For almost a minute, I didn't react. I was unable to. My mind couldn't come up with anything that made even a little bit of sense.
I could not help but wonder if he was telling me this because he regretted what he did to me. But the scar was too deep, and crack between us could never be mended.
"They were friends, you know." Lucien said, taking me by surprise. "My father was the Alpha, while yours was an Elder of the pack and his closest friend."
A heavy, unyielding weight settled in my throat, difficult to swallow. I looked away from Lucien, feeling a pang of guilt even though it was not my sin. But while he mourned his family, I lived a good life with the man who murdered them.
