Lucien said, taking me by surprise. "My father was the Alpha, while yours was an Elder of the pack and his closest friend." A heavy, unyielding weight settled in my throat, difficult to swallow. I looked away from Lucien, feeling a pang of guilt even though it was not my sin. But while he mourned his family, I lived a good life with the man who murdered them. "Your father got jealous of mine. His money, his influence and the love everyone had for him.
