Chapter 1: My Sister Stole Everything.
The day I found out I was pregnant was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life.
Instead, it became the day my world fell apart.
My name is Ava Carter, and until that day, I thought I had everything a woman could want.
I was twenty-six years old.
I had a successful career as a marketing executive.
I was engaged to the man I loved.
And in exactly fourteen days, I was supposed to become Mrs. Ava Parker.
For three years, Ethan Parker had been my entire world.
He was handsome, intelligent, ambitious, and kind.
At least, that was what I thought.
The small white pregnancy test felt heavy in my handbag as I stepped out of the taxi.
I couldn’t stop smiling.
A few hours earlier, I had been sitting in my bathroom staring at two pink lines.
Two lines.
A baby.
Our baby.
I had cried tears of happiness.
Then I had immediately called Ethan.
Unfortunately, he was busy preparing for an important dinner meeting and couldn’t talk for long.
So I decided to surprise him.
I imagined the look on his face when I told him.
I imagined him lifting me into his arms.
I imagined us telling our families.
I imagined our future.
A beautiful house.
A happy marriage.
A little girl with his eyes.
Everything felt perfect.
As I entered the elegant restaurant, the scent of fresh flowers filled the air.
Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling.
Soft music played in the background.
The hostess smiled politely.
“Good evening, Miss Carter.”
I smiled back.
“I’m here to see Ethan Parker.”
The hostess nodded.
“Private room seven.”
I thanked her and walked down the hallway.
My heart was racing with excitement.
I couldn’t wait to see him.
I couldn’t wait to tell him he was going to be a father.
As I approached the private dining room, I heard laughter.
A woman’s laughter.
The sound was strangely familiar.
I slowed down.
Then I heard Ethan laugh too.
A strange feeling settled in my stomach.
The door wasn’t fully closed.
A narrow gap remained.
Without thinking, I looked inside.
And my entire world shattered.
The pregnancy test slipped from my fingers.
My breath caught in my throat.
My heart stopped beating.
Seated on Ethan’s lap was my younger sister.
Olivia Carter.
My own sister.
The same sister I had protected since childhood.
The same sister who had cried on my shoulder after every heartbreak.
The same sister who had stood beside me when Ethan proposed.
She was kissing him.
Not the innocent kiss of two people making a mistake.
Not the awkward kiss of a drunken accident.
It was passionate.
Comfortable.
Familiar.
Like two people who had been together for a very long time.
For a moment, my brain refused to process what I was seeing.
This couldn’t be real.
I had to be imagining it.
Then Olivia wrapped her arms around Ethan’s neck.
“When are you finally going to leave her?” she asked.
Leave her.
The words struck me like lightning.
Ethan sighed.
“Soon.”
Just one word.
Soon.
Three years together.
Three years of trust.
Three years of loyalty.
Reduced to a single word.
Olivia smiled.
“You should have chosen me from the beginning.”
Ethan laughed softly.
“I finally did.”
The room began spinning around me.
Suddenly every memory felt fake.
Every promise.
Every kiss.
Every “I love you.”
All lies.
I wanted to scream.
I wanted to cry.
I wanted to run away.
Instead, I stood there frozen.
Then my foot accidentally struck a large flower pot.
CRASH!
The sound echoed through the hallway.
Both of them turned immediately.
Their faces drained of color.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody breathed.
Then Olivia stood up.
Unlike Ethan, she wasn’t ashamed.
She wasn’t guilty.
She wasn’t even nervous.
Instead, she smiled.
A cruel smile.
A victorious smile.
The smile of someone who had finally won.
“Well,” she said calmly, crossing her arms. “I guess you know now.”
I stared at her in disbelief.
No apology.
No explanation.
Nothing.
Just arrogance.
Ethan finally stepped forward.
“Ava, I can explain—”
“Explain what?” I interrupted.
My voice sounded strangely calm.
Calmer than I felt.
“Explain how long you’ve been sleeping with my sister?”
Ethan lowered his eyes.
His silence answered everything.
My heart broke completely.
Then Olivia delivered the final blow.
“He loves me.”
I looked at her.
She smiled again.
“He never loved you the way he loves me.”
Something inside me snapped.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
Quietly.
Dangerously.
Because in that moment, I stopped being the woman they knew.
I looked at both of them.
The sister who betrayed me.
The man who destroyed me.
Then I smiled.
A cold smile.
A smile that made both of them uncomfortable.
Without saying another word, I turned around and walked away.
I didn’t stop until I reached my car.
The moment the door closed behind me, the tears finally came.
But before I could break down completely, my phone lit up.
1 New Voicemail
Unknown Number.
With trembling fingers, I pressed play.
A deep male voice filled the car.
“Miss Ava Carter… if you’re hearing this, your father, Richard Carter, is dead.”
My blood ran cold.
Then the voice continued.
“He left everything to you.”
I froze.
Everything?
That was impossible.
My father hadn’t spoken to me in years.
Then came the sentence that changed my life forever.
“Your sister knows who killed him.”
The voicemail ended.
Seconds later, a photograph appeared on my screen.
A picture of me standing outside the restaurant less than ten minutes ago.
Beneath it were four chilling words:
DON’T TRUST OLIVIA.
Then another message arrived.
THEY KNOW YOU’RE PREGNANT.
