TYSON
*** Two weeks later: "They can't save her, Lewis. It's too late."
"I'm not leaving until I know."
"Lewis... Listen to me. She's gone."
"No she isn't!"
"If she was, she would've woken up by now and..."
"Mr. Lewis?"
I noticed a doctor standing in the hallway looking at me. "That's me."
"We revived her, sir. She's awake."
Shepard raised his eyebrows and followed me to her room. She had IVs in her arms and an oxygen mask over her mouth, looking extremely pale, but I noticed the heart monitor beeping and the slight rising lines. "Tyson..."
I knelt down next to her and grabbed her hand. "I'm here, Serenity."
"W-where is he?"
"In prison, baby. You're safe now."
"It was a miracle we were able to save her. The surgery thankfully went well, but after she slipped into a coma, we never thought she would wake up."
I looked at the doctor and nodded. "Thank you. So much."
"I didn't want to break the news to you, so I am very thankful she survived, but I'm so sorry for your loss." He said, looking at Shepard.
"Did you find out the other victim's name?"
"The medical examiner identified her as Danielle Stephenson. She was 16 years old and her cause of death was strangulation and gunshot wounds."
"God..."
"I called her parents." Shepard said quietly. "It was the hardest phone call I've ever had to make."
All I could be thankful for was Serenity's survival.
