truly is your fiancé." Vay's face turned pale as she slowly shifted her gaze toward the man, who was now standing directly in front of her. With unwavering confidence, the man extended his hand toward Vay, who was still frozen in disbelief. "Ethan Harisson. Your fiancé." His tone was calm yet firm, leaving no room for argument. Vay's body weakened, and before she could process everything, her consciousness began to fade. She wished this was just another dream—like the ones she always had about a prince on a white horse. But reality proved otherwise. It was not a prince who had come for her. Instead, it was a cold, enigmatic stranger who suddenly appeared and claimed to be her fiancé.
