After I play the role of a traditional wife for seven years, my husband finally shows his true colors—a devil who marries me for my inheritance!

To take everything from me, he and his mistress not only murder my uncle but also drive my maid to her death. After poisoning me for three months, they even lock me in a dungeon!

This time, I make a narrow escape and seek the help of Felix, the notoriously ruthless underworld boss and arch-enemy of my ex-husband.

However, he demands no payment for his help but only my love.

Chapter 1 I've Been Poisoned for Three Months
I was drugged. Not with some love potion, but actual poison! My name is Dinah Holt, 25 years old. To everyone else, my life looks perfect—not only do I live in a lavish estate, but I also have a wealthy, powerful husband who dotes on me. His name is Nahum Rex, the right-hand man of Solhaven's underground entertainment empire, and I'm a woman who lost everything. We've been married for five years, thick as thieves. Nahum cherishes me dearly, so he keeps me away from the public eye. I'm tucked safely at home as the lady of leisure, basking in luxury. But since last week, something's been off... My sense of smell became haywire, sleep escaped me, and I'd been throwing up nonstop. Nahum brought in his personal doctor, Amanda, to check on me. "Congrats, Dinah—you're pregnant, and both you and the baby are doing great." Amanda reassured us with a smile after examining me. Hearing that, I shot up in bed. I clutched Amanda's hand tightly with disbelief in my eyes. "Really? I'm pregnant?" "Yes." She nodded at me with a smile. Amanda was my cousin and a well-known doctor in Solhaven. Her confirmation had me caressing my belly. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked up at Nahum and said, "Honey, did you hear that? I'm pregnant. We're finally going to have our own baby." Nahum, seeing my excitement, soothed me gently. "Yeah, I heard that, babe. You're going to be a mom." I couldn't contain my joy and nodded frantically at Nahum through my tears. Since the day we married, I knew Nahum had always wanted kids. But for the past five years, my belly had shown no signs of life. Thank goodness, now I could finally bear his child. With my maid on leave, Nahum arranged for Amanda to stay and look after me. She cooked up a storm for me daily and made sure I took my prenatal tonics with every meal. Though the tonic was a tough swallow, for the sake of our child, I stuck with it over the past three months, not wanting to waste a single drop. One day, I had just downed my tonic and was ready to catch some z's, but I felt parched and decided to head downstairs for a glass of water. As I rounded the corner to the stairs, I spotted Amanda lounging on the sofa and chatting on the phone. "She's already taken it. Just relax," Amanda said. Normally, this wouldn't raise an eyebrow, but something about her demeanor caught my attention. She kicked off her shoes and sprawled on the couch while stroking the calico cat that I had raised for five years. She looked every bit the lady of the house. This was strange—Amanda was always proper, never touched my things without asking, especially not my cat. Her casual pose made me pause and eavesdrop on her following conversation. It seemed like someone on the other end said something that ticked her off. She let out a snort and complained, "Look, I've been putting up with her for three months, and it's been a nightmare. Don't start painting me any pretty pictures now..." 'Putting up with me? She thinks it's a hassle to take care of me?' I wondered in confusion. Lost in thought, I almost missed her next words. "She even looks forward to a baby. If she keeps up with the dose I've set, I bet she'll bleed out and die right in front of me in a month." 'What? Die?' I screamed loudly in my mind. My heart pounded. Amanda wanted me dead! The tonic she'd been giving me wasn't to help my pregnancy. It was poison to kill me. Realizing this, I felt like I'd been struck by lightning, and my limbs were all numb on the spot. Amanda wasn't just my husband's personal doctor; she was my cousin. I thought with her ties to us and Nahum's generous pay, she'd genuinely care for me during my pregnancy. But unexpectedly, she'd been poisoning me for the whole three months! Thinking of this, I sprinted back to my room and straight into the bathroom, desperate to purge the poison. I couldn't let anything happen to my baby, not let my child be another one of her victims. "Don't move." As I was retching my guts out, a chilling male voice cut through the haze. That icy tone was terrifying, sending a shudder down my spine. Then, the cold barrel of a silver handgun pressed against my temple. Feeling the deadly cold, I felt my nerves snapped to attention, and I instinctively raised my hands. "Please, don't kill me," I stammered and swallowed hard, my body frozen in fear. My voice shook as I tried to bargain, "Just keep me alive, and I won't tell Nahum a thing. I promise, you and her can take the money and run." I had a gut feeling this guy was in cahoots with Amanda. After all, I just found out about the poison truth and then immediately faced a gun. It seemed too coincidental. I couldn't help but wonder, 'Have they dropped their act because they knew I found out about their scheme?' The criminal motive nowadays was either revenge or greed for money. Amanda and I had no bad blood, so I was betting this was all about money. "And her?" the man asked with confusion in his tone. "Yeah, I won't call the cops. Just name your price; my husband will meet it," I explained cautiously. The man let out a cold scoff. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him step closer, and I even captured a faint smell of tobacco and blood. 'Is he hurt?' I thought. As my mind raced with confusion, he said, "I don't know what you're talking about." After a pause, he added, "If you want to live, keep quiet." His words rendered my mind to race even faster. He was injured, and he seemed to be confused about my words, which indicated he and Amanda weren't actually together. Maybe they weren't allies after all. I screamed loudly in my mind, 'Oh my God, am I being held by some random criminal? An enemy of Nahum's, or just a burglar?' Regardless of who he was, I was in deep trouble and couldn't call out for help, nor did I know how to escape. "Dinah?" When I was at the end of my rope, Amanda's voice came from outside the bedroom. She tapped gently on the door and added, "Dinah, are you up?" Hearing Amanda, I instinctively looked at the man, but before I could get a good look at his face, he pressed his gun to my lower back. "Go open the door," he whispered threateningly. He gave me a push, and I stumbled forward, too scared to even glance back. "Dinah? I heard noises in your room. Hurry up and open the door," Amanda called out and jiggled the doorknob. I knew she was clearly getting impatient.
