Chapter 1
A loud explosion woke everyone in the Asilo. "Mom? What's happening?"
An 8-year-old little girl asks her parents while clutching her favorite toy. "Mommy?" she calls again but her parents are nowhere to be found. She jumped out of bed and made her way downstairs when she heard whispers and panic voices from their kitchen.
"It's happening Daniel, what should we do?" she heard her mom's voice, she sounds so upset. She doesn't like it when her mommy is upset, so she continues to come down the stairs.
Five, Four, Thre-
"Ryan, you need to take Gabby to the Ambergris. Find Doctor Salem, and give him this letter"
"What about you? You're not coming with us?"
Her parents did not answer, she hugged her toy tighter and finished the last two remaining steps.
"We can't leave them, Ryan, we could've done this a few years ago. If we finished the cure we will meet you there"
Why is mommy talking about a cure, is someone sick? And why is uncle Ryan in here?
"Mommy? Daddy"
Her dad is hugging her mom, uncle Ryan is sitting across the kitchen counter, and there's another man sitting down at the table.
"Gabby dear, come here" Her mom called her, her tiny legs makes a tapping sound in their kitchen, the silence is so loud that she could hear her own heartbeat.
Her dad picked her up and hugged her tightly before putting her down in a chair.
"Gabby, Uncle Ryan is here to take you on a vacation on an island. Grandmama and grandpapa is in there, they're waiting for you"
The little girl looks at her parents, wondering if she heard them right.
"How about you mom? dad? You're not coming with me?"
Her mom touched her cheeks. Her touch is cold, making the little girl shiver.
"Mommy I'm scared"
"Don't be my sweet child. You are the bravest daughter I ever have. You promised me that no matter what happens you need to get to that island"
She doesn't know why her parents wanted her to go on this vacation, or why her mom is fighting her tears back. She looks at Uncle Ryan and the other man that held no emotion - he looks scary.
"But mommy I don't want to go" Another loud explosion can be heard, making the little girl jumped into her mother's arms.
Tiny tendrils coming from their ceiling, the cupboards are shaking furiously and another explosion happens.
"You need to go, go pack some things for her Daniel" her dad run upstairs while Ryan and the other man went out to ready the car.
"Gabby listen to mommy. I want you to promise me that you follow Ryan no matter what. Go in the Ambergris and tell them that you are my daughter. Promise me"
She was about to cry but the determination in her mom's eyes gives her the courage to nod her head.
Gunshots and panic shouts can be heard outside their house.
"The gate has been breached. We need to leave" Uncle Ryan is waiting at the door.
Her dad rushed down the stairs with a bag full of her belongings, he wrapped a jacket around her and both her parents hug her tightly.
"We love you so so much" A loud painful cry made everyone stand there frozen.
Her mom recovered first, lifting her up and running outside to the car. Ryan and her dad are following behind.
"You have to run - save yourself, Gabriella" her mom looked at her.
"Mom no, I won't leave you here. I'm staying, please" Her Mom's brown eyes bore through her soul. There is nothing she can do that will change her mind.
She locked the seatbelt around her and kissed her forehead one last time. "I love you, my Gabby"
"Ryan, you know what to do" Ryan nods his head before starting the car and moving away.
Away from her home, her family, and her life.
If only she knows that it will be the last time she will see her parents. She wouldn't have left.
It was too late when she realized what really is happening. Now she needs to keep her promise to her parents, she has to go to Ambergris.
