ALPHA HUNTER

2238 Words
The path was lonely and bushy and Cassandra found herself looking around the empty quiet town, wondering where on earth they were heading to. She was sandwiched at the middle, with Nick and some other guy whose name she had come to know as Kane, and Cassandra kept shifting uncomfortably as the truck sped off. She was beginning to question her decision. Had she been right to leave overnight with some strangers? Yea, Nick had once stopped her from killing her friend but she couldn't trust him just yet. Besides, it had been two years since that happened and people could change for the worst within those years, even werewolf, right? It didn't even help that the drive was silent and just when Cassandra felt she couldn't keep quiet anymore, they arrived at a huge metallic gate with the bold word: MOONWALKERS, inscribed on it. Cassandra stared out in a daze. Two guards were standing at either side of the huge gate and they both looked similar to Nick's built, all muscles, all rough-looking, and all business. Their faces were as hard as a rock and they stood upright like trees, without moving. Cassandra watched as Nick nodded towards them and the mem lowered their heads respectfully as they let the truck through. They pulled into a dirt driveway and Nick turned left. Cassandra glanced around, glad that she could finally see some houses, but when Nick stopped in front of a huge house behind huge trees, Cassandra gasped. The house seemed to be at the center of the territory and it was the largest house, compared to those around it. It was big enough to accommodate one thousand people and the landmark looked like it belonged in a painting. A lake could be seen from behind the house and Cassandra could not find the perfect word to describe the beauty in front of her. "We are there," Nick announced. "Wow!" She exclaimed and Nick tossed her a smile. "This is the packhouse. The house of the alpha and the luna, but sadly our alpha doesn't have a luna yet." Nick's lips pulled up in sadness and Cassandra's interest was piqued. "Why?" She asked, pulling the seat belt that had been tightly draped over her stomach away. "He just hadn't found her," Nick sighed. "I know he will one day but Hunter doesn't think so. He claims not to be bothered though, he keeps joking that the moon goddess is doing one of her daughters a favor by not giving one to him, but I know it's getting to him and that's why I want him to find her quickly. Why am I even telling you all these?" Nick turned to look at her with a frown and she shrugged, "Why shouldn't you?" "Sometimes, I feel you bewitch me into saying more than I intend to say." Nick shook his head, opening the door and jumping down. Cassandra rolled her eyes at that and she gasped when she realized Kane wasn't beside her. She hadn't noticed when he left the truck, so she pulled the door open, preparing to jump down when Nick offered her a hand. She rolled her eyes but took his hand, adjusting her dress the moment she was down. Due to Nick's constant pestering, she had only had the time to pack her things and not to change into much more comfortable wear other than the skimpy red dress she had worn to the club. "It's time to face the alpha," Nick whispered into her ear and she turned, her heart skipping the moment she saw a tall man standing at the porch of the house with his arms folded. He was very tall and though the men Cassandra had seen by the gate had been terribly ripped, Cassandra could tell this man was more. He was dressed simply in a white shirt and the shirt clung to his sweaty body, aligning his toned muscles and ripped build. He was so tall and mere staring at him, Cassandra felt intimidated. His dark brown curls fell a bit over his forest-green eyes and though he wore a huge frown on his face, he looked so ruggedly handsome, it made Cassandra's heart pound in her chest. God! Who would have thought Hunter would grow up to be this freaking hot? He had always been a handsome kid, but being this goddamn handsome hadn't been what she had been expecting. Their eyes met and locked for a split second, and Cassandra held her breath, wondering if he would recognize her. But when he looked away, shifting his gaze to Nick who was now smiling sheepishly at him, Cassandra heaved a sigh of relief. "Hi, Hunter!" He waved slightly. "Don't tell me you were worried sick about me that you couldn't sleep?" Hunter remained quiet, his gaze hard as he stared at his beta and Nick coughed slightly, placing his hand over Cassandra's neck. "This is a homeless wolf we met on our way here. Her name is. . ." Nick looked at her, realizing that she hadn't told him her name all that while. "Olivia," Cassandra rolled her eyes and Nick smiled. The identification card Ginger had made for her had Olivia as the name and Cassandra figured it was safer to go by that name since no one here knew who she truly was. She would hate to give Hunter some clue about her identity because that would shatter her plan and she would never be able to find her mom's killer. "Her name is Olivia, the homeless wolf." Cassandra cringed at the sound of that and she threw him a questioning look but Nick kept looking at the alpha. "I know, I know. I couldn't just leave her behind especially when she could die." Cassandra raised a brow at that, shifting her gaze to Hunter who was still glaring at his beta. Though he wasn't saying anything, Cassandra could tell he was communicating with Nick and as Nick kept answering, she knew she was right. They were communicating in some kind of way. "Oh, this?" Nick's eyes descended to her dress for a moment before he turned to look at Hunter. "I couldn't bring her to you dirty and ragged, so we stopped to buy her a dress so she could look presentable." Hunter finally looked away from Nick, locking his gaze with Cassandra for a moment, and slowly, his eyes swept over her body, from her head to her toes and up again. Cassandra held her breath as he looked her over, but when he shook his head and said, "Take her back to where you found her. She could be