SERENITY
After a month, I was finally released from the hospital, but no matter how many times Tyson tried to get me to eat or drink, I refused. "Serenity, you haven't had a morsel of food at all. You've lost at least ten pounds."
"He killed Rosey."
Tyson sighed. "I know."
"How did you find me?"
"It was a stroke of luck for us."
"I died, Tyson. I swear."
"I thought so too."
"I did, I swear to God."
"Well, whatever happened, the doctors revived you somehow."
Tears slid down my cheeks. "I was so scared, Tyson. Being locked up for almost five months and..."
"Shhh..." He lightly brushed his fingers through my hair and kissed my forehead. "No one will ever harm you again, I promise."
"But..."
"No buts, Serenity. They are both locked up for good. Get some rest, okay? I have some things to do."
She nodded and after a couple of minutes, she drifted off to sleep.
TYSON
"What's this surprise you've been talking about?"
I grabbed the small box out of my desk drawer and handed it to Shepard. "This."
"You're proposing?"
"It's been on my mind for months."
"But we didn't even know if she was alive."
I shook my head. "I had a gut feeling we would find her, Shep."
"And you're really thinking about proposing to your 20-year-old girlfriend? You're 32 years old, do you really think that's a good idea?"
"I don't give a s**t about the age gap anymore. She's the one I want to be with, man."
Shepard shook his head. "I think you're crazy, but you do you. When are you planning on doing it?"
"I'm planning a dinner for us next weekend."
"You better hope she says yes."
"I know she will."
"You seem awfully confident."
"Because I am. I know she will say yes."
I know Shepard wasn't fond of the idea, but I had one goal for my future: to make Serenity my wife.
