THE AMUSEMENT PARKThe amusement park lay buried behind the trellised framework of weeds that rose high into the air. Rusted metal joists sang a mournful dirge with the wind as a crepuscular dark descended toward the ground like a hovering lover desirous of one last kiss before departing. Shadows coalesced, moving like dark clouds on a windy day. The Ferris wheel lay on its side, crushed skeletal remains trapped underneath one large carriage, while The Roter – a rapidly revolving barrel whose floor would suddenly drop – turned lazily in the wind. Inside the decaying wooden barrel, abandoned clothes rustled as the wind sought refuge between dandelion and horseweed growing through the various cracks at the bottom. A congregation of bones lay about in haphazard fashion, the screams now silent
