I sat there quietly as I waited for my uncle to continue his story. I was curious about my past and wanted to know about my mother's necklace. It bewildered me that the man that I now know is my uncle and my mother's twin had the same exact pendent as she did and it only enhanced my curiosity more.
"Well, your grandmother was officially mated to Christopher. They had to be mated for at least a year to prove they could handle the stresses of running a kingdom. Not long after they mated, she found herself pregnant with her first child. A daughter. The kingdom was thrilled to hear that their was already an heir on the way. Not long after that, they were officially wedded and three months later, Princess Amelia Elaine Morales was born. The kingdom celebrated the birth of the new princess by inviting all the kingdoms for a welcoming ball. It was then that the truth was finally let out.....When the King announced the newly wedded couple and the new princess somebody stepped forward and challenged the king for breaking the rules. It was then that the unknown man told everybody in the royal court that Prince Christopher was none other than the banished Prince of Warlock Kingdom. When the King questioned the prince he admitted to everything. He was actually not the princess's true mate but actually put a spell on her that made her feel the feelings that mates felt towards each other. Once the King heard of this Christopher was handed back over to his kingdom where he was killed for breaking the law. The werewolf kingdom was in hysterics. They were torn between following rules and killing the new found princess or allowing her to live. Well in the middle of the night your grandmother took her daughter and fled the kingdom. The kingdom searched everywhere for the princesses but they just vanished. The kingdom was heartbroken at the loss of their beloved princesses but life went on afterwards. The king and queen had a son who later became king and the family still rules to this day." He stated sadly.
I tried to wrap my head around what he told me. It was all confusing for me to understand and there was still many questions left unanswered.
"But Uncle, what happened to her? You still haven't explained what the pendants mean." I asked confused.
Uncle Scott cleared his throat before continuing. "Your grandmother ran from the kingdom and all the surrounding lands. She ended up sailing to America with her daughter in tow. They were accepted in a new pack here in North Carolina and that was where she raised her daughter. Well, as the daughter grew older she started showing that she had special abilities. She could levitate things. Read minds and control the elements. She was growing to be something powerful. On her 16th birthday was when the moon goddess visited her and bestowed her this necklace. It has the ability to harness her powers and help her better control them. And as time when on, each child that descended from that bloodline, one out of every generation, was born on the blood moon. And each time they had powers, but not everyone had the same powers. Eventually your mother and I were born. We were the first twins of the blood line and because of that the moon goddess came and gave me this necklace. Your mother and I were had separate powers but were more powerful together. Her powers were beautiful when she wanted it to be." He smiled fondly.
"I can't help but ask, but what were the powers?" I asked him.
"Well, your mother had the ability to manipulate water and plants. On her happy days, wild flowers would bloom everywhere. She could keep even the most hardest to care for plant alive. But...when ever she grew angry, so did the plants. There was a time her and I got into a fight. She screamed at me and vines shot out of the ground. If mother hadn't of calmed her down I can't tell you whether or not I would be here today." He replied.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, the vines had wrapped around my entire body. It started to constrict my throat and my mother ran out there to try and stop her, while she calmed your mother down, our father ripped the vines away. To say it scared her was an understatement. After that day she refused to use her powers. As time went by, she slowly began using them again but always in secret."
"Wow...that is amazing. What are your powers Uncle Scott?"
"Well....let me show you." He smiled a mischievous smile at me and stood up. I watched in amazement as sparks appeared at his finger tips. Light blue light crackled as he manifested a small person. I giggled as he placed it on the floor and it danced around me. Something magical before he snapped his fingers and it disappeared.
"Wow! That was amazing! What was that?" I asked in shock.
"I have the ability to manipulate electricity. When combined with your mother's ability to manipulate water, we were a deadly force. It was how we became such a well known pack....but after she left I stopped using it....." He trailed off sadly. "Your mother never told anybody she left. We just woke up one morning and she was gone. We searched everywhere for her. Called every neighboring pack in the state. Nobody saw her. It wasn't until a year later I received the first letter from her stating that she was ok and safe...To say I was both relieved and angry was an understatement. I couldn't call her so all I had was just letters. I wrote her back asking if she was ok and well and that's how I found out that she had found her mate. Every week I received a letter from her. The last letter was received after your 5th birthday, after that it went silent."
I watched on sadly as he tried to compose himself. "She died three days after my birthday." I told him.
