Sofia Rossi had once lived in a world full of colour and light. She had a best friend who knew her better than anyone. But all of that changed one fateful morning on the way to school.

The accident stole her sight and her best friend's life, leaving Sofia in a world of darkness she never asked for. It wasn't just her eyes that suffered. The world around her seemed to shift, forcing her into a life where she was either pitied or dismissed.

She was now the “infamous” daughter of the Rossi family. Her parents tried their best to include her, making sure she never felt lesser.

But the world wasn't always kind.

Especially her peers.

Sofia rarely attended parties, but when her mother convinced her to go, she caved.

A few hours of pretending she wasn't the talk of the room wouldn't kill her, right?

Except it did.

The moment she stepped in, the whispers started. She could feel the eyes on her, the judgment, the curiosity, and then came the cruelty.

A few minutes outside, some group of girls decided she was the perfect entertainment for the night, which quickly escalated to physical abuse.

And that's when he stepped in. Zain Ricci didn't do heroics. But when he saw Sofia being assaulted, a fire ignited burst through his veins.

He didn't know her, only heard her cry of pleas.

One moment, he stood by his car. The next, she was cradled up in his arms.

She hated feeling weak, and she hated sympathy. Hated being seen as fragile.

But Zain?

He didn't treat her like she was breakable.

And for the first time in years, Sofia felt something other than fear.

A new emotion.

Zain should have walked away that night.

But he didn't.

Days had turned turned into weeks, and he found himself drawn to her in ways he couldn't explain.

She was stubborn, shy, and frustratingly closed off, but that only made him more intrigued and interested.

Sofia, on the other hand, did not want to see him

She had spent years building walls and closing off, refusing to let anyone close enough to hurt her again.

And yet, Zain kept showing up everywhere she went.

She pretended it annoyed her.

But deep down, she knew the truth.

She was terrified.

Not of him.

But of the way he made her feel.

Eventually, the Ricci magic worked.

Zain had a way of making her laugh when she didn’t want to, of making her seen, nor as the blind Rossi daughter, but as Sofia.

And before she knew it, they were dating.

He surprised her and took her to places she never thought she'd experience again.

Showered her with flowers daily, each becoming larger.

For the first time in a while, Sofia felt…happy.

But then, she found out the truth.

The signs had been there all along.

The way people spoke about him in hushed tones.

The fear. The way he always seemed to know things beyond ordinary man should.

But Sofia had ignored it.

Until the truth slapped her in the face.

Zain wasn't just a charming, mysterious man who had walked into her life.

He was The Zain Ricci, heir to one of the most powerful Mafia families in the city.

And she had fallen for him.

Hard.

The fallout was immediate.

She felt betrayed, lied to, used. The man who made her feel safe was the same man who lived in a world of blood and violence.

He lives off the fear of people and craves destruction.

Zain tried to explain, tried to make her understand that he was still the same man she fell in love with, but Sofia didn't see past the darkness of his world.

So she left.

And this time, he let her go

But love wasn't that simple.

Malcolm had been waiting for an opportunity like this.

He had always hated Zain and had always wanted his downfall. And now he had the perfect leverage.

Sofia.

She had no idea she was being watched.

The abduction was swift, brutal ,and merciless.

One moment, she was at the park, and next, a cloth was pressed over her mouth.

When she woke up, she was in hell.

Bound and bruised .

Trapped in the grasp of a man who only wanted one thing, Zain's suffering.

Malcolm didn’t care about Sofia. To him, she was nothing but a pawn in his game.

A way to bring Zain to his knees.

The torture was slow, calculated, and cruel.

And this was breaking her.

She didn't know how much had gone by.

Didn't know if she'd ever see the light of day.

And then one n,ght, in the midst of her agony, she heard his voice.

Zain had found her.

And he was out for blood.

Zain Ricci had always been feared. But thar night?

He became something else entirely.

The rescue was clean. It wasn't quick. It was a m******e.

By the time he reached her, she was barely conscious. But she was alive.

That was all that mattered.

But Sofia wasn't the same.

Zain couldn't undo what had been done to her, but there was one thing he could do.

He found a doctor abroad, a world-renowned specialist who had been working on eye surgeries. He pulled every string, and she underwent the surgery.

And when the bandages were removed, when her, the first thing she saw was...

Him.

CHAPTER 1
Growing up, my parents tried to make sure to involve me. They did everything to make sure I never felt different. Yet at every event, every gathering the whispers always followed– The Rossi blind daughter. What a shame. I wasn't always blind. Once I could see the world in all its colour. It was just an unfortunate event that happened on my way to school. The day I lost my best friend and my sight in one cruel stroke of fate. I stood beside my mother at her friend's daughter's graduation ceremony, the familiar mumble of the crowd and the unseen gazes of strangers settling heavily upon me. "Sofia, dear, can I get you something to drink? Water?" my mom asked, her voice soft lacing with concern. “No, I just need to step out, I need some fresh air. It's a bit stuffy here.” I said, fidgeting with my hands. “Okay dear, let's go” She offered, already leading me outside, while reaching for my hand. “N..No, I can go by myself, mom. Go have fun.” I said with a grin. I wanted her to go to her friends and have fun, not hovering and worrying over me all the time. “You're sure, sweetheart?” she asked, concern laced in her voice. “Yes. Ma. Go.” I giggled, hoping to reassure her. I took my cane and carefully made my way outside, welcoming fresh air. As I stood outside, the cool evening breeze wrapped around me, a brief moment of peace. But the chattering of girls nearby made me suddenly feel uneasy. Being out here alone suddenly didn't seem like a good idea. Suddenly some girls came over, then I felt a sharp pull on my hair, making me wince. “ Well, well, well, if it isn't the blind bat.” I recognised that voice instantly. Beth. The girl who bullied me ever since we were kids. “Wh…what do you want, Beth?” I asked as my voice trembled, and tears stung the corner of my eyes. “ Oh nothing” she drawled, amusement thick in her voice. “Just here to show you my graduation certificate.” Laughter erupted around her. Then mockingly, she gasped “Oh, shoot, I forgot, she's blind.” More Laughter. “I guess we're gonna have to take her to the place” her voice dripped with wicked delight. Panic surged in “Beth, what place?” I whispered, tears streaming down my face freely. “How dare you question me, you low life?” she spat before slamming a fist into my sides. I fell down, crying from pain. The laughter around grew louder. My scalp seared with pain as Beth dragged me across the ground by my hair. “Please Beth! Don't do this!” but all I got in return was laughter. No one could hear me. No one was coming to save me. The thought sent fresh terror coursing through making my cries even louder until a fist slammed into my jaw. ”Shut the hell up b***h” Beth hissed. I whimpered, tasting blood on my lip. “Now”, she said, her breath heavy with exertion. “you're gonna repeat after me.” “Wh…what, I.. I don't understand“ my voice wavered, barely above a whisper. Before I could process what was happening, Beth shoved my head down into water. Panic surged in and I was struggling to breathe. Cold liquid rushed into my nose, my lungs burning from lack of oxygen, as I thrashed. I was losing consciousness slowly, I thought of my mom. I saw my life flash before my eyes. Was this the end? Until I heard a voice. “What are you doing to her?” A voice boomed. Suddenly, I crashed to the ground struggling to breath. My lungs, desperate for oxygen. They all disappeared into the night “Are you...okay?”
