A New Chore
Endora POV
Too many preparations needed to be done before tomorrow's ceremony, I cleaned the sweat from my brow sitting back admiring my work. I can admit that I’ve never had a great life here in the Cold Moon pack, but I could make a decent living now. Maybe in the beginning when they found I was wolf-less, but now I have my friends and for that I am grateful.
“En I truly can say you are one of the hardest working wolves I’ve ever known,” Maggie called from across the hall. “Hell knows these other omega’s barely wanna lift a finger.” Her words in jest. Maggie was an older she-wolf, her blonde hair in Senegalese twists style was tied up with a black ribbon. Her honey dew eyes are bright and fierce. Her skin was beautiful like velvet, a gorgeous tawny color as if Apollo himself had kissed her. She may be outdated as some wolves like to claim but she was one of the most brutal warriors during the last cataclysm.
Nora rolled her eyes and laughed, ringing out the mop to continue cleaning the walk way. Our little crew was the smallest in the pack but we all loved each other and worked together to finish quicker. Nora was on the smaller side, a runt even among omegas. Her soft blonde hair had gentle waves in it and her emerald eyes were a nice contrast to her olive skin. She had a soft girl next door style but her mouth was anything but that.
I giggled and tossed the rag into the bucket when the chip of the alarm went off letting the pack know our alpha was arriving.
“Alpha Thorn, why is he here now?” Maggie looked towards the screen showing the approaching SUVs. “Our inspection isn’t even till morning. En go to your room.” Maggie hurried me. “Don’t come back out until we come get you doll.”
I nodded as she closed the door behind her. I let out a soft breath. I hated dealing with the Alpha and his family. Though Alpha Thorn never treated me badly his way of dealing with me was acting as if I didn’t exist; his son and daughter in law were not as kind as their Thorn. Though I hadn’t had to deal with them in just a bit over a year after the last incident.
I shook away the thought from my mind as I kneeled by the door to hear what was being said. Even if I didn’t have a wolf I still had heightened senses.
“Alpha Thorn I didn’t expect you here until tomorrow morning for inspection, what is the pleasure,” Maggie performed.
“I thought I’d just get it done tonight,” his voice echoed in the bare halls. I let out a breath of relief that nothing had happened in the pack. We only had 4 rooms in our omega cabin. We were outcast but Thorn never wanted to show weakness to other packs so he kept us hidden on the outskirts. The Cold Moon Pack had never had a wolf gone rogue and they refused to let anyone leave unless they were mating to a higher pack.
I stepped back and walked over to my vanity. My black roots had begun to show, I’d have to get Nora to dye them tonight. My black hair was seen as a curse here in the north-east. I had to use mana dye; dye infused with magic to keep the black covered once a month.
My finger traces along my neck where the scars remained of the incident. I just wanted to forget it. I haven't had a single night of good rest since then. I can still feel the glass gliding across my skin. I shuddered at the memory and looked away from the broken mirror.
Moving to the rough bed, thoughts of what still needed to get done flooded my head. Our cabin had been cleaned top to bottom and we had done our part in the kitchen and garden. We still needed to take roll cutlery…wait no I hopped up from the bed and grabbed the chore list. “Gods be damned,” I sighed seeing my name signed next to clearing and preparing a room for the Alpha King. Seeing the hand writing my name had been signed with I knew who had done it. Clara the future Luna of this pack.
“I just don’t get why she hates me,” I flopped back onto my bed. This is basically a death sentence. That man doesn’t like anything and can fly off the handle at any moment. His fits of rage and malice can burn entire packs to the ground in mere moments.
There is no info on him at all outside of what the rumors are. Mean, cruel, abusive, wrathful those were the only things that I’ve heard.
A deep knock on the door echoed in my room. “Endora, open the door, it is urgent that I speak with you.” Thorn commanded. My body moved without thought, opening the door just enough he could see my face. “Yes Alpha,” I bowed my head.
“You used to dance right?” His eyes scanned what he could see of my body before reaching my face. I gave a single nod. “Okay tomorrow you will perform in booth 7.”
“I’m sorry?” Confusion crossed my face. Booth 7 in the main hall was a burlesque booth. “I don’t dance like that any more.”
“I wasn’t asking you. One of the dancers got hurt on a pack run and we need you to take her place.” His voice is definite. There was going to be no way of getting out of this. “Just relax and perform the way you used to. You were the best as I recall.” He smirked. I could see the twitch in his pants as he remembered those days.
I looked away, my confidence I had built this past year fading into the shadows of the cold lifeless doll I once was. “That’s a good girl,” his hot rough hands lifted my chin forcing me to look into his eyes. “Don’t fret my son won’t be anywhere near you.”
“Thank you sir,” I could feel the tears screaming to fall but I refused to let them. No, I would never cry for this family again. Thorn let a low growl before turning and walking back out of the home.
My feet gave out of me and my entire body collapsed as Maggie and Nora rushed over to me. They helped me to my bed both cursing the Alpha for making me do this when it was well known what happened between his son and I. I never wanted to dance again after that night even though it was the only time I ever felt free. He shattered my soul that night and this past year has been nothing but piecing it back together. My body instinctively went into a fetal position with a pillow in my arms. Thoughts of my life as a dancer flashed in my head both the freedom and the pain.
“Nora, you and I will clean the King’s room,” Maggie said hushed so low I could barely make it out.
“No,” I mumbled. “It’s my job I will do it.” I sat up.
“En no baby let us,” Maggie brushed my hair off to the side. “Just try and relax.”
“Then let all three do it together. We will be done a lot quicker and I don’t want to be alone right now,” I countered with a stern look before we all laughed in agreement.