"I figured so after what you have told me. She was very secretive about her whereabouts. I didn't even know she had a daughter that was born on the blood moon. Our family has hidden our powers for generations because we always had some alpha trying to use us as a weapon of war. Seeing how your father is, I see why your mother never told him." He stated. His forehead creased as he looked up at me. "I take it your brother knows? About your abilities?" He asked.
I nodded my head. "Yeah....mom and dad were fighting and I hid in my room. I heard my mom scream and I started crying uncontrollably. When my mother finally came to console me, my father came in and snatched her from me. I....I watched as he hit her over and over again. When I screamed something happened. He just flew across the room and hit the wall. He was unconscious for a week. When he finally woke up he didn't remember anything of that night. My brother saw what happened though and him and mom told me I had to conceal it. So, after mom passed away, the years passed and I got older. Eventually on my 16th birthday, I got my wolf. My brother had to race me into the woods. We went far off the territory so nobody could find us. I shifted then and there and I went on my first run with my brother. Afterwards though, Cade told me nobody could know. So I've been hiding my wolf for three years." I finished.
"But how did you conceal your scent? When you shifted your scent would've changed to that of a werewolf." Uncle Scott asked confused.
"Well after I shifted, my abilities got stronger. I was able to mask my scent of that of a human. So when we went back to the house nobody knew. I started working out to try and hide the fact that I had gotten more muscle from the shift. People just thought I gained it on my own. But you and I both know you can't stop the restlessness of a wolf, so once a week, Cade took my out running to give Shadow the freedom she deserved." I stated. A look of disbelief clouded his eyes after I finished talking. "What?"
"Your wolf," Scott started. "Her name is Shadow?"
I nodded my head, still not understanding why he looked so surprised. Right when I was about to ask though, Xavier came back into the room. He looked between the doctor and I, a weird look on his face that he quickly masked before I could figure out what it was.
"Well Doc, is she ok to leave?" Xavier asked.
Uncle Scott shook his head before standing back up from his seat.
"Not quite yet, I would prefer to make sure everything is healed properly before she can leave. So for now, she can just have visitors." Uncle Scott stated before walking towards Xavier. "And you boy, I know you're my alpha, but that girl there," he said pointing towards me. "Is special. If you hurt her, I'll have no choice but to beat you to the edge of your life, do you understand?"
All Xavier could do was nod his head in surprise as the doctor left the room. Xavier's eyes followed him until the door clicked shut and he turned back to me confused.
"What the hell was that about? Do you know him?" He asked me.
I smiled happily, nodding my head. "Apparently, he is my uncle that I never knew I had. My mom was his twin."
"Wow...small world." He blew a breath out before coming to sit in the chair where Scott once sat. I watched him cautiously as a guilty look took over his features. He leaned forward, grabbing my hand as I watched the silent battle in his eyes.
"Cassidy....I...I'm sorry for what happened. Some of my guards love Elise, more than what I would like, and get extremely defensive over her. The guard that attacked you is being punished in the dungeons for a week and is being demoted to an omega after the stunt he pulled....if I had known that would've happened I wouldn't of had them take you." He finished sadly.
I felt my anger boiling as I snatched my hand away from him. Slight fear clouded his gaze as he looked at me. "SO THAT'S ALL YOU CARE ABOUT?!" I yelled at him. "ALL YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT IS THE FACT THAT HE NEARLY KILLED ME AFTER YOUR ORDER OF HAVING ME ESCORTED AWAY FROM YOUR w***e OF A LUNA?!" I screeched angrily at him.
"Cassidy...I..." He started but I quickly cut him off.
"Xavier, if that is all you are sorry for then get the f**k out of here. You still refer to her as somebody who is still important to you. If you and everybody love her so much, then please do us all a favor and f*****g reject me. I will NOT sit by and allow some poor excuse of an alpha lock me away for defending myself against some stuck up bitch." I growled angrily.
Xavier stood up quickly, causing the chair to clatter to the ground loudly. "Defend? DEFEND!? YOU ATTACKED HER FOR NO REASON!! SHE ASKED YOU A QUESTION AND THE NEXT THING I KNOW YOU'RE ON TOP OF HER BEATING THE s**t OUT OF HER FACE!" Xavier roared angrily.
"THAT f*****g w***e OF YOURS SLAPPED ME ACROSS THE FACE BECAUSE I TOLD HER TO BACK OFF AND LEARN HER PLACE. I DIDN'T LAY A f*****g FINGER ON HER UNTIL SHE DISRESPECTED ME BY SLAPPING ME LIKE ONE OF HER MAIDS! SO NO, f**k YOU XAVIER! GET THE f**k OUT OF MY ROOM BEFORE I DO TO YOU WHAT I DID TO HER!" I screamed.
