CHAPTER TWO

1098 Words
All day, my mind was blank. “Nathaniel is asleep already, should I make coffee for you? John asked. “all right, John I answered distracted. “Is there a problem? Should I call your parents?” I shook my head. “There’s no need John. It probably won’t last.” “This is why I keep on telling you, we should have followed your parents to the United States. It’s better and more comfortable there.” I suddenly thought of what John said. Another country, Far away from the Philippines. There is a greater chance that I will never see him again or meet him. “here’s your coffee. Drink it before it gets cold.” “You right John, maybe this is the right time for us to leave the country for good.” John shrugged at what I said. “first thing in the morning, please read all the documents that we need for filling out the visa. I want it done as soon as possible. John’s forehead furrowed even more. “Are you in debt or maybe you’re in arrears? Why do you seem to be hiding from someone? He asked. “no, I want it done as soon as possible, and it’s for the best, especially for Nathan.” John nodded and excused us. I turned to Dan and held her hand nervously, John couldn’t know the real reason. If he finds out, he will tell my parents. Plans will be ruined. We lived without him for several years. And for the rest of our lives, we would not need his company either. “so, what’s your plan?” I looked at her. Honestly, I’m planning to take him away. Dan looked at me and said. Are you sure? You do know that he has connections. Eventually, he’ll find out, sooner or later. No one wanted to bear a child out of wedlock but I couldn’t just have it aborted or give him up for adoption. It’s a child a human being. He’s mine. I still remember the day I was about to tell him about my pregnancy. *flashback* Who are you? The girl asked. I pressed my lips together. Uhm, I’m looking for Nathan, is he here I asked her nervously. The girl looked at me from head to toe. Are you one of his flings? I remained quiet. If you are one of his girls, I’m his girlfriend, and it's fine if you wanna talk to him but please don’t tell me you’re pregnant because he’s going to give you girls the same answer and that is to have an abortion. She said then called Nathan. “Nathan! Someone is looking for you.” She yelled. I quietly stood there, waiting for him to get out. But he didn’t instead he yelled. If it’s a girl, tell her to get lost. Tears started to fall. “Miss, are you okay? The girl asked. I quickly nodded my head. “yes, I just wanted to say a few things regarding our school project.” I lied. Anyway, I’ll just meet him tomorrow at school. Before she could respond, I quickly left the place. I broke down in tears, as soon as I got home and caressed my belly. Your daddy, doesn’t want you he told us to get lost, how could he be so mean I cried brokely. I didn’t know what to do. I have never been as confused and helpless as I felt, How could I possibly tell my parent that I got pregnant and it was because of a one-night stand? They would kill me. *end of flashback* I have plans. I’m about to resign and then s**t happens. Let’s make it clear, Dan said Are you planning to migrate to another country and never come back? She asked and I nodded at her. Yes. That’s why I’m planning to resign as soon as possible and help John to fix all our papers. I said This is for the best. I wouldn’t want my son to know that his life was made because of my idiotic actions. I love my son. That’s enough reason for me to take him away. The afternoon came and we decided to visit a shopping center with my son. Momma, where are we doing here? My son asked innocently. I smiled at him. We are going to shop do you want anything? He smiled at me and looked at Auntie Dan. Auntie Dan, would you mind if I were to ask you to buy me a book? Dan laughed. What book do you want? They were both discussing what genre my son wanted to buy. I followed them quietly. When Nathaniel was done choosing his book we lined up for the cashier. We were patiently waiting when Nathaniel ran out of the bookstore. I immediately followed him and gave Dan the book. Nathaniel, where are you going to? I said but he continued to run. Where is he going? Baby, please stop running. You might get hurt! I hurriedly followed him inside a luxury boutique. I went inside and looked for my son. He was there, tugging the sleeve of a very tall man. I instantly picked up my son. Nathaniel, what you did was bad. Who told you to run? He looked at me quietly; maybe your son wanted a suit. An arrogant voice said. Common son if you wanted something from this store you should have asked mummy and not just run away I reprimanded my son completely ignoring the stranger. he simply pointed at the man who he was tugging the sleeves a while ago. I stood up. I’m sorry sir, my son might have mistaken you for someone he knows…] Then the man turned around to face us. Look, momma. We look-alike. Nathaniel innocently said. His calm but fierce-looking eye sent daggers to me. My knees became weak and naturally, my feet took a step back. It’s him again. I immediately carried my son and confidently said, no. You don’t look alike. When Dan found us in the parking lot she was asking a lot of questions. What happened? I thought before going home we were eating dinner. I shook my head. No. We have to leave this place now. She looked at me curiously, are you on drugs? I closed my eyes for a brief moment. No. Nathan is here, he saw Nathaniel. We have to go. Her eyes widened for a second and then she quickly started the car. When we got home, I gave Nathaniel to John.
