THE KILLER SLUGSThey were on the move, advancing killer slugs as inevitable as the coming dawn, and with only one purpose in life: to devour as many humans as possible, to slime against tanned urban ankles and curled shrimp toes, to tickle with quivering tentacles the delicate leg-hairs of their victims. Their onslaught would be methodical, horrible, and relentless. At night, as the damp earth slept, the slugs would leave silvery, slimy trails that led unerringly toward the city's teeming millions, unaware that they could be easily trod upon by careless joggers or run over by speeding vehicles, or simply ignored since their advance was necessarily so slow. In the daytime they would hide their undulating, pulpy bodies in rank grass and tall weeds, or beneath the dark underbelly of dank rock