He opened his mouth to say something but doctors and nurses came rushing in. It was then that I heard the heart monitor blaring angrily in the background. Before anything else could be said, the nurses were forcing Xavier out of the room. His eyes looked at me panicked and concerned before they shut the door, cutting off his intense gaze. I felt the calming affects of the medicine they put in my IV and gave into the drowsiness of sleep. The last thing I heard was the soft beeping of the heart monitor before the world went dark and peaceful.
*********
Xavier's POV
You're a d**k. My wolf growled angrily. You upset mate!
"What the hell did you expect to happen Nightshade!? She attacked Elise! Am I suppose to just stand by and tolerate that kind of behavior?" I sighed, frustrated.
Yes. She is our mate. Elise is a toy. Get rid of her before I do. Nightshade threatened before cutting off the mind link. I rubbed my temples aggravated. Once Nightshade realized she was his mate, he completely shoved Elise out the picture. I knew she was nothing more than a set up but now that I've found Cassidy, everything has been one headache after another.
"Goddess, what am I gonna do?" I groaned.
"Women are destined to make our lives hard man." An unknown voice cut in. I spun around and saw my beta standing there. "It's just choosing which one is worth the headache." He chuckled.
"But how do you choose? Destiny or contract?" I sighed. "And before you say it, yes I know I should choose destiny, but how many people have to die before it ends?"
Chris walked over to the balcony next to me and leaned against the railing. "Life's hard man. There are going to be battles you want to avoid that you just can't. It just depends on how you handle the battle."
He looked at me and I know I looked like a broken man. I shook my head pacing the ground.
"Do you love her?" He asked me suddenly.
I snapped my head up at him in surprise. "What do you mean? Who?" I asked him.
"That there is only a question you can answer Xavier." He replied.
We stayed silent for a moment. I found myself lost in thought. I never thought about the repercussions of when I did finally find my mate. Deep down, I just assumed I never would find her. I looked back up at Chris and saw sympathy written on his face.
"I gotta get back to Emily, but Xavier," He said walking up to me and placing his hand on my shoulder. "You have to make a decision soon. The mate bond can only hold on for so long before she starts to grow bitter and pull away. I don't want you making a decision and it already be too late. I know Elise was our childhood friend, but finding your mate is a special thing in itself that shouldn't be taken for granted. You know where to find me." He finished before pulling me into a hug. "I love you man. Regardless of your decision you know I always got your back."
I watched as Chris walked back into the building, leaving me to my thoughts. His words were true and I knew I couldn't keep either woman waiting. Regardless somebody will be hurt. But first I needed answers. I would not make a decision before knowing everything that happened today.
With that thought in mind, I turned towards the doors and walked back into the smell of medicine and wolves. I already knew who I needed to see first and that was if she would even see me. As I approached her door, I watched as the handle turned downward and Dr. Baxter stepped out. His face was turned down towards his clip board and when he turned he walked right into me.
"Good Heavens, I apologize.....oh....it's you. What do you need Alpha." He said a bit angrily.
I swallowed a bit awkwardly, now that I knew he was her uncle it made things a little complicated. I didn't know whether or not she told him about us or why she was here, but within that thirty minutes he was with her they had bonded enough that he was no protective over her.
"Um...is she ok?" I asked a little hesitantly.
Dr. Baxter sighed with irritation. "Yes, no thanks to you. She's now sedated and will probably be out for a couple hours. So I would let her sleep in peace and go check on your fiancee." He grounded out before turning away and walking towards some nurses.
I glanced sadly at her door one more time before turning towards the opposite corridor. As I made my way down the hall all I could think about was the anger radiating off of Cassidy. As strong as she was being I saw the hurt in her eyes. I knew what I said hurt her and I know she feels like I'm siding with Elise. But I didn't know what else to do. I'm torn between siding with a childhood friend and my mate.
I looked up from my walking and saw somebody sitting outside Elise's door. As I got closer the unknown figure turned towards me and I sighed as my mother started approaching me.
"Oh Xavier, dear what happened? I am hearing so many conflicting stories and I just don't understand what is going on. Is Elise going to be ok?" She asked frantically.
"Mom, I can't talk to you now. But please come to my office this evening and we'll discuss everything ok?" I asked her.
"Ok dear, take care." She said giving me a kiss on the cheek.
As she walked away, I turned back to the door before me. I had to find out what happened. So it was now or never. I took a deep breath and grabbed the handle of the door.
"Here we go."