some spy." She frowned. She would have found herself drooling at the depth of his deep voice had she not been offended by his words. She knew he was just being protective of his pack but his words had hurt her, especially when he had looked at her that way. "Of course, she isn't," Nick shook his head, dragging her attention to him. "She's really gonna die If I leave her out in the woods. You won't say no to a homeless wolf, will you?" With another hard look, Hunter walked into the house, sparing her no more glance, and Cassandra found herself deeply angered by that. Who did he think he was? Looking down on her just because he had some title now? He was still as rude and proud as before, little wonder he didn't have a mate. How would he attract one with this cold and demeaning behavior of his? "So, I guess you're staying with us." Nick turned to her with a grin but she glared at him instead. "I'm not a homeless wolf. I have a home!" She spoke through gritted teeth and Nick raised a brow. "Really?" "Yes." She seethed. "Why do you wanna join our pack then?" "Because. . ." She threw her arms in the air. "Because you made it sound so cool but honestly, I'm so disappointed. It isn't as cool as I pictured." "Oh yeah?" Nick smirked, pushing the strands of his dirty blonde hair off his face. "Yes." Her frown deepened when he only chuckled, shaking his head at her like she was a kid. She fumed as she watched him signal to one of the guards who wasted no time in coming. "Escort her to one of the rooms the omegas stay. She'll be staying with us from now on." Nick explained, directing the guard to the boot of the car, before disappearing into an opposite building with a woman who had been standing by the door all along. The building was just as beautiful as that of the packhouse only that the packhouse was much bigger and mightier. The guard carried her luggage for her, leading her into the packhouse which was just as magnificent as it looked from the outside. It looked like those castles she had watched in Disney as a kid and she marveled as they walked deeper into the house. The guard stopped before an elderly woman with a strong demeanor, dressed in a black gown, and he walked away after informing her what Nick had said. The woman nodded at her to follow and Cassandra dragged her luggage behind, wondering where she was being taken to. They stopped at a black door and the woman pushed it open, the dark sight of people sleeping coming to display. There were about twenty bunks arranged by both sides of the wall in the large room and each bunk faced each other, leaving a large space in the middle of the room The woman pointed at one of the empty bunks at the end of the room and Cassandra nodded, pulling her luggage up and walking quietly so she wouldn't wake any of the sleeping people. She heard the door shut and she turned to look, realizing that the woman had left the room. With a sigh, she dropped her bags by the side of the lower bunk, plopping to the bed and stretching her stiff limbs on the surprisingly soft bedding. She would have loved a warm bath, but since she didn't know where to have one and was too tired to change into something more comfortable, she shut her eyes to sleep. She had barely closed her eyes when she felt a weight on her bed. Her eyes flew open and she was greeted with the sight of a beautiful pair of hazel eyes staring down at her. "Are you sleeping?" She heard the girl whisper and she slowly pulled herself to a sit-up position, shaking her head as she stared at the little girl sitting on her bed. She was about ten years old and Cassandra had never expected to see a child that young there. "I just wanted to say hi." The girl grinned, exposing a set of white teeth. "You're new here, right?" "Yes." Cassandra nodded still looking surprised. "You're staying with us now, right?" Cassandra nodded again and the girl flashed her with another beautiful smile. "I'm Gabrielle. I hope you like it here cause I do." Cassandra smiled at her, reaching out to tuck some lock of the girl's blonde hair behind her ears. "Why do you like it here, Gabrielle?" "Because Alpha Hunter is here." The girl replied in a heartbeat and Cassandra couldn't help a frown from crossing her face. Amongst all answers to be given, she had not expected to hear this. "Hunter?" She creased her brows and the girl nodded vigorously. "Why?" "Because he's funny and I enjoy his company." Hunter? Funny? Cassandra couldn't believe this. "Alpha Hunter found me wandering about when my parents died in the attack, so he brought me here even when I was from the rogue pack." Rogue pack? Hunter saving someone? Was this why Nick said Hunter couldn't pass by a homeless wolf? Oh seriously? Who would have thought Hunter had that side to him? All this new information was too much to handle but Cassandra smiled at the girl, tucking her hair behind her ears once again. "You're very beautiful!" She whispered and the little girl grinned, reminding Cassandra of herself as a girl. "That's my bed over there," the girl pointed and Cassandra nodded. "What's your name?" "Olivia. Now you should get some rest now." She patted her head. "I slept throughout the day because I didn't feel too well and Alpha Hunter asked grandma to spare me. So I don't feel sleepy at all. I can keep you company if you want - " "Oh no!" Cassandra was quick to say but when she saw the girl's countenance fall, she quickly added, "that will be later. I had a long day today and I haven't slept a wink. I'm so tired right now." She explained and the girl nodded in understanding, flashing her a bright smile once again before scampering to her bed. Cassandra smiled at that, lowering herself to the bed and shutting her eyes. Funny how her well-drafted plan of so many years changed in a few minutes. She had told Gabrielle that she would be staying with the pack but the truth was, she would leave immediately if staying here wouldn't provide her with any important information into finding who was behind her mother's death. With a sigh escaping her lips, she dozed to sleep.
