Third Person POV
“Did they bite you?” Mikayla asks, checking Midnight’s body. “They’re poisonous.”
“No they didn’t touch me,” Midnight says.
“Mom,” Freddie says, dropping to his knees.
He is dripping with sweat and his bite marks are black as are his veins. Everyone had been focused on the hounds, no one saw Freddie’s distressed state.
“Freddie!” Midnight screams.
Elijah and Greyson catch Freddie’s falling body and lay him on the ground. Mikayla and Midnight rush to his side, as do the aunts.
“We have to extract the poison,” Mikayla says.
Midnight holds her hand over his more severe wound and focuses on pulling the poison out of his veins.
“It’s not working,” She says.
“You can’t do it alone and he hasn’t found his mate,” Jane says.
“He has!” Rebecca yells pushing herself in between all of Freddie’s relatives. She kneels down to Freddie’s side and places one hand over his wound and one over his heart. She focuses on Freddie’s heart and blood and uses her magic to pulse through her and push out the foreign substance. His wounds begin bleeding more instead of healing as they usually would. His blood is coming out black with a green and purple color to it and smells like death.
“I need something else. He needs blood of his blood,” Rebecca says.
“Shawn and Andrei,” Sukie says.
Midnight blinks out of sight and blinks back with her mates by her side.
“What happened?” Both men ask.
“Poisoned by hellhounds,” Mikayla says. “Palms up.”
Midnight, Shawn, and Andrei open their palms.
“Eli and Greyson you too,” Mikayla says. “Everyone place your right hand above Freddie. Palm up.”
“Wait until I push all the poison out,” Rebecca says.
Mikayla pulls a white gold dagger from her arm guard and once Freddie’s blood begins coming out clean Rebecca tells Mikayla to cut each palm in one circular motion beginning and ending with Midnight. Their blood falls onto Freddie and each drop that touches him finds its way to one of his wounds. As everyone heals Freddie’s wounds close. Rebecca lifts her hands off her mate and falls back against the other two.
“Let’s get him to recovery,” Rebecca says.
Midnight uses her powers to lift Freddie’s body and begin walking inside.
“Elijah, have the warriors secured the borders?” Rebecca asks.
“Yes, Luna.” Elijah says. “The wounded are being taken to the pack hospital and the dead are being tended to.”
“Thank you,” Rebecca says, following Midnight.
Amy comes to the Luna’s side as soon as she sees her.
“I want a full report on my desk when I get to my office,” Rebecca says.
“Yes, Luna,” Amy says.
Rebecca takes Greyson's arm and leans on him for support. Healing Freddie took a lot out of her but she won’t rest until her mate is awake.
“My Queen, if you would be so kind as to tend to the more severely wounded I’d like to stay with my mate. I know he’s your son but I can’t leave his side. I won’t survive it again. But my pack-” Rebecca says. She hasn’t taken her eyes off Freddie since he collapsed and she didn’t plan on it. She wasn’t there when Greg needed her but she wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice. Maybe if she had been there she could have saved him…
“Of course, Luna,” Midnight smiles. “I can feel his wolf getting stronger. He will wake up soon.”
“Thank you, My Queen,” Rebecca says.
“Please stop. You will not address me as such. You are one of my children now. Call me Midnight, Dini, mom. Whichever you’re most comfortable, as long as it's not by title,” Midnight says. She leaves the room and begins healing the warriors.
After everything settles Midnight goes outside to where her sons are looking up at the sky.
“She hasn’t come down yet,” Connor says.
“The aunts needed her help with a demonic barrier,” Boston says.
Mikayla’s light can be seen in the clouds shining down to the ground. The aunts are on the backs of wolves chanting protection spells being sealed by the light. They finish at exactly midnight just as Freddie’s eyes shot open.
He sees Rebecca sitting on the edge of his bed and pulls her to his side assessing his surroundings.
“It’s Ok.” “It’s just us.” Elijah and Greyson say.
Freddie calms down and his heart rate normalizes. After being examined by the pack doctor Freddie is given a clean bill of health but will be staying overnight for observation.
“I’m going to stay. You two can use my room if you want. If not Amy set you each up with a room,” Rebecca says.
“We’re staying,” Elijah and Greyson say together.
“Oh god. Don’t start the twin talk,” Midnight says.
“Triplet talk,” all three of them say.
“Stop!” Midnight commanded.
“Mom. It’s ok to go home. I’m fine,” Freddie says.
“Are you sure?” Midnight asks.
“Yes. Please go home. You can come back for our Alpha ceremony,” Freddie says.
“Ok. I’ll let everyone know we’re leaving,” Midnight says. “But I’m reassigning that battalion to Blood Moon.”
“Some of them are mated,” Elijah says.
“So they’ll get to choose. Either way I will have a full battalion here whether you like it or not. Don’t forget I’m the f*****g Queen,” Midnight says.
“I’d be happy for them to stay. We need the warriors,” Rebecca says.
After everyone is gone Rebecca lays on the bed curled up against Freddie’s side. She asks Amy to bring the report to her and they begin going over everything. Injuries and casualties. Funerals. Structural damage. They’d game plan in the morning. For now Rebecca just wanted to lay in her mates arms and listen to his heart beat. Once she was asleep Freddie, Greyson, and Elijah drifted off into a much needed sleep.
