CHAPTER 1
Standing to see the new day, I was all alone in the house; there was no one with me. I was an only child and was still an orphan. I grew to see only my grandmother, but she left me when I was twelve.
I was carried away with thoughts of my past and totally forgot about the party that would be held in the palace. The Shadowfangs pack was having a memorial party, and I was among the maidens who were selected to serve the guests. I almost even missed the time of which I was going to prepare for the party. Immediately took out some good dresses, put them on, and went off to the palace immediately. On reaching the palace, I saw one of my friends, Amanda, who was standing waiting like she was expecting someone.
“Look who I've been standing here all alone waiting for you to come,” Amanda said immediately. She saw me coming towards her.
“What was that supposed to mean?” I was curious about what she meant.
“I was supposed to be the one asking you that question, which you just asked me right now. I have been waiting for you for too long here, and you come to ask me what it was supposed to mean,” Amanda said, her voice high with fury.
“But we didn't make any appointments to meet here,” I said.
“Oh, must we even make any appointments before meeting each other? I would have come directly to your home, but you should know how strict my sister could be. She had to drag me here along with her. Are you even being serious right now?” Amanda asked, sounding surprised. “Oh, you should know how to be well by now. It was just a joke. Okay, well, I was here too late because I didn't even remember that I was doing anything here today, but immediately I did. I had to rush down here. I'm sorry if I kept you here all alone,” I said, pleading.
“It's okay; let's just get inside immediately before every place fills up with the crowd. You know this is an open event. We should get ready for any kind of message,” she said.
We both left inside, discussing what was ahead. Furthermore, we discussed the charming men of different packs and how they would visit and make friends with others.
As the party began, I served drinks to the Shadowfang Pack's guests and all the pack members who attended the party as well, my eyes cast down. That's when I saw him—Damian Moon, the future Alpha King. Both of us caught sight of each other for a second, but immediately I had to disconnect my eyes from his. I was so ashamed of myself immediately I looked at him. He was charming and good-looking but I still didn't have to stare at him that way. Curiosity washed over me as I slowly looked up to see him again, not knowing that he was already by my side.
He stood out with his chiseled features and piercing gaze. Our eyes met, and I felt a jolt. He approached me, his smile captivating.
"Hello, I'm Damian Moon,” he said, his voice deep and smooth. I curtsied, trying to hide my nervousness. “Allison Carter, sir.” He asked me to join him for fresh air, and I hesitated before agreeing.
“Why don't you join me to have one or two drinks together? It would be even better if I got to know you more. I'm genuinely interested in you,” Damian said, his voice low and menacing.
“I… I'm actually not sure of what decision to make, but I'm sorry I can't go with you. I apologize for declining the offer, sir,” I said as I stammered and shivered as well.
“Why are you afraid? You don't have to be okay. I'm the same as you are the difference between us. It's the fact that you are a female wolf and I'm the opposite. Why don't you join me and have some drinks together? I really want to get to know you more than just your name, Damian said.
“It's obvious that we are in the crowd now, and I wouldn't want to cause any problems for myself. I have no one to talk to for me. Okay, can't we just stay in our lane, please? I'm not worth having the same table with you. I'm just a slave to this party, and I would appreciate it if I continued being one, please,” I said, pleading.
First he chuckled before replying. “I know you might think that having a drink with me isn't worth it, but now I'm the one asking you on this, okay, and you have nothing to worry about; I just want to get to know more about you other than your name,” Damian said. This time I was forced to accept his words, but I still had my doubts within me.
“Are you sure about this?” I asked, my voice shivering.
“You can trust me okay; there is absolutely nothing wrong with you sharing the same table with me,” he said as he gave me his hands to hold. I was so frightened having a walk with Vuk as he held me warmly. I was left with a mix of feelings but couldn't deny the fact that I was so pleased to be by his side. As we walked outside, Damian's charm put me at ease. “You can have the seat, okay? I'm so pleased with you here with me. I really have to tell you this, but you are the best thing that happened to me today,” he said as I smiled dearly.
He asked about me, and I shared my story. He listened intently, his eyes filled with kindness. I felt a connection with him, and my heart skipped a beat. For the first time, I felt seen and heard. Damian's presence was intoxicating, and I couldn't help but be drawn to him. Little did I know, this encounter would change my life forever.
